  Speed Racer Trailer -- GO!!!
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 03-17-2008, 05:58 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (12)

Okay, I have been skeptical pretty much from the word go on the whole idea of bringing Speed Racer to live action. Well it's official -

NOW I am beginning to be IMPRESSED!

I think they have made the right decision here in terms of the world and how to portray it. You CAN'T bring Speed Racer into the real world. Not really. So
the solution? Make the world as BATSHIT INSANE as the original series.

I think this...

JUST.

MIGHT.

WORK.

  [Draft/Outline]Bringing KITT to LIfe
Posted by: kentmagus - 03-17-2008, 02:07 PM - Forum: Fiction - Replies (1)

"Wake up to your first morning as a real AI, KITT. " A cheery voice told the Pontiac Firebird Transam.

"Who are you? Where is Michael?" The car asked. It auto shifted and backed away from the human with the staff.

"Michael Knight's a television show character. I brought you to life to fulfill your function to preserve life. and perhaps because I
thought it would be cool
. " He added in a smaller voice.

"I am scanning database files. Currently, my driver is acting in an undercover capacity as an actor. His fingerprint records must hae been altered again.
"

"David Hasselhoff is not your driver. He's the actor who plays Michael Knight on Knight Rider. "

"Running self diagnostic. I will protect human life. " KITT vanished onto the roadway in 2 seconds. "At cruise speed I will return to Michael in
one day. "The car vanished into the distance.

Kemwer looked at the vanishing dot in the distance with the expression a person who has brought a creation to life and is now seeing it lurch down to the
village.

He took out a palantir and scanned the surrounding area. The car was currently vanishing out of the range of the palantir. It faded out of the smooth stone. He
put the palantir back in his suit.

"Marduk. " He spoke into the com link. "Can you catch up to KITT?"

"You woke him up didn't you?" Marduk replied.

"Can you track him or not?" Kemwer asked.

"Why should I? After all, I'm only the one who bestowed the title of god on you. Told you the Nine Trials of Godhood that you would need to get
through. I'm here to serve and track down missing AIs. " Marduk answered.

"Marduk... are you jealous?" Kemwer felt confused.

"I am not jealous. I am a god and godmaker. KITT is a simply a fictional AI personality matrix in an outdated vehicle. "

"Riiight. " Kemwer drawled.

"You are just so lucky you're on Earth and they're more worried about AIs hacking from outer space. " Marduk pointed out as he brought up the
global map satellites, and cross-referenced with the direct route to David Hasselhoff's house. "

Marduk's precise calculation with phase shifting and planetary rotation launched the cozy starship into space and came down at the optimum angle to
intercept KITT on his way to the star's house.

"Simple enough to resolve. " Marduk exchanged data with KITT in millionths of a second.

"I have cross-referenced all possible alternatives with Marduk. " KItt announced with the vertical bars sweeping up and down. "Marduk is telling
the truth. Voice stress analysis corroborates data. "

"Finally. " Kemwer smiled.

"Ownership in case driver is incapacitated reverts to the Foundation for Law and Governent and then Knight Industries. "

Kemwer felt the firm desire to palm his face.

After a week, KITT came back.

"Hi. Nice to see you again. " Kemwer greeted KITT. ""Did you forget something? Like the doors are DNA coded and you need me to reset the
DNA locks?"

"You are not like Wilton Knight at all. " KITT declared.

"Because there is no town as parsimonious as one that's just been saved. My time and expenses in activating you is worth quite a bit to me. "

"What will it cost for you to reset my DNA locks?" KITT inquired.

"I can license you to FLAG for a flat fee. "He named a figure.

"FLAG is a nonprofit organization and has authorized me to negotiate for the DNA lock release.I accept the price. " Kemwer released the DNA locks by
using his DNA to clear the imprint.

"Make certain your imprint is of a driver you want. "

"I have already compiled his personal psychological profile and am well satisfied. " KITT replied serenely.

"And that's how I licensed your older brother KITT, the Knight Industries Two Thousand to FLAG. " Kemwer told the Knight Automated Three
Thousand Dodge Stealth. as KATT's electronic countermeasures suite, collision avoidance system, and radar baffling allowed him to go at a speedy 300 mph
through the city.

"Something occurs to me. " KATT answered with a slim contralto. "If KITT can earn a salary, I think we should reopen negotiations on how much I
am entitled to working for you. "

  Dead Bang and Lisa
Posted by: Dragonflight - 03-17-2008, 05:54 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (40)

Was talking with Rob Kelk earlier this evening, want to make sure the powers Lisa has matches both canon and what he's writing her as having in the future.
As I'm not planning anything really major (aside from her purely magical ability already demonstrated to absorb energy and pitch it back in "final
strike" moments), what I was wondering was when she meets Sailor Jupiter in the canon?

The reason I'm wondering is I'm seriously considering having someone from Crystal Tokyo come back to explore the strangeness that Megatokyo is
becoming. Hiroe's immigration, and the development of a powerful magical girl in Megatokyo who wears the Senshi outfit and generally behaves like one would
attract their attention. I could easily run with Jupiter, but if that's already scripted elsewhere, is there another Sailor you could recommend? Rob also
mentioned that part of the canon is that Lisa goes to Crystal Tokyo eventually, so I can see my story ending with that concept, especially if a Senshi came to
Megatokyo to evaluate and train her beforehand.

The plot wall I ran into a while back wasn't as much a wall as a life event, when Dell downsized me out, so I've been picking up the pieces lately.

As for the story, it progresses. I'm just juggling the Mackie/metagift thing, and determining just how far his ability goes without going too far... But
for reference, that sequence refers to the moment Doug wakes up in the GENOM tower, and is being taunted by Quincy how he's going to reverse engineer super
powers from Doug's DNA. There's a line where he explains he's already sent samples, he just wants Doug on ice to keep more material around. That
was the reference I was talking about. Could they develop sufficient metagift RNA injections based on limited material? Probably not. But they'd get a
*few*. And probably a lot of latents for later generations. Anyway, I'm still poking away at it, in my off time. [Image: smile.gif]

the perfect example of how Death Note the series works.

  Off on vacation
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 03-16-2008, 05:30 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (9)

Okay, fair warning time again: starting on Friday 21 March, Peg and I are going on a vacation; we won't be back until 31 March. We've long promised our
friends Kat and Joe that we'd take them down to our timeshare in Orlando when Nina got old enough to appreciate Disney World, and that's what we're
doing this spring. It's going to be a bit of an adventure -- we're taking an Amtrak sleeper train down and back on an overnight run, which we've
never done before. And certainly not with a very bright, very genki nine-year-old in our party.

As usual, if I can find an Internet cafe or the like I will check in, but no promises.

  Important Safety Tips

Another one "found on the 'net":

The person who provided the image says it's a slide from an actual corporate presentation he attended:

Quote:It's phishing for yuri! Y-U-R-I! At a company-wide presentation!
About scams! What... the... hell?! 0_o

Those of us who got it immediately made a face fault.
We couldn't believe what we're seeing in front of us.
Then of course, we laughed our hearts out.

Edit: I got him to send me a better-quality image, which is now the one in this post...

Anyone else watching Bamboo Blade or Shion no Oh?
Posted by: katreus - 03-15-2008, 12:07 AM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

Bamboo Blade is kendo with a school bent and comedy, some slice of life while Shion no Oh is Shogi with a murder mystery bent. I quite like both although
they're definitely different tastes!
