Back home is in dire need of a prereader (at least the first few chapter are, other than that I'm still reserving judgement) plenty of typos that make it past the spellchecker but no-one else.
E: "Did they... did they just endorse the combination of the JSDF and US Army by showing them as two lesbian lolicons moving in together and holding hands and talking about how 'intimate' they were?"

Having read it now, I'd have to agree.
Given how many OCs/SIs feature in my fanfiction, I probably shouldn't ahve been so judgemental.

An excellent place to find HP fics
07-23-2006, 10:13 PM
The Dark Lord Potter fora have them sorted into rough categories (including "NC-17") and uses the "rate this thread" user star rating system to theoretically measure percieved quality - and since I can see the full range of stars on the top page of The Alternates (the one I happen to be looking at) when most have replies in the double didigts, it seems likely that it's not just a mutual admiration society, and the ratings may really give a useful reading. There's also a "discards" area for fics that don't gain sufficient positives, but it's almost empty - one Kinsfire fic and one that the description lists as Harry/Petunia of all things. I din't dare chance reading it for fear it would flouridate my precious bodily fluids... but it's in the discards after all.

For those of you looking for a rather original Ranma crossover, this certainly qualifies.-- This message brought to you by Ely Lilly, makers of SeraFem: Happy Pills for PMS.

Okay, that hasn't been done before. *blink* Wow. It really hasn't.
Strong suspicion as to the identity of the mysterious benefactor has me mentally labeling this fic as 'When Ranma met Angus'.

It's not a mysterious benefactor, Nabiki names hime near the end.__________________

Duct Tape ^^ The author is clever to not mention anything of the benefactor's usual trademark to keep the reader guessing till the end

What if Harry Potter was somewhat more sarcastic than in canon? I'm fairly certain that you don't want to know.-- This message brought to you by Ely Lilly, makers of SeraFem: Happy Pills for PMS.

"The Blunt Force Trauma of Suzumiya Haruhi" by Brian Randall.
It's on FFML...a prologue and two chapters so far...
At first I thought that Kyon would had been thrown to another universe like "Shuffle", but I guess I was wrong.
And who knew Brian Randall was a Nagato fanboy. ^^

A Ranma Recommendation

Ranma, the Second Time Around
www.fanfiction.net/s/1988140/1/
Anyone looking for a Ranma 1/2 altfic, this one is quite good - the characterisation avoids the usual fanon pitfalls so far as I can tell, and at 714,000 words it's fairly meaty.

A Ranma Recommendation
07-29-2006, 10:10 PM
I remember reading a bit of that one a while back, and that there was something about it that had me putting it down and going 'meh'.
*browses* *frowns* And I don't think it was just the Ranma/Akane matchup, though that was certainly a part of it.
Can't put my finger on it.

Me too. I'm blaming the "fnords" - subtle grammatics and formatting that irritate me.

You know,I'm getting REALLY SICK of Akane-bashing in Ranma fanfics.C'mon guys, she's not THAT bad! Really....
I'd rather see some Nabiki-bashing,for a change."There's only one kind of monster that uses bullets"-Colonel VanHeusen , from "It! The Terror From Beyond Space"

In this fic in particular, the Ranma/Akane pairing is... boring.
Ranma does practically everything RIGHT.
Of course, to fit canon, a typical post end-of-manga scene between Ranma and Akane would go:
"Pervert!"
"Tomboy!"
"I hate you!"
"I hate you more!"
*mad, passionate citrus scene*
Admittedly there are several authors *cough*Skysaber*cough* who demonize Akane in all of their works. Oddly I found Ornstead's SI Marty Stu fic set in an alternate Sailor Moon continuity to be enjoyable... until he added Ranma just to bash Akane...
On a similar note: has anyone seen any good Otaku fics lately? that is, an inverse of a SI, much like EPU's Undocumented Features.
For example, real-world author somehow stumbles upon/rescues a girl who uncannily resembles Skuld from Oh! My Goddess!. At first he thinks she's a really good cosplayer. A couple rocky road ice cream cones later, he discovers she's the real deal and dismayed to be in contact with an empty Yggdrasil system. She takes discovering that she's considered fictional poorly.
Another one, that I saw the start of, and it was abandoned: Rei Ayanami finds herself at an anime convention after self-destructing her EVA against Armisael. She wins a costume contest for her plug suit, and is led around by an Asuka cosplayer...
meh it's been a while...

But she's so easy to hate ...
... 'sides, SC, there's plenty of Nabiki-bashing stuff out there.
On the flip, I don't really mind the pairing, if it isn't done ... well, _boringly_.
For the 'R/A done well' example, I point you to Eric Hallstrom's stuff.
And no, I've not seen any Otakufics lately ... somebody should write 'The Nightmare of Suzumiya Haruhi', wherein she ends up in the real world. Or maybe one where the author character runs across a succession of confuzzled characters who're the killed 'precious people' from Mai Hime.

Re: 284 is enough AGAIN! NEW NEW new fic reccomendation thre

I'm not certain if it counts but I do remember reading a fanfic wherein a pair of otaku cosplay as Ranma and Shampoo to go to a party or con or something, then a magic spell at the con turns them into the characters.
Now that I remember it more clearly I stopped reading it at about the point I realised it was porn.
