Looking For Font...
Looking For Font...
#1
Since I've found myself doing custom title graphics for the most recent Steps, I suppose that with DWS queued up behind DW8 I should start looking around for a good Sailor Moon-inspired font.  I've already found one, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any others.

Bumping this thread because the release of chapter 1 is actually going to be a thing in the near future. I'll be doing some searching tonight after work, but if anyone already knows of any other fonts reminiscent of either the Japanese or North American title sequences, I'd appreciate a pointer to them.

Thanks.

A basic google search got me this from some font otaku with too much time on their hands: http://kinnohitsuji.deviantart.com/art/ ... -343627820
Not a lot of links there, and a lot of these cost a bit of money.  But when I think of Sailor Moon, I think of either:
  • A bold sans-serif with curved lines for the ã?»ã?¼ã?©ã?¼ã? ã?¼ã?³ part (oh God, that katakana just autocompleted on my computer, what is going on here? ??????), probably a geometric or humanist font for roman glyphs
  • A script face that's a little ornate, but suggests femininity, either a copperplate or a cursive (I know these are a ways apart but...)
The challenge here is that you're trying to convey a work that's at once romantic and modern, both from a feminine view.  Some of that is embodied by using kanji with katakana and romaji (never hiragana, which is a skosh odd given it's traditionally feminine), but I don't think you'll be able to pull of that trick with your title.  You'll just have to do it with fonts.
I'd probably avoid serifs, though I do like the understated serifs on this website.  I love their design despite the fact that the top menu takes up an entire screen, dammit.  Anyway, avoid anything with sharp corners; stick to typefaces that emphasize curves.   And use color gradients.

Thanks, Brent! I'll check all those out tonight when I get home from work.

I did check that page out, and yeah, some good references. But I did a bit more searching of my own, and found http://the-sweet.deviantart.com/art/Fon ... -378072778]this page, which I found very useful. I'm now toying with a logo along the lines of http://www.giantbomb.com/images/1300-2289623/]this, with "Drunkard's Walk S:" in italic Occidental in the upper left, and "Heart of Steel" in, well, right now I'm looking at Caslon Becker No540 Swash Alt Italic.
