Asking because of this bit from More Things Involving Shipgirls That Are No Longer Allowed, Chapter 195:
Quote:Everyone stared at the octopus. San Juan stared at the octopus. The octopus stared back. The arms, San Francisco guesstimated, were a good twenty feet long. Unbidden, probably the worst thing she could have said slipped out of her lips.

"I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going."

That was when the screaming started.

Tempting Fate?

There's always Foot in Mouth Syndrome

I love the smell of rotaries in the morning. You know one time, I got to work early, before the rush hour. I walked through the empty carpark, I didn't see one bloody Prius or Golf. And that smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole carpark, smelled like.... ....speed.

One day they're going to ban them.

And "Needs Wiki Magic Love" has been exterminated except for the container category. You would not believe how many huge pages with extensive articles and many many examples or tropes were labeled as "needing love". And you wouldn't believe how many more used it to mean "I'm too lazy to finish this page I started with two minutes' worth of frantic writing, someone else do it for me."

In less-momentous news, my lists of files needing licenses are now complete. In order to avoid over-taxing the server (they're dynamic lists), they're split across a dozen subpages. Here's the top page for the list.

Should we be looking at finding replacements for these CC-BY-NC-SA images?

I seem to recall us not liking the "NC" part of that license. Also two of the four images currently in that category are obviously fan art and can be replaced with images from the source works (MLP:FIM and Doctor Who)

Here's a relatively-quick (i.e., won't take a month to complete) project for somebody: Go through these broken images, check whether they're available in a pre-June-2012 Wayback Machine save, and either re-upload them if they're available or mark them as not being in the Wayback Machine if they aren't.

My long-term (i.e. I expect will take a decade) project will no doubt turn up more broken images for that list, on occasion.

Could someone else please review this edit of a YMMV page? I'm inclined to revert and ping the editor, but I want a second opinion before I do so.

1: "What Do You Mean It's Not Heinous?" might not have an underline when it's a link, but that doesn't make it any less a reaction trope and thus (IMHO) suitable for a YMMV page. But even if it wasn't suitable for a YMMV subpage, the troper deleted it without adding it to the main tropelist.

2: Even if a character is listed as a "Base Breaking Character", that's no reason to remove "The Scrappy" - the two tropes are not synonymous.

Revert and ping. If he does it again, give him the formal warning for "Removing without explanation text that was previously presented as opinion, on a page where opinions are acceptable."

Hands up, everybody who knew that there's a main character named Kamina who pilots a giant mecha and isn't in Gurren Lagann.

We have a disambiguation page for the two Kaminas now. Smile

I'm sure somebody here has watched enough of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? to be able to write a work page for it.

Me, for one. But I don't have time, not with all those images that need to have their licenses identified...

So it's now on List of Works That Need Summary/Manga and Anime

Somebody, please start a Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? page for me. I can kibitz on it, but I don't have the time to do the heavy lifting...

Guys, be careful if you go to TVT for any reason -- use a Google cache copy if you can. I was just checking a new page against TVT's page when something there abruptly tried to redirect me and my antivirus blocked two intrusion attempts in rapid succession.

Are you websurfing with an adblocker on? I've seen page ads try to redirect me in the past, only being blocked by my antivirus suite. (This is why I always websurf with an adblocker on)

I want to change part of the look and feel of the wiki. This idea has been floating around the back of my mind for a few months now, and I can't see any downside to it other than it will lampshade a lot of bad coding that needs to be fixed.

I was taking a quick look at something from my work machine, which doesn't have an ad-blocker but does have a very high-powered antivirus suite.

My personal machine has all manner of ad-blocking, and is where I normally look at TVT from.

Guys, we really need to sit on Kuma. He/she just dumped two more semi-literate trope candidates into the Workshop, which I think brings the Workshop to something half tropes by them -- and every time they try to "improve" something it just gets worse.

Is it bad enough that we should give him a tempban from Trope Workshop? (Yes, we can block by namespace now.)

Two more in two hours, both with the same lack of grammar. Yes, it's bad enough.

I've restricted Kuma's posting rights - for one month, or until somebody has gone through all of his/her suggested tropes and cleaned up the grammar in his/her existing pages (whichever comes first), Kuma is not allowed to edit or create Trope Workshop pages.

EDIT: List of the tropes that need a grammar pass before a month goes by:
  • Trope Workshop:Alternate Realm Boon
  • Trope Workshop:Average in One World, Powerful in Another
  • Trope Workshop:Beary Cute
  • Trope Workshop:Bubble Blower
  • Trope Workshop:Chaos Control
  • Trope Workshop:Exclusive Powers
  • Trope Workshop:Kori Konflict
  • Trope Workshop:Metaphysical App
  • Trope Workshop:Potent Pheromones
  • Trope Workshop:RPG Rapture‎
  • Trope Workshop:Shield Slinger
  • Trope Workshop:Words act more than Actions

EDIT: He's noticed... and asked for help that I can't provide, other than to suggest finding a basic grammar course online.

Folks with access to the private There's Nothing Better wiki can see what I want to do here, here, and here. If those quotation marks are too big (which I'm not sure about), then we'll have to copy them from Commons, resize them, and upload them to ATT.

EDIT: Or I could take screenshots and post them.

This one addresses Bob's concern - what do you think? It does show the perils of having more than one quote in a row, but our Style Guide already discourages that.

Hey, Bob, could you slap a license on this file, please? You only indicated that you made it yourself when you uploaded it a half-decade ago.

I had a brief Discord chat with our friend Kuma, and I've nailed down his biggest issue: He has no sense of brevity.

He tends to write run-on sentences crammed with description porn that are hard to read text walls, and I've advised him to rein that in. Hopefully he can.
