3D modeling thread #2 - re-render

Looks like one of the long-time RDNA pieces has changed where it's at, and has gone donation-ware... the Aiko 3 Retro Skirt. http://idelacio.deviantart.com/art/Aiko ... -449584922

As has the Swinging Pack Expansion for it. http://idelacio.deviantart.com/art/Swin ... -449586797

Thanks - I missed buying that at RDNA, and it's rather essential when one is using A3 in a ST:TOS setting.

Yes, that's US$25 of my own money, converted to a Daz gift card, up for grabs.
And two other people have donated DAZ3D gift certificates, so it's a real contest now.

Three prizes, (so far) two entries - one of the minis attacking the dragon on the screen, one of a mini resting against a d20 on the shore of the pond in the map.

With the number of gamers here, I'm surprised I haven't seen any names I recognize from this forum taking part in the contest yet...
With six days left to take part, this contest has four entries - and three prizes. Odds are good you'd win something if you took part, assuming the judge pulls names from a hat.

We ended up with ten entries, and this is the one that won:

One thing I like about Daz3D is their policy on price snafus in the store. If the snafu is in their favor and you tell them, they'll give you store credit for the difference. If the snafu is in your favor, lucky you!

So... At the moment, this is $0.00

Quote:Have you ever actually pictured the lyrics to your favorite song? Here is your chance to create a vision inspired by music. Choose a line or two from a song—or use the title—and create a picture that represents those words.

Here's what's already been done by others:
  • "There’s a snap in the grass behind your feet / And a tap upon your shoulder, / And the thin wind crawls along your neck; / It’s just the old gods getting older." (Jethro Tull, Beltane)
  • "You're so vain / you probably think this song is about you" (Carly Simon, You're So Vain)
  • "Hear me sing / “Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you”" (This Mortal Coil, Song To The Siren)
  • Tina Turner, I Can’t Stand the Rain [using the song title as inspiration]
  • "I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name / It felt good to be out of the rain / In the desert you can remember your name / ‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain" (America, A Horse with No Name)
  • Katy Perry, Hummingbird Heartbeat [using the song title as inspiration]
  • "Yeah darlin’ gonna make it happen / Take the world in a love embrace / Fire all of your guns at once and / Explode into space" (Steppenwolf, Born to Be Wild)
  • "Look at me / I can be / Centerfield" (John Fogerty, Centerfield - my first entry, and I'll admit here to being tempted to recolor the uniform from blue to red and making it a Princess Nine homage)
  • AC/DC, Thunderstruck [using the song title as inspiration]
  • Bob Marley, Time Will Tell
  • "Nights in white satin / Never reaching the end / Letters I’ve written / Never meaning to send" (Moody Blues, Nights in White Satin)
  • “She is like a cat in the dark / And then she is the darkness” (Stevie Nicks, Rhiannon)
  • ? (somebody at Disney), A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes [using the song title as inspiration]
  • Billy Idol, White Wedding
  • ?, Tea For Two
  • "‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ay / I’m on top of the world, ‘ay / Waiting on this for a while now / Paying my dues to the dirt / I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ay" (Imagine Dragons, On top of the world)
  • "Looking back on the memory of / the dance we shared ‘neath the stars above. / For a moment all the world was right. / How could I have known that you’d ever say goodbye." (Garth Brooks, The Dance)
  • REM, It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)!
  • Jefferson Airplane, White Rabbit
  • Led Zeppelin, Gallows Pole
  • Sara McLachlan, In the Arms of an Angel
  • “Eve said to Adam “Catch me if you can.” / It’s been the same old story ever since the world began.” (John Cafferty, Garden of Eden)
  • Bob Dylan, Leopard-skin Pill-box Hat
  • Linkin Park, Walking Dead
  • Sting, Walking On The Moon
  • "When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears. / When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears. / And I held your hand through all of these years. / But you still have all of me." (Evanescence, My Immortal)
  • Modest Musorgskij, Pictures at an Exhibition: The Hut of Baba Yaga

So Smith Micro is back into their regular sale insanity with a 60% discount on Poser software. I'm downloading my upgrade to Poser Pro 2014 right now, after paying $100. The "sidegrade" prices are pretty good as well.

Oops - I just cleared my wishlist at Renderosity in such a way that I'll be getting $6.60 in Render Rewards. Any suggestions what to spend that on? (Maybe something nice for A3 or H3... if Rendo still has anything for them in that price range.)

One of the Daz3D admins let slip an undocumented feature of the store... All items, sorted by price: http://www.daz3d.com/people?cat=2&dir=asc&order=price

I suppose one could go to the last page on the list and see what the most expensive item in the store is - but the usefulness of sorting everything in the store by price is that all the free stuff is at the start of the list.

Obviously, the five-day challenge is long gone. The main challenge is still going ... and, roughly at the mid-point, I have one entry so far. What am I going to do with the other four prizes?

One day left, and there are seven entries - three from the same person. Unless someone else enters "just under the wire", the question is who gets which prize, not who gets a prize.

Monday, I can concentrate on the secret project... (What? Dartz already found it? I can't keep anything a surprise around here...) Ah, well - we'll pretend it's like a chapter of Drunkard's Walk (so no spilling the beans elsewhere until Monday, please): There's finally a http://poserdazfreebies.orain.org/wiki/Main_Page]freebie wiki. I'm having trouble uploading images to it, so it's still in "pardon the dust as we move in" mode until Orain fixes that.

Ask Orain to add image uploading to your wiki (I'll see if I can't get that done beforehand) via their IRC channel.

If need be, I'll file an ansible request to that effect.

Looks like I forgot to mention - DAZ3D revamped their website recently, and revamped their freebies section at the same time. I don't see any "buy one, get one free" deals any more - instead, a dozen (or so) older items are made available for free for a short time (roughly a week, give or take). http://www.daz3d.com/freebies

Working on the freebie wiki, and my lack of knowledge about Poser figures is starting to show. Are P6 Jessi and James the same as G2 Jessi and James?

Reality 4 is coming on December 1.

Since the traffic caused by the announcement crashed the official website, I'll point folks at the DAZ3D forum thread:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/48860/

Looks good - support for SSS and light-emitting materials in Daz Studio, support for DSON-imported models in Poser, automatic presets for quite a few figures in both versions, and the usual much, much more... for $49.95 for new buyers or $19.95 for upgrades (as an intro price).

Poser World needs money - nearly $3000 before the end of the calendar year.

So they've brought back the one-week membership for $9.99.

They're also offering to make any model you want for $100. You get all rights to the model. (This is a discount from their usual prices for this service, unless what you want is so simple that it would take less than four person-hours to make.)

I know it's small compared to ATT, but the Poser and Daz Freebies wiki just reached 1,000 content pages. Not too bad for a wiki that's only been around for a little under four months and still has gaping holes in its structure.

I will admit 272 of those 1000 pages are indexes. Indexes are important.

We could use some help from folks who actually know the Poser Content...
