  [RFC] Sailor Senshi: The A-Team
Posted by: Black Aeronaut - 10-08-2010, 05:45 AM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (16)

Thoughts about Sailor Atalante's elite squad.
The name, A-Team, was a joke somebody cracked when they were first putting the team together because it was well established at the time that the leader of this team would be the newly established Sailor Atalante (A-Team = Team Atalante).  Of course, things being the way they are in Fenspace, the name stuck.
A-Team is comprised of the best skilled or gifted of the Senshi's ranks.  Those that have biomods are classified as Aces.  Others could have easily been OF-6 field operatives.
I don't have much on the others as of yet, but I now have the framework of a backstory for Sailor Atalante.
Mary was orphaned at the age of seventeen along with her twelve year old sister.  Rather than be seperated by the State, she ran.  After a chance run-in with some fen, she procured some wave for herself, and handwaved the car her parents left behind.  Of course, she wasn't fully up to speed about the needed safety requirements, but she got off lucky.  Her little sister, being very fond of the Disney animation, The Little Mermaid, had been watching the film while helping her sister wave the car.  It had the effect of granting them both mermaid-like traits.  They are both fully amphibious and possess very fine scales in their skin (they're so fine that you think they're wearing glitter until you look at them -very- closely).  They can also withstand extreme cold and have retractable webbing on their hands and feet.  They can spend as much time on dry land as they like, but they'll start to miss being out of the water after a week or so.
More to come on the others later.  Gotta run.

http://www.australiangeographic.com.au/ ... vealed.htm

Quote:DIGITALLY REMASTERED VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS of the three-hour 1969 moonwalk have been revealed for the first time to a public audience. They include a clearer picture of Neil Armstrong's descent down the stairs of the lunar module, which was taken from the Parkes Radio Observatory and the Honeysuckle Creek tracking station outside Canberra on 21 July 1969 (Australian time).

The long-forgotten video footage was uncovered during a decade-long search for the original recordings of the moonwalk, and involved lengthy detective work and clandestine meetings, says astronomer and telescope operator John Sarkissian from the CSIRO at Parkes, who headed up the search. "We found lots of videos and things all over the place and we compiled them into a single seamless video of the whole moonwalk", John told Australian Geographic.

This was then restored to clean up the degradation of the videos experienced over the past 40 years, he adds. Though NASA released some clips last year, the full video has only been seen by a few veteran astronauts, including Buzz Aldrin.

The digitally enhanced footage includes Neil Armstrong's first step on the Moon's surface, Buzz Aldrin's decent of the lunar module ladder, the plaque reading and the raising of the US flag. The restoration took months of painstaking work as the videos had to be cleaned frame-by-frame.

Read the full story about the discovery and restoration of the footage here. The footage was shown tonight at the Australian Geographic Society Awards dinner in Sydney. Dr Buzz Aldrin was the guest of honour and received the the AG Society Honorary Lifetime of Adventure award at the event.

It's still staggering to watch. Those are people. On that big white thing in the sky. You can even see Buzz's face for a moment.

New figure watch (and assembly request)
Posted by: robkelk - 10-07-2010, 02:11 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

I stopped by the local anime store today - they (finally!) got You're Under Arrest: Full Throttle in for me - and what do I see on the new figures shelf but http://www.otakuhq.com/pvc/PVC2262.php]this lovely 1/7 scale spoiler for Nanoha StrikerS... so of course I had to buy it. (Hey, she's a pretty girl who's fully dressed - that should be encouraged.)

Did anybody else get one of these? If yes, how do you attach the attack to the hand?

Hit That by The Offspring
The winds of fortune
Don't blow the same
She had to get out
And make a change
She had a kid now
But much too young
That baby daddy's out having fun

He's saying
I'm on a roll
With all the girls I know
His baby momma
She ain't so slow
He's saying
I'm on a roll
With all the girls I know
I know you want to hit that
I know you want to hit that, hit that
All the world is gettin' with, I say
Consequences are a lot, but hey
That's the way
That's the way things go
Hey, hey, hey

What was a family
Is now a shell
We're raising kids now
Who raise themselves
Sex is a weapon
It's like a drug
It gets him right into that grave that he just dug

She's saying
I'm on the run
I'm chasing guys for fun
Her baby daddy
It ain't his only one
She's saying
I'm on the run
I'm chasing guys for fun
I know you want to hit that
I know you want to hit that, hit that
Everybody's gettin' with, I say
Consequences are a lot, but hey
That's the way
That's the way things go
Hey, hey, hey

Well it winds up
Broken up
Really such a shame
But why not
Take a chance
Everything's a game
And it don't stop
Hooking up
Nothing's gonna change
The more he's trying
The more he's buying

He says
I'm on a roll
With all the girls I know
His baby momma
Don't need to know
He's saying
I'm on a roll
With all the girls I know
I know you want to hit that
I know you want to hit that, hit that
All the world is gettin' with, I say
Consequences are a lot, but hey
That's the way
That's the way things go
The power would be to drive a target-group crazy with a sudden Ponfar-like surge of sexual desire.  And you cannot tell me that Doug wouldn't have fun inflicting this on some mooks that deserve it. (^_^)
