In my case, it would be really nice if I at least knew where the freaking dice were.

Check under the couch. That's where mine usually end up.

On to 8!

I just checked my resume status for Queens. Looks like I passed muster. So it's 8 now!

Oh, and in about an hour, I'm off to an interview in NYC for a job with a "boutique consultancy". Dunno how I got it or how I'm actually going to do -- the submission of my resume to this place was a hail Mary pass that I really didn't expect to work. But apparently the company president saw my resume and flagged it. I suspect that if I'm lucky I'll get out of there with my dignity only slightly tattered.

Back. Actually, back about 90 minutes ago, but I just got to the boards. Interview lasted about 45 minutes -- almost all of that with two programmers. Tiny little place, seems to be about six or seven people, but they apparently do bang-up business -- they specialize in consulting on and customizing a software product for Wall Street traders that licenses for something in six figures or more per seat. I got along well with the two programmers, we ended up more back-and-forthing than question-and-answering, if you get what I mean. About forty minutes in, the company president, who had ducked in and introduced himself earlier, took me into another room, and asked me my salary requirements. And when I'd given them, he ushered me out. Not quite a bum's rush but surprisingly fast. I'll find out if I'm going back for a second interview on Monday, but in the mean time I'm confused as to whether I did or said something wrong with him.

You got along well with the interviewers, so that's good. The one that has me scratching my head is whether the President decided to place you in the pile for the second interview or whether he decided your salary requirements will not fit the budget. I'd say roll the 8 ball. Either way you'll know on Monday.

Not Queens, but Allentown PA. Weird. Could had sworn Queens was passed. *Shrug*

Allentown? If you make it, we'll have to invite you over some time -- that's close enough that Helen commutes to work near us from there. (It's a long commute, but it's a commute...)

Heh. Funny, I used to live around there before I joined the Navy.
If you love an outstandingly good hot dog, make sure you swing through Emmaus and stop at Traub's Doggies. It's a little hole-in-the-wall place along the main street, tucked underneath one of the houses there. Don't worry, they got a sign out and everything.
And if you want to make it a picnic, there's a sizeable and scenic wildlife preserve no more than a mile from the town center. It is literally a few blocks away from where I lived. Kid thee not, they even rehab raptors over there. Worth a look if you have the free time, especially this time of year.

Ads that claim to be for jobs in Manhattan in the basic listing but say in their text that they're actually for a position in Arkansas, for which interviews are taking place in Manhattan.
Far as I'm concerned, that's outright fraud.

Well I'll be....
One of my applications to the army actually passed thru screening...and it only took 35 army applications to do it!

Edit: Even weirder..this was a long shot application..all the others that I thought were shoo-ins were rejected. This one actually flew.

Okay one of my other applications from the EPA also passed. The strange thing it's for the same job position, but it's a different job announcement number and a different number of vacancies, so it's a toss up between whether it's the same application or not. Probably not, but somebody had a budget increase, if not. It's for the Hazardous Site Clean-Up Division for the Mid Atlantic area, based in Philly.
The other 2 positions are in D.C and it looks like an office job. The jobs looks interesting, the prospect of field work also appeals to me.

Off to an interview with a consulting firm in half an hour -- wish me luck.

In the mean time, the recruiters who tried to get me that VP position with (major investment bank) have gotten back in touch with me -- apparently they've got another opening at (major investment bank) which needs both .NET and Delphi, and which they seem to think I'm ideal for.
