But the bulk of these tales take place beginning in 1954, when humanity unlocked the secrets of Kaiju-kind's favorite food and thus awakened them from their long slumber, and going only a little beyond our synchronized present day, to places like the Korean De-Industrial Zone and the various post-American nations.
