NVS meaning Networked Video Storage/Server
I remember reading of a system that you'd transfer all your dvd's onto and access the contents of over a network. I think it was even Sony that was pushing a model of it.
The largest 3.5" "home desktop" drive I've seen is 3 TB and they're in the AU $270-$370 range atm. 2.5" 1 TB drives are currently AU $180 for standard SATA-2 and $370 for server grade SATA-3. I've also seen a 5.25" drive enclosure that lets you use four 2.5" drives off one sata connection, it comes in two versions; one with hot-swapable raid the other plain.
I've contemplated transferring DVDs to a file but I've only got 2 TB of NAS storage mostly being used for iTunes backup and offloading downloaded files to a central location.
As for plugging a media interpreter to my telly to watch 'puter friendly video, aside from some iTunes stuff, I don't need to do that as my telly & Blu-ray player can do that for themselves. So the only such device I'd be considering plugging into the TV would be the Apple TV, and then it would only be the first gen one with it's built in storage.

3D modeling resources thread |

Since it's been discussed in the DW V, Fenspace, and (I think) The Legendary forums, I thought a centralized thread for listing all the useful 3D-modeling resources we've found would be apropos. DAZ/Poser to start with, since that's what at least three of us use, but feel free to talk about other modeling software and models, too.
First off... The "Galadriel" dress, which I'm using in the image of Serenity I in Fenspace and Mark appears to have used in an earlier version of the Belldandy image in DW V. This is becoming one of my "go to" outfits for females (along with Courageous), simply because it's so customizable... I've had reason to make a list of the texture sets I've been able to find for it, and I thought I'd share.
Basic outfit:

So I have this new shiny system installed right? Well there is a small problem when running CoH. The Client Hiccups whenever an Aoe is dropped on a spawn like say when I use foot stomp in a large cluster of council, the client will lock up for like 1 or 2 tenths of a second -every- time. It occurs just as the the damage animation/damage numbers appear. Its not game breaking but it is very annoying.
verified game files. made sure graphics driver is up to date. Fiddled with ultra mode settings. ran at lower settings, hell even tried on minimum graphics settings but haven't had any luck. Everything else in the game works just fine, I can run around and look around without issues. Single target attacks don't seem to cause this problem so I'm at a loss of what to do if anything.

[RFC] Al's Wait & Eat |

Al's Wait & Eat
Al's is a curious establishment. His target customer base is Transferred Consciousnesses like Wave Convoy, and other Infomorphs with a highly developed awareness of human senses. While he does have a normal eat-in seating area (why turn away business?) what inspired him to open his diner was the accidental creation of his Culinary Scanner: a device that takes whatever foodstuff is put into it and creates a holoprogram that mimics it perfectly, down to its relationship with time and environment. This program can be paused (it always arrives fresh and hot, and leftovers keep forever) and adjusted to match the customer's temporal awareness, but it refuses to run from the same point in time more than once.
As befits his position as leader of his local Slow Food Convivium (read: Chapter), Al refuses to sell the same meal twice or make a stockpile of holo-dishes: every meal is made to order and near as possible from scratch. This means that service is always excruciatingly slow from an Infomorph's perspective, but also that the food is always fresh, delicious, and subtly different from the last time you had it.
Staff Quirks:
Dedicated Roleplayer: The only people to see Al in person on a regular basis are the other members of his Convivium. He otherwise lives in Cyberspace where his avatar is a One Binome. He spends so little time interacting with people offline that rumour has it he's an Infomorph himself. He isn't, but he's so thoroughly wired that a biomod will probably Transfer him into a Binome chassis.
Dumb Waiter: Al is the only intelligent member of the staff: all other staff (which look like One and Zero Binomes) are cleverly designed and highly complex, but have a rigid if-then-else decision tree. If business is slow and one of his regulars comes in, then Al might seize control of a waiter-bot to take care of them "personally".

I'm going to throw a couple of links in here for my roommate's vehicle albums. I refer to him as MonkeyFist, but most people know him as HandofBobb.
Fleet
FVCS
He does vehicles and ships. He's one of those guys you if you give them four legos he'll give you a freaking sphere. Whereas you're lucky if I can give you back a stick. Some of his stuff is old, but it gives some ideas.
