This is a bit of an odd mix, but it's esama, so you know it's going to be good.
And a little odd.

Beginning of an Age takes us to Hogwarts. In the year 12,000 and change. It's late in the saga of Vampire Hunter D - spoilers for that if you haven't been reading the manga and/or novels - and Harry has been a vampire for quite a while now. Of course, it's Harry, so he does things his own way. And when the Castle decides to drop in on the village of Terwich, they hire a passing vampire hunter - D - to investigate.

Needless to say, stuff happens.

There's a slightly melancholy feel to the whole thing, much like Vampire Hunter D to begin with, but it's clear enough that there's some hope, too. So read and enjoy.
Vathara has posted and finished a few new stories in the last month, but her newest one that is just starting up looks very promising to me, based in part on his last outing into the MCU. This one is a Sekirei/Avengers crossover called "The Great Escape".

She, actually.

But Sweeten the Bitter Dregs is astoundingly good. A worthy sequel to the anime.

Part of me wishes she'd watch Princess Principal.
Adjacent to Vathara, Kryal (who brought us The Dragon-King's Temple and What the Cat Dragged In, among others) has also been working on a story for Project Tatterdemaillion series (AKA Bleach in Space an everything is science-ish).
Five chapters and ticking along, Resident Project (AKA Resident Evil in Space, but not whatever other game you're thinking that described itself that way)

I've finished posting Book One: Idealist of my Battletech story Davion & Davion (Deceased) to the Spacebattles forum.

Book two is currently being written, but it seemed a reasonable point to promote the story.
For some, this will be a recommendation, if only for comedy value. For others, it would be a Crossover That Should Not Be, if not for the fact that it already is.

I give you Star Wars: Bare Squadron.

"You got nudism in my Star Wars!"
"You got Star Wars in my nudism!"

The circumstances that get the characters out of their clothes are often contrived, and the authors'* grasp of Star Wars lore is not perfect, but they mean well, they're having fun, and the emotional center of the story is in the right place.

* Yes, authors, plural. There's a whole dA comm devoted to fleshing out developing the cast and story. The illustrations are obviously not safe for work, but only Captain86's contributions come close to meeting my definition of "obscene".
A character driven Ranma Romance/Drama story. No character bashing. Very well written. Updates once a month or so, nine chapters with today's update.

What Do You Want? by polenicus

After the failed wedding attempt, Akane calls it quits. Now Nabiki is saddled with a morose Ranma. Rather than get caught in the crossfire between his other fiancees, she decides to try and help the pig-tailed martial artist figure out what HE wants (Purely to forestall mounting repair bills, of course). Maybe a weekend or 'normalcy' away from the craziness will help?
Wow. MarbleGlove just released a three chapter Star Wars story that is one of the best short works I've ever read. And it is based off of an Obi-Wan Kenobi time travel cliché of all things. The end of the third and final chapter is wholly original and a thing of beauty.

Another Star Wars story, this one and AU from esama. As things start out, Qui Gon survives, but there is no sign of Obi Wan in this timeline. Anakin is turned down by the Jedi Council and returns to Tatooine, but he picked up a little something extra before leaving. Obi Wan shows up later, but in an unexpected fashion.

Threadbare. The story of an epic and adorable golem teddybear.

Sanitize (Naruto OC-Insert).
Basic medicine and sanitation are simple. During the Warring Clans era, they become revolutionary.

Second the recommendation. Not a lot of action per se, but good stuff.
In the aeons before distant memory, an empire of myth and legend fell. But what has fallen can rise anew. The weight of ages falls on the shoulders of Usagi Tsukino. And her task will not be an easy one.

Third the recommendation.

An Insert who I want to succeed, who I think could succeed... but it's clearly going to be an uphill struggle.
Oh yeah, Sanitize is great... and so is this one, that ECSNorway dug up for the Requests thread. It's not one I'd seen before, but I'm sure glad I did.

In 1947, Master Sergeant James B. Barnes's surviving field journals were posthumously published as the classic war memoir The Night War. Now a high school history classroom mainstay and required reading at West Point, this highly anticipated 60th Anniversary Edition presents the original, unedited text alongside detailed historical notes that provide important context to the extraordinary wartime heroics of Captain America and the Howling Commandos.

Huh. I saw the fellow's name, and immediately thought this was going to be a Worm fic. File that one in Crossover Ideas that Should Be, I think.
It's probably been mentioned before, but it's definitely worth bringing up again even so - Disobediencewriter's The House of Harry Potter Rebuilt has some great magical theory, and also heads boldly away from canon events to tread refreshingly uncommon ground. 98k words, last chapter was born as the sixth month died but as only the fifth in over a year that's still not out of the bounds of a successful resurrection. (Especially if the author suddenly gets a bunch of comments... Wink )

Ian McDiarmid, asked about Sheev Palpatine in an interview once, Wrote:He has a black, irredeemable heart. There's nothing that can be said about him that's good.

But what if there were? They do say, after all, that even bad men love their mamas... or, in this case, their nieces.

AzureAngel2 Wrote:What has gotten into me that I say he really loves somebody with his dark, black heart?

Well, blame it on me watching President Snow in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” movie recently. See, I like the relationship that he has with his grand-daughter.

Everybody has to love somebody. Like vampire Russell Edgington in the HBO series “True Blood”. Or like the Sir Guy of Gisbourne version in the BBC series “Robin Hood”.

Seven chapters in, intrusions of Earthly pop-culture references do not detract from a compelling and unmistakably Star Wars read.
a story from the author of Desperately Seeking Ranma (though not part of that continuity)
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12709160/1/...Of-Boredom

It's the summer, everyone is on holiday, and Ranma is bored. This is a dangerous thing! A bored martial artist is a martial artist who starts to experiment with new techniques. The result is, well, a little strange...

Currently just one long chapter (42k words), may or may not be continued at some point.
One year ago, Bare Squadron got its own group at deviantArt. Now, Travolore, our* chief writer, celebrates that anniversary and the new year with a glimpse of the fireworks (and water of life) at the Bare Base, and of their Imperial opposite numbers, Operation Cover-Up, having a celebration of their own:

https://travolore.deviantart.com/art/Bar...-723318268

Posted here, rather than as an update, because I'm not precisely sure where it fits into canon (though yer man Trav says it does). I'm tentatively assuming it's somewhere between the chapter just posted and the one to come, but that's not necessarily set in ferrocrete.

(* Yes, our. I've been named an honorary co-founder by Valyrian Wildfire himself, for reasons unknown but time will tell. It could be my persistent continuity nitpicking. It could be my having created saga-style opening crawls for every chapter:

Perhaps both, maybe neither.)

ADDENDUM: Trav has now embarked on a three-part story, Paragon, in which the Squadron's heavy-weapons Zabrak, Mhisha Sahshvy, tells the Togruta-in-chief, Captain Keyla Kaeno, the stories behind some of his scars. Part one is War, covering two moments of the Clone Wars:

Quote:"Sorry Harry..." Said one of his twins. Fred, he thought.

George grinned at him from the other side. "...but we don't want you anywhere near something sharp..."

"...you almost died in a bookstore." They finished together.

Harry is high on wonder for his first visit to Diagon Alley and indulges a bit of whimsy that manages to make him some unexpected friends, then asks all the questions and just keeps up his streak because somehow it keeps working out. 101k words, last updated in August as of today. If anyone recognizes the book series Harry is supposedly quoting, please share with the class; my own best guess is that it's in IC-only invention for the purpose of telling this story.
Justice Wing, by the author of Interviewing Leather.

It's very clearly based on the DC universe, there's a 15km asteroid on collision course with Earth.

And one of John Williams's classic themes has started to play.
Glassmaker

A Worm AU, with an alt-power Taylor.

Complete, short and sweet. A special treat for Constellations fans.

Also, Harry Potter, Geek of Magic. Harry is ... enthusiastic.
