Well, now that I know I got into closed beta somehow and didn't notice (Seriously, no sign of any emails), I'm going to tell you all about- *Is jumped from behind by men in black suits with the Paragon Studios logo. Violence ensues, very briefly, and MD is dragged away. MIB approaches the keyboard.*
We apologize for the smart-assed comments of this City of Heroes player. By way of apology, please enjoy this silly cat caption, which we hope will sum up your response to the upcoming Issue 17, Dark Mirror expansion for City of Heroes. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/ ... ibbons.jpg
Okay, this thread here sums up what's going on fairly well:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=212389 That said, I think it's safe to say that Loyalty program participants are, in fact, included in this closed beta. And like with the previous closed beta for Dual Pistols, you won't be notified in email about it if that's your method of access. You will simply have access, or you won't. This has not been confirmed by any dev so far that I can find. However, the experiences related in this thread provide strong corroborative evidence, I'd say. (PS - Dark Mirror is -awesome-. ![]() --sofaspud --"Listening to your kid is the audio equivalent of a Salvador Dali painting, Spud." --OpMegs

Moving tails are awesome.
Swish swish swish swish swish. That is all. Also, since tails are a separate option now, you can now have tails + belts. Which is awesome. -- Acyl
Okay - NOW it is really official. We are in Open Beta. It's been officially announced on the main CoH website.
And Samuraiko's latest Issue Preview vid is up at Youtube.
*watches Vid* to those that can use it, please try and keep the "OMG Uber" about ultramode to a min, i don't need another reminder about how badly i need to update my system
![]() as for this new dark mirror stuff *muse shuffels some paper work and hands over a note* i think i have a story idea or two for that ![]()
Oh, btw, the actual Dark Mirror arcs? Serious mindfuck territory at times. The devs are evil.
-- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak.
Clones... Mirror, Same As Me only different.... extra limbs.... and new shiny stuff (which I can't see)...
And you try fighting yourself times 8.... its hard! This is going to be fun! Tip re the new missions: Choose your conversations wisely... they BRANCH! and have Going Rouge Teasers! Bob Schroeck Wrote:Oh, btw, the actual Dark Mirror arcs? Serious mindfuck territory at times. The devs are evil.oooooh, i'm gona love writeng snippets for this ![]()
I just had a run through with my heaviest hitters on both sides... Terrence, you might actually have met your match with this Proto guy...
Evil does not even begin to describe it.
Stop Teaaaasing meeeeh you bastiches... *sob* lol I sooo want this to hurry up and come out so I can..kick the crap out of myself

Now that I think about it, the next time one (or more) of you Run the content with your Shadow Doubles..so to speak..could someone use a power analyzer on them to look at their stats? Do they get any of the bonuses that you do from sets? or would it be like fighting yourself useing basic enhancments with beefed up HP and damage most likely?.. because I'd really like to Know what kind of difference there would be between say like.. Terr (being Super on a few billion dollar build) vs a clone of himself.
If it had the same boosts as he does from sets...that would be.....ugly lol, then I really would be Q_Q'in for someone to come help me kill my dark clone since I know I'd not be able to drop him with just smashing damage lol.
Ooh... excellent point!
(Scampers off to test with Cyberman 8.)
Ok. It appears the clone copies your powers. But not your IOs or sets.
For example - Melee Defense. Cyberman 8 has 38.40% at the level of the mission because of IO bonuses. My clone only had about 26% Melee Defense. I'd say that's a pretty significant difference. Oh - the mission arcs you do this in are level 29. So if you use Ouro to do them on Terrence Knight, be sure to invite anyone with you at the beginning, because you won't be able to in the middle. Thankfully they are short arcs.
Yeah, unfortunately, the Clones seem to be significantly weaker than you are due to just the fact that they're conn'd to LT instead of Boss, IIRC.
Protean, on the other hand, is a frigging beast. --- "Oh, silver blade, forged in the depths of the beyond. Heed my summons and purge those who stand in my way. Lay waste." dark seraph Wrote:*watches Vid* to those that can use it, please try and keep the "OMG Uber" about ultramode to a min, i don't need another reminder about how badly i need to update my system Bah. Being able to run well on so much as *medium* is new to some of us. >.> As for the Dark Mirror stuff, I'm looking back and forth between the comments and my characters and thinking, "Clones? No, seriously. Clones?" Just because even in the most comic-bookey interpretation of cloning you can get, where cloning copies things like *memories*, and *scars*... most of them wouldn't have superpowers anymore! I might have to pretend they're robot duplicates for it to make any sense at all. '.' -Morgan.
Well there are two types of clones.
Here - spoilers just in case - ----- The hero-side mission deals with alternate universe versions of yourself. Including one good copy and one evil one. You fight both, but the good version gets a clue and joins you to help defeat the bad one. I ran that with Cyberman 8, and the nature of the "cloning" is such that it would work with him. The villain version deals with more literal clones. And it's related to Crey's Hero Revenant project! But there's some hints about Praetoria in it. Ran that one with Lily the Diamond, and it's possible for her to have genetic material sampled, despite her crystalline body. ----- Hilite and read the above if you're interested.
Interesting, but...
That still wouldn't really work for Shia, since her abilities are dependent on a large piece of hardware that she didn't make and isn't a part of her. (And costs more to make than a robot duplicate.) But when I think about it more, it runs into the same problem I was thinking of with Alexis - not native to the CoH universe or one even remotely similar, so a counterpart from something like the Praetorian world might exist but would be vanishingly unlikely to have the same abilities. If it's instead supposed to be them being able to filter incredible numbers of alternate worlds looking for a suitable one... then I might suffocate to death on airborne particles of my suspension of disbelief. Maybe I should just only run this arc on Karen Park. At least she's native, biologically ordinary, and builds all her own equipment... -Morgan.
Or..you could always..y'know.. Run the arc for the sake of running it to see what its like and say 'fuck you' to the reasoning behind the clones *shrugs* I dunno why its so hard for some to just..play the content instead of having to examine every facet of it and how it would..or wouldn't work for their characters >.>
Personally, when I get back in the game (which should be within the month), I'm going to assume that clone-Lincoln is really the Giant Stone John Wilkes Booth.
![]() --Sam "Could it be... A RUSE? A CLEVER RUSE?!"
You don't really expect me to do things the *easy* way, do you?
*shrug* I probably will be content to do that actually, much like I say "That never happened," to all the Chosen One stuff villainside. But the need to do so kind of annoys me. The original hero content seemed like it made it easy to fill in how things related to your character, a design which well suits the variety of stuff the game inspires people to create. But more and more stuff seems to be trying to force you into a particular idea of what the world is like... even if you aren't supposed to be from this world. I'd probably also care less if earlier descriptions of the nemesis system hadn't suggested you'd be able to choose some of this stuff yourself. -Morgan.
Well, the Nemesis system is....Champions Online, not CoH.
As noted, all Dark Mirror ever said about itself was that it would "introduce villains that could match you blow for blow". --- "Oh, silver blade, forged in the depths of the beyond. Heed my summons and purge those who stand in my way. Lay waste."
Eh, gsub! "Nemesis system" and whatever name it was they used when they started talking about this idea for CoH then. I'm still sure I remember there being something about being able to do some customization yourself at some point in the past. (And it's unlikely to be CO flashbacks, since I haven't played that.)
