Villainy is profitable. In re: Villain Strike forces.
Posted by: Foxboy - 03-22-2008, 05:41 PM - Forum: The Legendary - No Replies

After we finished Positron last night, several of us gathered to run the first Strike Force in City of Villains: the Tarikoss SF.

Lady Nogitsune gathered many disparate villains, mostly Brutes, but including one Corruptor and a Stalker, to provide the much-needed muscle to prevent the
awakening of Bat'Zul. Nogitsune was aware of the betrayal Tarikoss intended, but went along with it anyway, to prevent the destruction of one of her
favorite massage parlors in Æon City.

This was a refreshing change of pace, as we finished it in under two hours. The only way it could have been faster is if Ankhani, our stalker, had access to
teleportation ability.

Bat'Zul himself went down remarkably fast once we began to fight, but the fire and earth controlly/dommy mobs all over were a little tough on us.

RIAA news coverage, and a related story
Posted by: robkelk - 03-21-2008, 04:23 PM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

Dow Jones MarketWatch: http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/d ... teid=yhoof]RIAA tactics to combat piracy again in question

Note the webpage's title: "Does the RIAA engage in mob-like tactics?" When a article starts out with a loaded question, it's pretty much a given what the answer is supposed to be...

That related story is on The Register: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/20 ... cumvented/]Caribbean firm circumvents BD+ copy protection. It isn't until the fifth paragraph (out of seven) that they mention the Caribbean nation in question is Antigua and Barbuda. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/12/21/antigua_us/](Remember them?)

  Daft Punk?
Posted by: Sweno - 03-21-2008, 10:52 AM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - Replies (2)

I've been listening to far too much old electronica recently and this just won't leave my head.
So I'm going to infect you guys with this idea in the vain hopes that it will leave me alone.

(listing the lyrics of a daft punk song is like doing interpretive dance about particle physics, so I have included youtube links to their videos)

Harder better faster stronger:
Work it, Make it, Do it, Makes us
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
More than, Hour, Our, Never
Ever, After, Work is, Over

Work it, Make it, Do it, Makes us
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

Work it harder, Make it better
Do it faster, Makes us stronger
More than ever, Hour after
Our work is never over

I'm not going to direct link the picture, as it's a 1752x2365 860K jpg, and I have *some* regard for people's connections.

  Numina Numina Numina
Posted by: Kokuten - 03-20-2008, 09:57 PM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (6)

http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Numina_Task_Force

I'm going to try and run Numina TF this sunday.

Numina is a 4 person 35-40 TF, with 6 'core' missions, and a whole _stack_ of hunt missions. Given how fast we can travel, I think we can seriously
reduce total time on this TF.

Membership is currently wide open, I have myself confirmed, on Mag Flashlight (@Wiregeek), as well as Enkili (@Vyperpunk), and possibly Genau'Goeg (@DJ
w00t), giving me 50 tank, 50 scrap, 50 scrap, and 5 slots available.

Sing out! fine tuning on scheduling is up in the air right now, so I'm open to anything but late evening on Sunday.Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979

[meta] Village of Hidden Asteroid Secret Architecture Technique
Posted by: kentmagus - 03-20-2008, 07:43 AM - Forum: Fenspace - No Replies

(another page of a book locked in a vault)

The Village of Hidden Asteroids turns out more gifted martial artists than anyone else on Earth. Part of this reason is because of their curriculum, their
dedication to their art, and their sheer amount of hard work.

A highly secret technique of the Hidden Village is because they used handwavium in some of their martial arts dojos/kwoons/whatever. The influx of martial arts
students and teachers focused on studying and progressing in the martial arts influenced the handwavium into lending a helping hand.

Those who mastered the martial arts of the Hidden Village were often greater masters than those on Earth. It was more that the dojos gave them greater insight
into their art than anything else. This benefit only applied to the masters as one needed to work hard to gain the great insights. A student of the Hidden
Village would be at the same level of those on Earth. Those masters who did gain insight managed to create special secret techniques unique to the Village of
Hidden Asteroids.

One of their more esoteric techniques developed in this manner is a fifteen minute meditation described as recovering their strength of will and setting them
back on their way of the ninja. Effects observed so far means that it's easier for them to recover from mental attacks and are less shaken by frightening
events.

A physical technique demonstrated by a Russian version of Mighty Guy was roofhopping in which the Guy used precisely only the amount of energy needed to launch
him onto a roof. He then proceeded to roofhop all the way to his destination This appears to be a common mode of travel in the Village of Hidden Asteroids. .

Of course, the founding philosophy of their source series is teamwork. Every team when sent out on a mission has trained together and knows what one another is
capable of, and how best to combine one's abilities. The body language and hand signals of chunin and jonin are capable of carrying on a combat-relevant
conversation with someone else while talking to you verbally. This last appears to be more a function of their philosophy rather than the architecture.

  [Draft/RFC] Fenspace Theme Parks
Posted by: robkelk - 03-20-2008, 12:09 AM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (25)

(One inspired by Bob's spring vacation plans this year... )

Theme Parks in Fenspace

There are those who would claim that every Fen settlement is a theme park of some sort, thanks to what many 'Danes think of as the Factions' "picturesque" habits. As Jonathan Helscher once wrote, that's just how Fen live.

Actual Fen theme parks can be found throughout space:

Operating out of an asteroid purchased from Rockhounds, moved to Clarke orbit above 158°W (as close to Hawai'i as possible), and sculpted to have Mouse ears, Disney's World is owned and operated by the Disney Corporation. The name is literal; Disney doesn't make space on their "world" available to other companies. It's much like the company's ground-based parks, although the Space Mountain ride has been replaced with a zero-g playroom. The animatronics are as good as any at the other Disney parks (which is a liability compared to other theme parks' use of AI animatronics).

Federation Land, located in the middle of Utopia Planitia on Mars, strongly resembles an old-style movie studio's back lot. There's a thousand-and-one-nights zone (complete with green dancing girls), a Chicago-gangland zone, a Klingon-homeworld zone, ... if it showed up on an episode of Star Trek, you can find something like it in Federation Land. The park's motto is "Set Phasers On Fun!"

The Kandor Bottle is a small theme park in Kandor City, similiar in size and quality to the various "roadside attraction" parks found throughout North America. While they concentrate on Supers-related exhibits, they have one room devoted to the events of Kandor-con.

Many people are amazed to discover the Wizards have nothing to do with Renfaire, until they remember the Potterites are interested in modern fantasy. Renfaire, found in the Main Belt, is owned by a "guild" of historical-reenactment fen. The park's biggest attraction is the resident Dandelion population, who act as wandering minstrels, troubadors, and bards. The second-biggest attraction is the monthly roasting of an entire ox - this is the only red meat some people in the Belt ever eat. Renfaire's Training Grounds have been open to all comers since the beginning of Operation Great Justice, and have completely modern medical staff on call.

(Any more? Or a better name for "Federation Land"?)
