Faerie Dreams is closing.

I believe there are still a few things that Mada and Thorne have made but are not available elsewhere, so you might want to look through the store sometime soon... before it's too late.

I recall that somebody here uses Blender... This thread is rather one-sided; I'd be interested in what someone who actually uses the software has to say about the matter.

Upgrade time
New PC - 16gb, I5 processor, etc..time for a move
I just went from Poser 2012 (pro) to 2014 (pro) at the same time.
All my runtimes should be a fairly easy migrate, except the default (where Daz through stuff by default.)...
Grrr... I think I have about two weeks of futzing about to get back to where I am productive again.
On the plus side, considerably more power than before.
Should be fun.

Must be nice to have that kind of problem. (My PC-upgrade money went to a new washer and dryer, plus some car work...)

Oh, yes - who did I miss on this list? I know it's rather Daz-centric at the moment.

Okay, just what is this? (Besides "this week's DAZ3D freebie" or "a model," that is.)

The description indicates it's (based on) something Lovecraftian, but I don't recognize it at all...

It's vaguely reminiscent of Yog-Sothoth with the tentacle-blob with lots of eyes, but I think it's more just inspired by Lovecraftian Style, not anything in particular.

Does anyone out there still have the zip files for Sensible Shoes and Bossy Boots?

Headkase has withdrawn them from general circulation (because they were being posted to Second Life), but has given permission to redistribute them as long as they only go to people who will use them in only modeling/rendering programs. (See here.)

Three of us on the Daz forums are trying to get the complete set, so that at least one of us can fulfill requests. We still need a dozen of them.

Sensible Shoes: Staci, Skye, M3, Miki2, Cookie/Chip, Scampixie, Little One, S3, BJD, TY2, Mil Baby (incl Bossy Boots)
Bossy Boots: Scampixie

If anyone has any of these zip files, please email them to me - my board handle at gmail.com has plenty of room for the attachments.

Shows how out of touch I've been with Second Life. When I heard about the trouble with the over-reach license boilerplate, I was just thinking that it involved merchant texture resources. Now that I know they've enabled MODEL uploads, I understand fully why it's become such a big damned deal to people in the 3d community.
Thanks for the info on that, Rob.

Yeah, it's a wonder that nobody's called Second Life on that IP grab - yet.

As for the Sensible Shows and Bossy Boots, half of the "missing" zips have been located (in one case, deep in my own archives). We're still looking for these:
Sensible Shoes: Staci, Skye, Cookie/Chip, Scampixie, TY2
Bossy Boots: Scampixie

Does anyone have them?

Who's to say that someone hasn't? When I left, Linden Labs already was gaining a reputation for Ivory Tower Ruling, after all. It's possible that people have made noise, and it's been firmly ignored.
On the other hand, it's also possible that they removed the offending boilerplate... but no one's really willing to give them any sort of benefit of the doubt given that their whole model is based on people selling content in the world.

I'm hosting the March Freebie Challenge this year. Come and play! I have prizes!

EDIT: Usually, the first week is taken up by people talking about the theme, rather than actually doing anything with it. This time around, I already have a half-dozen entries - including one direct anime reference (in post #40). I think I picked a good theme for once.

I definitely picked a good theme - I had 14 entries total.

This month's theme is "cyberpunk". There's six entries so far - barely more than half what I had at this time last month. (There's five prizes this month. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/39416/]Come and play; the odds are good you'll win something if this keeps up.)

.

On an unrelated note, I think somebody noticed all the comments about people using Poser and Daz Studio for their tabletop roleplaying games, but misunderstood:

I just finished downloading it. Rather than being a static prop, the screen has three points of articulation - it can be posed folded up (on top of a book), unfolded (in front of a GM), or anywhere in between.

The character sheet and map are static props - no bending them. (So are the dice, of course, which appear to be based off Chessex dice if I'm not mistaken. The d4's a giveaway. They're all solids - must make "gem" and opalescent options for them some time.)

EDIT:

I like this freebie. Let's play with it, over here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/40112/
Yes, that's US$25 of my own money, converted to a Daz gift card, up for grabs.

And two other people have donated DAZ3D gift certificates, so it's a real contest now.

Three prizes, (so far) two entries - one of the minis attacking the dragon on the screen, one of a mini resting against a d20 on the shore of the pond in the map.

With the number of gamers here, I'm surprised I haven't seen any names I recognize from this forum taking part in the contest yet...
