Homage to the old Robin Hood movies. The detail in the arrow's flex in her last shot is very nice.

BARE NECESSITIES by Louis Armstrong

Look for the bare necessities
Simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Mother Nature's recipes
Make the bare necessities of life
Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the trees
To make some honey just for me
You look under the rocks and plants
Take a glance at the fancy ants
And, maybe try a few
The bare necessities of life will come to you
Look for the bare necessities
Simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife, oh
I mean the bare necessities
Bear even rests at ease
Have the bare necessities of life
Just relax, in my backyard
And if you act like that bee acts
You're working too hard
Don't fill your time just lookin' around
For something you want that can't be found
You'll find out you can live without
Go along not even thinkin' about it
Tell you something true
The bare necessities of life will come to you
Will come to you
Will come to you
WIll come to you
Oh, Yeah

Gives Doug the "bare necessities" for survival: food, water, air, if needed, etc. He wouldn't be living in luxury but he'd survive.
Edit -- Missed a word in the lyrics.

  The Woman in Black
Posted by: Ebony - 02-21-2012, 09:48 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

So, I saw this yesterday instead of "The Secret World of Arriety" (thinking I would see that with my girlfriend, who unbenknownst to me, saw it on Saturday). What they don't tell you on the promos is that it's a Hammer Film. You know, the folks that made Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee famous. And it's a pretty good ghost story, with some really nice jumps put in. I recommend it to anyone who likes horror, without a lot of gore (one scene with blood and a bunch of ghost children with the effects of their death on them in a brief scene, and not much else).

  Vacation notes

On the 3nd day on vacation today. Arrived in Los Angeles on Sunday. I missed the sunny blue sky, even with the smog! Didn't miss the traffic though. Smile
Spent a pleasant first day with my teenaged nieces. Heaven help the boys they will be dating eventually. My brother already has the shotgun out. A brand new experience for me..shopping with the girls in a mega mall. Highly amusing in fact.

To get a Vita or not
Posted by: Rod.H - 02-21-2012, 06:42 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (14)

Right with the coming of the PS Vita (and Sony's wish to finally kill UMD) I have decided to list all the games on UMD that I've got for people to look at and no doubt say it sucked, or is better on x or is available on the EU/US/JP PSN. This list is for that and may just indicate what games I thought were the best fit for the PSP.

  • Ace Combat X
  • Ace Combat Joint Assault
  • Crazy Taxi
  • EA Replay - Original Syndicate
  • Gran Turismo
  • Final Fantasy
  • Final Fantasy 2
  • Final Fantasy 4
  • Final Fantasy 7:Crisis Core
  • Justice League Heroes
  • Lumines 1 & 2
  • Lunar
  • Midway Arcade Treasures:EP
  • NFS:Undercover
  • Ridge Racer 1 & 2
  • Sakura Taisen/Wars 1 & 2
  • SNK Arcade Classics
  • SOCOM FTB 1 & 2
  • Soulcalibur
  • Star Ocean 1 & 2
  • Star Trek: Tactical Assault - A game I find hard
  • Star Wars Battlefront 2
  • Star Wars Battlefront renegade squadron
  • Star Wars:force unleashed
  • Street Fighter alpha 3
  • Tekken DR
  • Tenchu
  • Test Drive Unlimited
  • Valkyrie Profile Lenneth

Hrmm, 33 games on UMD. I've got more games on my Steam profile (202) then that. I've probably also got more X360 games and I know I've got more manga tpb as Oh! My Goddess is up to #40. So is there any point in me staying, when most of my gaming's on or available on another system? I'd prefer to stay, and I think I should probably start looking for some 'new in box' PSPs so can have some spares for when my main one dies. Which I doubt would happen for some time considering I use my 360 & PCs more.

  FenWiki: new tool

Since HRogge noticed inconsistencies on a couple of pages, and identified them in a way that didn't match the way I identified pages with inconsistencies... I've created a new tag to put at the top of pages that have problems.

Add {{Cleanup}} to the very top of a page, and not only will http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... te:Cleanup]a nice, big, somewhat-boring notice be added to the page, it will also be listed http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... of_cleanup]in a centralized location. It would be polite to say why you added the Cleanup tag to a page, too.

(The boring nature of the notice is intentional, by the way - that encourages people to do something to warrant removing it.)

Note that I didn't actually fix the problems, I just highlighted them...

  And my annoyance is back...

It's been almost a year since it last appeared, but on Friday my intermittent Net connection failure problem came back.  And as of last night, it dropped and nothing that I and the telephone tech support folks at Comcast can do is able to fix it; it's been dead for about 9 hours as of the moment I type this.  I've got a tech coming out to the house tomorrow night, and hopefully he can fix it.  Until then, though, no COH and no appearances here outside of work hours.

  Someone check my logic?
Posted by: classicdrogn - 02-21-2012, 08:02 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (24)

Assumptions:

1. Magic use is some kind of energy or force (in the scientific sense) manipulation ability, through means as yet unexplained

2. Expressing magic in humans requires certain genetic traits, and takes the forms of various rare talents as well as casting

3. While some talents may be located or modified by other sites, the primary cluster of magic genes is in that part of the X chromosome that is missing on the Y

Conclusions:

A. Women are more likely to have some kind of magic talent, since they have two X chromosomes

B. Men who do have magic, are more likely to have strong magic because they don't have a second X to interfere

C. Women are more likely to have multiple talents, because they have an X from each parent

Question:

Is an all-traits-positive XX combination significantly better than the same combination in XY? I don't know enough genetics to be sure, but it seems like having the same information twice over shouldn't make a difference, or not much of one.

Thoughts?

  The Secret World of Arrietty
Posted by: robkelk - 02-21-2012, 06:37 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (6)

So, I saw The Secret World of Arrietty this evening... Good movie, definitely a family film (not a kids' movie, but one they'll enjoy too), and a decent dub (the actress they cast for Arrietty was spot-on). Not wanting to wait for Disney's home-video release (and not wanting to help fund Disney's part in backing SOPA), I'll be ordering a copy from CDJapan later this week.

I believe blackaeronaut called this one "bittersweet" - he's right, but given what happens in the story, that's the only reasonable way for it to end. They set up a particular ending, and they have the courage to see it through to that ending - no rabbits out of hats here.

The flying scene is not quite an hour into the movie. It is Studio Ghibli, after all.

Lovely music, composed by http://www.cecile-corbel.com/en/home.html - I'll be getting the soundtrack from CDJapan as well, and looking in the local record stores for her other albums.

I'm happy...
