Being curious, I downloaded the Magiranger movie, and the first few eps of Kamen Rider. Magiranger seems aimed at a somewhat younger audience and I get teh feeling I'm missing a lot by seeing Decade first, but they're both pretty good. Given that my main impression of the genre comes from the Danzaiver character in Evil Zone, and the only previous sentai-style shows I actually watched are Garo (which was awesome) the anime Karas (which at least had awesome fight choreography and appealed to my transofrmer love with the any-morph suits) and a few eps of s1 and 2 MMPR, the latter having given somewhat less that the best sort of impression, can anyone give reccomendations for mare good stuff to check out? I've seen a nifty toy review for the DX Samurai Gattai Shinken-Oh, but haven't looked up the show it comes from yet.

XTC "Dear God"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk41Gbjljfo
Dear god, hope you get the letter and...
I pray you can make it better down here
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
But all the people that you made in your image
See them starving on their feet
'Cause they don't get enough to eat from god
I can't believe in you
Dear god, sorry to disturb you but...
I feel that I should be heard loud and clear
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
And all the people that you made in your image
See them fighting in the street
'Cause they can't make opinions meet about god
I can't believe in you
Did you make disease and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!
Dear god don't know if you noticed but...
Your name is on a lot of quotes in this book
And us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look
And all the people that you made in your image
still believing that junk is true
Well I know it ain't, and so do you
Dear god
I can't believe in
I don't believe
I won't believe in heaven or hell
No saints, no sinners, no devil as well
No pearly gates, no thorny crown
You're always letting us humans down
The wars you bring, the babes you drown
Those lost at sea and never found
And it's the same the whole world 'round
The hurt I see helps to compound
That father, son and holy ghost
Is just somebody's unholy hoax
And if you're up there you'll perceive
That my heart's here upon my sleeve
If there's one thing I don't believe in
It's you
Dear god
Power: negates most of a diety's powers while in Doug's AoE. Of course if the diety hasn't been neutralized by the time the song's done, then Doug's probably in even bigger trouble than before, cause now the diety is _pissed_.

Heart "If Looks Could Kill"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZQPGBrAMvA
Caught you in the act, can't put up with that
Messing where you shouldn't be
I wanna hear you say you're sorry
Cause nobody takes advantage of me
You're messin' with my heart, shooting in the dark
And pulling the wool over my eyes
Baby don't push me further
It's gonna hurt you if it happens twice
If looks could kill
You'd be lying on the floor
You'd be begging me please, please
Baby don't hurt me no more
If looks could kill
You'd be reeling from the pain
And you'd never lie again
If looks could kill
You're living on the edge, hanging by a thread
I'm watching every move you make
You don't want to see my anger
So don't you make another mistake
Love is on the line, I ain't about to be kind
That's a promise and a threat
If I was you I'd really cool it
Or risk a night you'll never forget
If looks could kill
You'd be lying on the floor
You'd be begging me please, please
Darlin' don't hurt me no more
If looks could kill
You'd be reeling from the pain
And you'd never lie again
If looks could kill
I was a fool to believe in you
A sucker for every line
I'm a little less blind
Than I was before
I can see right through your design
If looks could kill
You'd be lying on the floor
You'd be begging me please, please
Baby don't hurt me no more
If looks could kill
You'd be reeling from the pain
And you'd never lie again
If looks could kill
You'd be lying on the floor
You'd be begging me please, please
Baby don't hurt me no more
If looks could kill
You'd be reeling from the pain
And you'd never lie again
If looks could kill
If looks could kill

1x Westland Sea King (waved)
The SS Fram is one of the most interesting vessels in Fenspace and a signs that there is astronomical and planetary research done by others than the Trekkies, Artemis or the Soviets, any one of the few vessels operating under 'danelaw.
Owned by the Tycho Brahe Institute for Interstellar Research, a Scandinavian Institute backed by the governments of Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark and founded in 2009, the SS Fram is a purpose build hull largely based on the German icebreaker research vessel RV Polarstern, adapted to a space environment, but very well capable of operating on sea, especially in polar regions.
She is well equipped with a variety of sensors and research compartments, especially a pair of 2.5 meter reflector telescopes and a phased radar array designed for planetary surveys.
However only the barest minimum of Handwavium was utilized by the construction, mostly in the energy and propulsion systems as well as in the life support systems. However some Handwavium came into contact with the ships modern computer system during the 'waving of the life support, leading to the development of the AI Fridfjof Nansen, based on the builder of the original Fram.
During the first research mission to Jupiter and the discovery of non-Earth life in the sub-Europa ocean (simple microbiotic life) she was attacked by a small band Twilik pirates, but was able to defend against them, resulting in the crew being termed 'Space Vikings' and honorably adopted by the Puplers.
In the wake of the attack they got a gift of several Battle steel viking weapons from Hephaestus.
Other notable missions lead to Titan, Triton and the Oort Cloud before leaving the Solar System to visit Wolf 359 in late 2016.
Known Vehicle Quirks:
'Hall of the Mountain King': The ship works best if the PA systems plays music from Scandinavian countries of all kinds. However all systems, whether waved or not, actually decrease in effectiveness if ABBA is played.
'Lo, There do I see my father': If the ship is under attack all crew members or scientists of Scandinavian descent become, well, effectively Vikings. It is said that the Chief Mechanist, Thor Leifson (build like Thor out of the comics) managed to defeat a power armored Twilik during the attack near Europa.
'This is not cold...': The ship is very effective in any surface cryogenic environment it may be exposed to, leading to more discoveries then normally expected.

[RFC] Drivetypes, and trying to put vague numbers at things. |

Okay, this has been bugging me for quite a while. I think I could quite literally say years. Early on, there came about two different vague types of drives; "speed" drives which are reactionless, don't use fuel for the most part, but have some hardish upper limit on velocity, and "reaction" drives which work more like rockets we know, but with the variables fiddled - much much higher specific impulse and usually higher thrust too. But the question that's lingered is, well, what's the point of reaction drives other than flavor?
So here's a thought - what if speed drives are more limited in acceleration? How limited determines some flavor of things; travel times between planets and so on. Say on both drives that the artificial gravity can counteract 1G, and speed drives are limited to a maximum of 20x their maximum speed in acceleration; so something that maxes out at 0.1C can accelerate at 2G and the occupants only feel 1G, or something that can do 0.2C can max out at 4G, of which the occupants feel 3. Which wouldn't be too comfortable obviously. Some very rough math suggests that that would feel a lot more frontier-ey with things being days apart... for an alternative, maybe 100x their maximum speed in acceleration and artificial gravity cuts felt acceleration to 1/10th. So something maxing at 0.1C can do 10G and occupants feel 1G, something maxing 0.2C can do 10G and occupants feel 2G, etc.
Basic principle though is that reaction drives tend to get used by racers, speed freaks, and combat things because the (uncomfortable, punishing, costly-in-fuel) acceleration is useful, whereas most transportation doesn't accelerate as hard and doesn't need to. Further principle is that if things can accelerate too hard, humans aren't going to be able to react fast enough to be useful pilots, and that takes fun out of things. IMO, 10s of Gs would be pretty tough in realistic sense but probably fine, but changing directions over 100Gs would probably be completely impossible for humans to track.
Thoughts? Someone else willing to do at least brief math of transit times? It was suggested on IRC that one guideline might be Earth-Mars in something car-like (0.1C-ish) in one (albeit long) sitting; I leave agreeing with that or not up to the commentors.

Actually, there's probably been more than a dozen bunny threads already, but I can't be arsed to make an accurate count and the title was funny. What makes it worse is the all I have to start off with is another title, for The Beach Episode:
Laditude & Lassitude (possibly without the mispelling, to make the pun a little less of a hammer to the face)
(throws some aphrodesiacs to the bunnies so as to not be starting a new thread on such a dud)
Okay, here's a bouncy little pup! In Ep1, Nanoha imagines her barrier jacket as a typical mahou shojou affair, because 'that's what's normal for these situations' but what if her thoughts went down a slightly different path, say, Magiranger or Ultraman? Yuuno: (sweatdrops) "Can a Barrier jacket even BE that large?" How will Fate fare against a Giant of Pink Light? I'm not classing this as a real crossover because it would be the influence of fiction in her own world, not combining casts or technologies or whatever. Like the various people who build various clunky, slow moving, but by Tesla they're walker machines mecha in their garage IRL.
