I'm actually reading through all of Zevrin's dialogue.

So bloody hilarious

Wynne is not the innocent little old lady that she makes herself out to be early on either.  Some of her lines with Alistar if your running a female character that is romancing him are down right funny.  She seems to like embaracing poor Alistar.

I have never actually seen this trailer for DA:O until today.

I want a movie of this now. Come on bioware.

That's the trailer that convinced me to buy the game.  Yes, I know, trailers always lie.
This one... didn't.  Not as much as they usually do, anyway.
As long as Uwe Boll isn't the one doing it, I'd buy tickets -now- for a Dragon Age movie.
(Or, hell, -any- movie of a game produced by BioWare.)

I think an awsome part of that video is that just about every "power" they used in the vid is actually in the game.  The shield attack Overpower, Fireball, Arrow of Slaying, Chain Lighting (I think), Walking Bomb, and Spider Shape.  Rather cool how they made the powers in the movie direct to the ones in the game itself ..... now if only the dragons were really THAT easy to beat ^.^

The more I keep watching the trailer (Yes, I've watched it several times already and it's still just as awesome every time), the more my brain keeps thinking LotR movie during that opening minute or so.

Gonna go pour over my DA:O PDFs for the tabletop RPG again. I just love the detail they put into the world.

Back to the story!

So I dove into the depths of the Deep Roads today.

Heh. Dove. Deep.

I hate spiders. I can be knee deep (well, waist deep, I'm a dwarf) in miniature raptoroids, no problem, but my own weight in spiders causes me no end of torment.

I burnt through eleven injury kits and 19 health poultices beating the Queen Spider Bitch ;_; Everything Hurts.

It's gotta be some kind of bad omen when you crack open your Dragon Age: Origins box and the manual and disc inside are Awakening. >.

ruh roh, EML.

Here, have some Leliana dialogue to cheer you up.

From http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Leliana%27s_Dialogue

"I once drank a thimble of dwarven ale. Woke up a week later in Jader wearing nothing but my shoes and a towel."

"Dying while in the company of a lovely seductress... tell me that isn't a good death. "

Many beasts (Dragonlings, drakes, wolves, spiders, and ogres) all have special attacks that will pin/pickup a character and just pummel and/or maul the crap out of them.   If you did not already know there are ways to stop these attacks mid use and save you a lot of headaches (and potions).   Any time a character is being hit by one of these killer attacks you can use any hold/stun spell (paralyze, sleep, mind blast, cone of cold, ect) or a stunning attack like shiled bash, pommel strike, or riposte strike on the offending monster and instantly stop the overpowering attack.  So next time that ogre picks up a guy and starts pawnching him to death give him a good taste of a hold/stun attack ^.^
Also you all know about the special combo spell effects, yes?

So, I've become Bioware's bitch and picked up the small DLCs from their website. Before heading back to Denerim, I went to Soldier's Peak and cleared out the Warden's Keep. Let me say that the Warden Commander armor you get off of Levi's Great Grandmother is a sweet set. Looks pretty cool too.

http://dragonage.wikia.co...rden_Commander_Armor_Set

The story behind the keep is interesting and two of the battles are tough. Plus apparently you get a couple of new merchants and a storgae place for your inventory.

One thing I must have missed about the game though is the possibility of equipment upgrades. Is this something specific only to certain items?

However, I've now discovered that playing the game seriously taxes the laptop. Heats that thing right up and tends to auto-shutdown during gameplay. Think I need to get a cooling mat to be able to play for more than 1-2 hours.

Ooh, if you got the DLC, make sure you wander around a bit, there's a random event that lets you grab the best 1-h or 2-h sword in the game.

Also, yes, equipment upgrades are only on certain weapons, those being the ones that you can see a slot on. The upgrades consist of runes, you can talk to the younger dwarf in you camp to access upgrading (enchantment).

The Wiki mentioned something about selling certain items to a merchant and then buying it back (Like the warden Commander armor set). Is this something exclusive to the DLC? Also, I assume you mean Starfang? The one you have to get the special Ore for?

Ah combo spell effects how I love thee.  By casitng one spell followed by another you can create extra effects for example:
-Cone of Cold or Petrify on an enemy then hit them with a critial melee hit, stonefist, or crushing prison and get a shatter effect.
-Use repulsion glyph and cast glyph of paralysis on the same spot and they counter react and explode causing an instant AoE hold on everyone in the blast area.
-Hit an enemy with sleep and follow up with horror to do massive unresistable damage and hold (184 has been my max).
-Hit enemy with sleep and then use waking nightmare.  WN is unresistable when used on sleeping enemies.
-Cast inferno and lightning storm on the same spot to cause a firestorm effect.
These are just a few examples, there are many more in the game.  Crowd control mages in this game are win and awsome!  Just ask the elf blood mage Amarthir who CC's everything to death =D

Here's some fun trivia about the game for folks
http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Easter_Eggs
also, just because it's probably the best song of the entire game, lyrics to Leliana's Song (http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Leliana%27s_Song)

hahren na melana sahlin
emma ir abelas
souver'inan isala hamin
vhenan him dor'felas
in uthenera na revas
vir sulahn'nehn
vir dirthera
vir samahl la numin
vir lath sa'vunin
Translated from the elven into English:
elder your time is come
now I am filled with sorrow
weary eyes need resting
heart has become grey and slow
in waking sleep of freedom
we sing, rejoice
we tell the tales
we laugh and cry
we love one more day

I have a difficult time asking blood mages anything, they don't talk too well when they're full of holes.

So far, my 'new hotness', and it's working damn well in single-target, is to turn Leliana loose (she's got new tactics, cycles her 'special' shots), turn the boys loose (tactically, they're cycling shield pummel and KD and overpower), then ride Morrigan like a nitrous-injected bitchcycle.

HEAL REGEN REJUVE HEAL LIGHTNING WEAKNESS HEAL REGEN REJUVE

usually my single target gets to just stand or lie there while we beat him to death with swords. Is very happy.

I'm still learning how to use Tactics. Just gotta start looking at fights, how I run them, and what I prefer my guys do without me having to pause all the time to get them to do it.

I have 2 main "battle chains" with my my blood mage.  They get altered as needed.
Group consists of Me, Shale, Morrigan, and Zev.  Me CC mage, Shale tank spec, Morr healer spec, and Zev backstab spec.

1) AoE sleep (instant cast), Morr and I both use Horror, cast mass paralysis, unleash shale and zev, use paralysis, crushing prison, cone of fire/cold as needed.

2) Activate blood magic, use blood wound (aoe damage over time/hold), toggle off blood magic, fireball, unleash shale/Zev, mass paralysis, use other spells as needed.

Total crowd control, most fights end without hardly even being hit.

Geez, Z, you're a beast.

What level is your crew, anyway?

Also, is there any way to respec? At this point, I'd seriously like to rebuild Morrigan and Leliana from the ground up.

Amarthir is no longer in DA:O, he has progressed into the awakening expansion.
I had dinged level 20 at the archdemons death and became the Chancellor of Fereldin with my "puppet king" on the throne.
Damn I love how you can shape the ending for your character. ^.^ ... who says an Elf can't rule the land heh heh

Right now I'm lvl 23 and things have only gotten worse for the enemy as I now have a +20 spell power staff and special blood mage robes.
I'm delving into the Battle Mage epic specialization for the pbaoe life siphon, pbaoe frost hold, and the pbaoe channel DoT hit.
I have Ohgren as tank/melee dps,an apostate mage as main healer, and the son of Arl Howe (rogue) as my ranged backstabber.

There are not respec's in DA:O .. there is in the DA:A expansion.

Not only an Elf ZK, but a mage as well. If memory serves, it's against Fereldan law for a Mage to sit as King.

True dat.
After the fall of the oppressive mage ran Tivinter Empirium it was outlawed to allow any mage to ever sit on the throne again.
