Redhen has been updating his Potterverse essays again, which make interesting reading. I don't agree with all his conclusions, but he's put a lot more thought into the Potter worldbuilding than all but the best fanfic authors - potentially useful, I suspect, for anyone writing a fic.
Personally, I do like his theories about Horcruxes and Snape, but even when you disagree, coming up with a good counterargument to a well argued essay can firm up your own worldbuilding in any fandom. And, for the handful of people interested. I've updated my own Buffy fic, now including the swearing of mighty oaths, demons galore, and a long-awaited death - Si monumentum requiris, circumspice. There's only a short coda remaining before that story is complete, and I can think about the posssibility of a sequel.
And it continues to rock most delightfully.
Oh, and Cordy: Overconfidence much?-- "I give you the beautiful... the talented... the tirelessly atomic-powered... R! DOROTHY! WAYNERIGHT! -- Sucrose Octanitrate. Proof positive that with sufficient motivation, you can make anything explode.
Oh boy... I love how she's so manic cheerful when her skin's rotting off. Must be that famed Hellmouth-inspired mental defense.
Interesting story thus far though.
Cordy: Overconfidence much?
It''s better to be proud than to be cowed: the life expectancy is shorter, but the quality is higher. The only rational choice in Cordelia's position is to surrender, as the Delapores did - and her fate would be much the same. Fighting on offers no hope of victory, only the certainty of a grisly death, a death which would not end her doomed struggle (by authorial fiat), so she should just give up and bow down before the dark. She won't, of course, because she will not accept that grim truth. She has too much self-confidence to give up, even though fighting on is hubris. Eventually, though, she might grow stronger, strong enough to knowingly fight for a doomed cause, but that strength will be hard-earned. What it's like to do that - fighting on, when all hope is lost - what it takes, and what it costs, is one of the things the story is about, below the surface gloss. Tjalorak, I'm an optimist. I'm confident that most of us, in Cordelia's situation, would do exactly the same, and some would do better. We'd just take longer to recover afterwards, which is where her hellmouth-spawned mental defences come in. For you and me, it'd be a few months before the experience was just a bad memory; Cordelia only needed a few minutes.

Old Soldiers Never Die has also been updated, which I find at least as good as either of his fics Bob mentioned. Also, Old Crow completed a couple of his stories recently - they tend to go a little heavy on the sappy shipping, but have solid plot work as well.
