Away and to the westward
Is a place a man should go
Where the fishing's always easy
They've got no ice or snow
But I'll haul down the sail
Where the bays come together
Bide away the days
On the hills of Isle au Haut
Now the Plymouth girls are fine
They put their hearts in your hand
And the Plymouth boys are able
First-class sailors every man
Now, the trouble with old Martin
You don't try her in a trawler
For those bay of Biscay swells
They roll your head from off your shoulder
Away and to the westward
Is a place a man should go
Where the fishing's always easy
They've got no ice or snow
Now the winters drive you crazy
And the fishing's hard and slow
You're a damned fool if you stay
But there's no better place to go

  Several Possibilities
Posted by: Druid - 04-04-2004, 10:44 AM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - Replies (15)

This song could have several effects, because of its wording. It just won't leave me alone, so here it it.
Come with me in the twilight of a summer night for a while
Tell me of a story never ever told in the past
Take me back to the land
Where my yearnings were born
The key to open the door is in your hand
Now fly me there
Fanatics find their heaven in never-ending storming wind
Auguries of destruction be a lullaby for rebirth
Consolations be there
In my dreamland to come
The key to open the door is in your hand
Now take me there
I believe in fantasies invisible to me
In the land of misery I'm searching for the sign
To the door of mystery and dignity
I'm wandering down the secret sun
Come with me in the twilight of a summer night for a while
Tell me of a story never ever told in the past
Take me back to the land
Where my yearnings were born
The key to open the door is in your had
Now take me there
To the land of Twilight
- Yuki Kajura
.hack//sight OST
(Yuki Kajura is also the man beind the Noir soundtrack, and I belive he does beautiful works of music.)
Now this could be a traveling song, or a combination summoning/traveling song. Now what might be summoned, or where you might be going with it, I just couldn't say. Any ideas?

  Song for this Step

Bring Him Home from the musical Les Miserables
God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there
He is young
He's afraid
Let him rest
Heaven blessed.
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.
He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
The summers die
One by one
How soon they fly
On and on
And I am old
And will be gone.
Bring him peace
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy
You can take
You can give
Let him be
Let him live
If I die, let me die
Let him live
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.

Hey, why not?
St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)
(John Parr)
Growing up, you don't see the writing on the wall
Passing by, moving straight ahead, you knew it all
But maybe sometime if you feel the pain
You'll find you're all alone, everything has changed
Play the game, you know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on, only you can do what must be done
You know in some way you're a lot like me
You're just a prisoner and you're tryin' to break free
Chorus:
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazing sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire
woo........
Burning up, don't know just how far that I can go (just how far I go)
Soon be home, only just a few miles down the road
I can make it, I know I can
You broke the boy in me, but you won't break the man
(chorus)
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazing sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire
I can climb the highest mountain, cross the wildest sea
I can feel St. Elmo's Fire burnin' in me, burnin' in me
Just once in his life
A man has his time
And my time is now
I'm coming alive
I can hear the music playin', I can see the banners fly
Feel like you're back again, and hope ridin' high
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire
(chorus)
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazing sky
I'll be where the eagle's flyin' higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire
I can climb the highest mountain, cross the wildest sea
I can feel St. Elmo's Fire burnin' in me
Burnin', burnin' in me, I can feel it burnin'
Oooh, burnin' inside of me... (to fade)

Son of Songs Doug Shouldn't Play
Posted by: ordnance11 - 04-01-2004, 10:40 PM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - Replies (21)

Suicide is Painless by Michael Altman (MASH THEME)

Through early morning fog I see visions of the things to be
The pains that are withheld for me I realize and I can see . . .
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
I try to find a way to make all our little joys relate
Without that ever-present hate but now I know that its too late,
and . . .That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
The game of life is hard to play. Im gonna lose it anyway.
The losing card Ill someday lay so this is all I have to say.
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
The only way to win is cheat and lay it down before Im beat,
and to another give my seat for thats the only painless feat.
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
The sword of time will pierce our skins it doesnt hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in the pain grows stronger . . . watch it grin, but . . .
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
A brave man once requested me to answer questions that are key
'Is it to be or not to be' and I replied 'oh why ask me?'
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
And you can do the same thing if you choose

Now at the very least it will stop everyone with intelligence to stop and ponder whether they should die or not, including Doug. Now what would it do to machine intelligence? Shutdown? Self-destruct?
The worst effect is that everyone would commit suicide..including Doug. I'd probably log it as a last resort song..along with a few others.

  A Mind game song

Bob, you mentioned in another thread that Doug liked to use songs that let him play with the heads of his enemies. Here's a song that might fit in that category.
"Down" - Gravity Kills

  Howard Jones

Some Howard Jones songs that might be useful:
(Lyrics at http://www.lyrics007.com/Howard%20Jones%20Lyrics.html )

Dream into Action
suppress, only against 'bigotry' psych lims
area effect mind control : "do not be divisive"
"Whatever you like to say I'll try to understand
Whatever you do you have the benefit of the doubt
Whatever I do please understand"
possible secondary effect : very basic understanding of others' native languages.

Dig This Well Deep
dig tunnel straight down
area effect mind control : "persevere"
"I'm going to dig this well deep
It's a promise I must keep
I'm going to dig this well deep
'Cos I want to find water
I'm going to dig this well deep
Going to sow before I reap
I'm going to dig this well deep
'Cos I want to find water"
"See it through to a conclusion even if it leads to nowhere
Sometimes there is no solution but the water tastes as good there"

Cross That Line
suppress : "naive" psych lims
mind control : "consider: things may not turn out perfectly"
mind control : "don't waste your chances"
"It's not my fault if you didn't live out your youthful dreams"
...
"Everyone has got to take some responsibility
The grass is rarely bluer, but you wouldn't take it from me
Finding out the hard way can be an endless affair"

Bounce Right Back
There is an extended version of this song that lasts over 8 minutes
? area effect minor regeneration
? area effect Aid to REC
area effect common sense manifests as mental illusion : short guy warns anyone who is about to say something catastrophic
possible side effect : Doug gets a temporary henchman named Luke
"He say yes and I say no
He say what do you mean
I pulled my piece and he pulled his
We stared each other right in the eye
There was a flash like dynamite
And this guy appeared by our side
Well he said button up and tighten your lip
Keep a check on what you say
Those crazy words you fling from your mouth
Are going to bounce back on you some day"

Everlasting Love
This one has a cute video with mummies, still in love after a few millennia.
This song might also kick Doug out of depression from being separated from his wife.
life support : unaging (for the duration of the song, anyway)
area effect mind control : "seek out a lasting relationship instead of a shallow one"
area effect suppress lechery and other psych lims that might directly interfere with forming a healthy relationship
"Is this love worth waiting for
Bitterness will die for sure
Something special, something pure
Is this love worth waiting for"

  ch 7 - Invisible Touch
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 04-01-2004, 06:24 AM - Forum: Drunkard's Walk II: Robot's Rules of Order - Replies (6)

When Doug played 'Invisible Touch' and touched Lisa's forehead, he temporarily granted her TK (and much more, but that's not what I'm puzzled about).
Is this song explicitly supposed to power-up one person that Doug touches on the forehead rather than himself? Is it supposed to power-up any number of people if he traces the rune on their forehead?
Or is there still some lingering effect from his previous use of "I'll Play For You" (Seals & Croft) that allows Doug to grant the power to Lisa instead of himself?
(I LIKE the idea of meta-songs such as "I'll Play For You", but I should take speculation on that subject to "The Game Everyone Loves To Play".)
--Indexfiles aka Index aka J.W. Harris
BTW, Bob, Drunkard's Walk is VERY good fan fiction, and better than many books I've paid for.
