  [RFC][Technology] Boom Boxes
Posted by: Black Aeronaut - 04-29-2011, 08:20 PM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (12)

Ben has his Blue Hair Moments.  Nowhere is this more evident than when he created the Sonically Driven Matter Displacement Device, or, more colloquially, the Boom Box.
It started out innocently enough.  Ben was attempting to create a device that would turn any solid surface into a high definition surround sound speaker.  The prototype would work, up until the first 'big sound' (usually an explosion or a particularly loud chord), then the surface would be destroyed in a spectacular (and, incredibly enough, fiery) explosion.
The device itself is resilient.  It can be reused numerous times without ill-effects.
Ben's preferred soundbite: a huge, deep, and distorted voice screaming, "Kick out the JAY-UUUUUUUYYYMMMS, Mother-f*****s!" followed by the infamous Chord From Hell.

The biggest concern right now is search and rescue. That and restoring power.

Penguin Books starts online Genre Fiction community
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 04-28-2011, 12:51 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (8)

They call it http://bookcountry.com/]Book Country, and it seems to be an online writers' workshop/community/distribution channel intended to nurture starting genre writers until they get good enough to get noticed by a publishing house... like Penguin.

Well I'm off to see the shuttle launch
Posted by: CattyNebulart - 04-27-2011, 03:46 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (2)

As the topic says I am about to leave to see one of the last shuttle launches ever (If not the last one, spare parts problems and all of that). Will anybody else be there?

"Vote now for the best sci-fi film never made"
Posted by: robkelk - 04-27-2011, 03:00 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (13)

They're having a reader poll over on The Register for "the best sci-fi film never made". Looking at http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/04/27 ... ovie_poll/]the list of 50 candidates, I'm thinking there are a lot of choices that are good books but would make terrible movies...

(And, having just voted, I see the current leader has more votes than the next five titles put together. No big surprise - it would make a good movie now that the state of CG is up to the task.)

In an effort to not derail the warriors thread in the DW section, I'm posting further discussion about the cake being anything here.

...in particular Charlus Potter, who may be Harry Potter's grandfather or great grandfather, because I wanted to find the source for his existence.  I found it -- material by Rowling external to the books -- but I also found that someone has been having fun with http://www.geni.com/people/Charlus-Pott ... 9311028214]a geneology site.

  Shadowwalker
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 04-26-2011, 11:24 PM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (2)

Hey Bob? Been lurking in Mark's topic over in the DW general forum. When he posted the Shadowwalker pics, I logged into CoH to tinker with the costume creator and see if I could come up with another version of Shadowwalker. IIRC I tried to do this a few years ago, but neither the costume pieces or the powers available would match the concept.

Well now we have Sonics. And if you made her a defender, you could have Sonics/Sonics. So that part is covered.

But I was surprised when I went carefully though the options and noticed one I had TOTALLY MISSED. And I'm pretty sure it's relatively new. It's an Eye Option (Detail 1) called "Sonic Vision".

Holy crap!

(YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN) IT.... COULD... WORK!!!!! (/YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN)

Ahem...

Anyway - here's a screenshot or two.
