[META] If somebody's looking for something to write about...

And thus passes the most wanted page in the FenWiki.  Glad to know we've sucked one more poor fool^W^Wperson into updating the wiki.
On a related note I bashed together a stub for the Whole Fenspace Catalog last night as not having that was starting to bug me.

I should mention that I don't have much experience with wikis so I'm not sure how well I did. (plus I'm already recalling stuff I've mentioned here in the forum which I forgot to include in the wiki)

You'll pick it up fairly quickly, I'm sure. It doesn't look bad and if you're not sure what to include have a look at some of the other pages for space stations.  And as for things you've forgotten, that's why there's an edit button.  As Rob can tell you after correcting my typos and misconceptions for the umpteenth time (Thanks Rob, and sorry).

Well, I wasn't planning on spending the last two hours collecting all of Mal's, Cobalt's, and my notes on the WFC, but now that the page has been stubbed, I didn't really have a choice... Page updated and unstubbed.

(BTW, why did you assume that there was only tech data in the Catalog?)

I'm going to have to say that some of the material from the earlier Steps -- Dee and Lisa's, at least, and maybe Sana's -- was reconstructed later somehow and may be less complete than the data from the later girls' worlds. The first few girls had no reason to think that they're not "close" to Warriors' World initially, and wouldn't have a reason to be carrying archives with them. Dee, in particular, thought she was merely hopping over to WW for just a couple days to recruit Doug and his friends for the Hardorn War; she wasn't expecting to find herself on a Grand Tour. By they time they got to Buckaroo Banzai's timeline they will have realized that they're not reaching WW soon, and that's probably when they decided to pool their info. Maybe the goddesses helped them extract and collate the earlier stuff when they reached DW5... might also be where they got their storage medium, whatever it is.

Because I somehow managed to miss every reference to it having something other than tech in it.  What my brain manages to retain out of what I learn is a bit... piecemeal sometimes.

Well, to be fair there haven't been a lot of references to the Catalog outside of it's tech potential. At least, *I* don't recall anybody mentioning it in the forums, and my memory for this nonsense is almost eidetic.

As for how they got all this crap, I did figure that once the crew picked up Skuld she'd come up with some sort of technosorcerous widget that sucked the local information nets dry and compiled the highlights into an archive, even on the short stops on the Walk.

Which reminds me... here's an ItGWO spamfic running with the idea:

USSR Ptichka, on the road to Delta Pavonis
September 8, 2013

Sora looked at the display. "The culture index?" she asked.

"Man does not live on widgetry alone, Lieutenant," Mal said loftily. "Besides, with this embarrassment of riches there's got to be something worthwhile in here." He poked at the index. "Ha! Here's something!"

On the box display, tinny voices started playing..

"How many Cubans exactly have crammed themselves into these fishing boats?"

"Well, it's important to understand, Leo, that these aren't exactly fishing boats. You hear the word "fishing boat" and it conjures up an image of, well, a boat first of all. What the Cubans are on would charitably be described as rafts."

"I get it. How many of them are there exactly?"

"We don't know."

"What time did they leave then?"

"We don't know."

"Do we know when they get here?"

"No"

"True or false: If I stood on high ground in Key West with a good pair of binoculars I'd be as informed as I am right now."

"That's true..."

"Well that's the Foreign Office's money well spent then."

Sora looked puzzled. "What is that? It sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it."

"It's a version of The West Wing from a communist United States, apparently."

"Really? Wow. I don't think they ever mentioned something like *that* when we were talking."

"Enh, they probably didn't stay long enough to notice. I looked up some of the Walk stories, and I'm guessing they only cover the high points of the grand tour, y'know?"

"That's probably true. It's a pity, though; it sounds interesting. I'd like to know more."

"Well, at least we got some primo television out of it. I know what's going in the movie night queue when we get back."

I was assuming that Leese, at the least, would have grabbed a copy of the archive that Legion and Minerva dumped onto Sylia's system, and supplemented it with whatever Boomer and Saber tech she could find, plus the tools of her own trade - Who's Who, the equivalent of the CIA World Factbook, and all the other high-level references a photojournalist in MegaTokyo might need at a moment's notice. Whether she'd grab the equivalent references in Sana's world or elsewhere is anyone's guess.

And I can't see anyone other than Skuld designing their storage system. I also can't see Skuld not gathering all the tech data she can, or Sana not gathering all the movies she can, both for later reference.

Okay, that makes sense. I'm cool with that.

Mm.  Good question.  Sana's world is somewhere around 2000 (maybe earlier), and definitely not as wired as the BGC timeline; there's going to be quite a good deal less for her to access electronically.

The http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... php?id=165]animenewsnetwork.com encyclopedia page for Kodocha puts it at 1995-1998. No widespread Internet in Japan, at the least...

That probably wouldn't be the only pre-WWW civilization that the Girls visit, either. I can see somebody carrying around a backpack filled with almanacs and history primers, waiting for the next chance to access a scanner... and I can see Yoriko volunteering to do some data transcription for the Girls when this fact is discovered in Fenspace.

Well, given that GGG Sana is around 14, that's just about right on target.

Or non-WWW civilization. Like Sakura Taisen.  Or a 1960s vision of the year 2000. Not every line of technological development leads to a Web.

Well, added some more to the Babylon.5 entry and added the Starhawk under Spaceships.

Next up will be the APE units, going under spacecraft, and maybe my avatar's company (Wing and a Prayer Enterprises)

I've just cleaned up the http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Submariners]Submariners faction page. That leaves ten pages tagged as http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... of_cleanup]being in need of cleanup.

I'm not sure what GlaDOS is doing on the list, since there's almost no content on her page to clean up... Anyway, that's one for Mal to tackle.

The Rosenbergs, OTOH, have too much content on their pages; cleaning up those three pages will likely be more than just an hour's work each. Since I made those messes, I'll clean them up (probably over the May 8-9 weekend).

Ebony really should be the one to clean up Buckaroo's page.

Should Bob clean up "Disturbing Implications of Land Rising Into the Sky"? It's mostly his story, but we all added to it.

That leaves http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... f_Fenspace]Culture of Fenspace, http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... Technology]Fenspace Technology, http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Quidditch]Quidditch, and http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... et_Academy]Starfleet Academy as pages that anybody can tackle in a half-hour or so each. It looks like Quiddich would be the easiest page to clean up...

I'll try to do some cleanup on the Blue Blazers pages. I still need to finish "Terror from the Shadows" as well. It's a matter of getting off my ass (or sitting down on it as the case may be) and finishing the damned thing. Then I can procrastinate some more on "Buckaroo Banzai and the Restless Dead."

I've been looking through my archives, and found a few forum posts to turn into articles or parts of articles...

http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... n_Fenspace]Interstellar exploration in Fenspace now has more than just a list of places to go. http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... he_Alien_6]Surfing With the Alien 6: Eight Simple Rules, http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Wrist-coms]Wrist-coms, and http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=KITT10]KITT10 are new on the FenWiki; KITT10 is a stub page.

Edit: Oh, and part of the stuff Mal wrote back in '07 about Interstellar exploration lead to my tossing a short (but not stub) page for the http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Juraiians]Juraiians onto the FenWiki.

Fleshed out the NASA page somewhat.  Based on what's noted on the Artemis foundation page, I think I didn't contradict anything.

I see that you're one of those folks who forgets the "Aeronautics" part of "National Aeronautics and Space Administration"... I've edited the article to say that Artemis only bought the space-exploration part of NASA, leaving the rest of the agency on Earth.
