3D modeling thread #2 - re-render

robkelk Wrote:Looks like I forgot to mention - DAZ3D revamped their website recently, and revamped their freebies section at the same time. I don't see any "buy one, get one free" deals any more - instead, a dozen (or so) older items are made available for free for a short time (roughly a week, give or take). http://www.daz3d.com/freebies
There's some useful stuff this week - including the V4 Cocktail Dress and a modern bus stop. (Yes, if you've been in the hobby for a while, you've got most of the freebies ... but not everyone has been in the hobby for a while.)

robkelk Wrote:Working on the freebie wiki, and my lack of knowledge about Poser figures is starting to show. Are P6 Jessi and James the same as G2 Jessi and James?
I still need help here. After a lot of research, I was able to determine that the various versions of Miki aren't cross-compatible... but I can't spend that much time on another figure family. Somebody please tell me about Jessi and James, and Ben, and Ryan, and Alyson, and the other figures that ship with Poser or are usable only in Poser.

Dunno if you've got these already, but here's a site with "Furry" freebies:

I'm hosting the March Freebie Challenge. I've got prizes - including a fully-rigged model of the Monkee-Mobile!

I score creativity higher than technical competence. I can't speak for the other judges (because I don't know who they are yet), though.

Has anyone tried Truespace, Hexagon, or DAZ Studio on Windows 8?

I haven't. But I have tried Hexagon on Windows 7. Let's just say that my last attempt to edit a freebie file, it was so crash happy that I'm working on learning Blender now.

Still can't speak for the other judges because I still don't have any... but I've got two entries so far.

Ended up with 15 entries - a good showing lately, and up there with the usual activity of a few years ago.

This is nifty... Do you need a low-res environment based on a real-world location?

You don't need to use the Account Manager; you can get the downloads from the Product Library. Login, click on the blue man in the upper-right corner of the page and select "My Account", then click on "Product Library" on the first row of icons. You'll get download access to all of your purchases - and the texture templates that you can't get through DIM, as well.

Yeah, they just imply with the design that manual downloading is "difficult"... no, it's just that they're trying to nudge everyone in the direction of having to use their install manager, and hence being "controlled" or at least "managed".
Despite having a copy of DAZ Studio on this system, I don't use their manager malware, I just slide into the product library and use the manual download.

Guess what's free this week - or, at least, today?

EDIT: Oh, yes - once you're in your Product Library, filter on "dim::false" without the quotes, and see what you can't get through the downloader...

Well, this is annoying. I clicked on the link, added it to my cart... then logged in, and now it claims to be in my cart, but my cart claims to be empty.
ETA: N/m. Logged out and back in a couple of times and it turned up.

Everyone else appears to be thinking "casual summer outfit" - I took a slightly different approach:

Okay, I've just bitten off more than I can chew.

Okay, okay - I've bitten off the entire cow.

Fine, fine - I've bitten off the entire elephant.

Who wants to help add actual content to the pages on this list?

("Biting off the entire blue whale" is for when I start the equivalent list for Renderosity...)

Yeesh - I hadn't yet found all the updated links for everything on Poser Club, and they redesign their site again... breaking all of the links that I did find. Look at all the pages I have to re-update...

ShareCG isn't getting any closer to being indexed for a while.

All updated. I located the links (easy enough with MediaWiki), Kerya updated half of the list, and I got the rest.

Oooh, pretty... SanziSannzi has a new free dress for V4.

[Image: 364px-AudryHair%2C_3Zi_DC50sFlareOnepiec...Pearls.png]

Download the dress (and some extra textures) at http://sanzisannzi.blog83.fc2.com/blog-entry-272.html

(Download the hair at http://swam3d.com/category/freestuff/ and the pearls at http://elleque.net/?p=4591 - they've been around for a while, but they're also free. I thought that style of dress needed pearls with it.)

In case this is the only thread you read on this forum:

Orain got hacked and wiped, and is now dead. The freebie wiki has moved to http://poserdazfreebies.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page

There's a three-month gap (so no Genesis 3 freebies are listed), and what was in the system before then has some holes (all but two of the Texture Challenge pages are gone, for example). But we have enough content restored that this is an annoyance, not a disaster.

Are there any tokusatsu fans in the house?

These wiki pages need some fleshing out. What resources have I missed?

(And I haven't even started on the kaiju pages... Other than Scott Ayres' work, what's out there?)

(EDIT: My mistake - I have started the kaiju page: http://poserdazfreebies.miraheze.org/w ... _Resources )
