Would Trump go for a short glorious war?
Trump is looking for a curb stomp. Terrorists aren't going to cut it. More likely scenario are the North Koreans. There is enough military justification to do is, but has he considered the fallout?

Are you in Canada? How fast is your internet connection?
Posted by: robkelk - 03-16-2017, 06:51 PM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority wants to know how fast internet connections are across the country, so that they can make some informed recommendations to the government. If you're in Canada, please take part in the study at http://performance.cira.ca/

  Looking for some snipe hunts
Posted by: robkelk - 03-11-2017, 07:17 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (13)

When somebody joins a close-knit group, a reasonably-harmless form of hazing he can get is the "snipe hunt" - the old-timers send the new guy to get something that isn't a thing that can be picked up. For example:

  • At an airfield, point out that an aircraft is dirty and send him for a bucket-full of propeller wash.
  • Aboard ship, tell him to go to the hold and bring back a coil of waterline.

What are the equivalents in other settings?

The man who Trump said "gave away our country to China" is Trump's pick for ambassador to Russia

Those conspiracy theories about Russia running Trump's campaign are looking more and more plausible. Not necessarily true - http://allthetropes.org/wiki/Hanlon's_Razor]Hanlon's Razor applies here - but plausible.

[RFC] Being You is... Redux? (Warning: Spoilers for Tenchi Muyo OVA 4!!!)
Posted by: Black Aeronaut - 03-10-2017, 11:18 AM - Forum: Hangar 13 - Replies (9)

Alright, so for those of you not in the know, the first two episodes of the new OVA for Tenchi Muyo have been released in Japan and have already been fansubbed.
And we're seeing some VERY interesting things.

Really, so far there's been a lot of exposition, but it's perfect - it's all tying up everything we've been seeing in Kajishima-sensei's doujins and light-novels, as well as everything from GXP, and culminating in the wedding of Noboyuki and Reia.

One thing is for sure... Garrick's little throw down with Minaho is gonna become a lot more epic!  And as always, while he may not be as well trained... his bag of dirty tricks will keep her off-balance.

Anyhow, what this ultimately means...  Just as I predicted before (here) I'm going to have to rewrite Bring You Is Suffering.  The biggest changes are going to be Minaho, as well as some of the rest of the Family Politics stuff.  Information in other places is also going to be updated with correct info.

However, all the core stuff is gonna stay the same.  It'll just all be a lot less awkward seeming now.  :p

So, advice?  Things you guys think I could do better this go around?

  Vathara story discussion
Posted by: Matrix Dragon - 03-10-2017, 06:31 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (10)

Continued from here: http://drunkardswalkforums.yuku.com/rep ... ply-141437
I think that part of the reason that this story bugs me is the choice to make Jack the Needs-Exposition Character at the beginning. He's the second in command of Stargate Command, leader of its number one off-world team. Before his sons death, he was a black ops soldier for at least most of the eighties, a field that requires serious smarts to survive. He's been a major player in operations against the rogue NID elements since the beginning. For him to know nothing about the hospital and the SAO players? It doesn't make sense, and it makes him look incompetent. Which isn't an uncommon thing for Vathara and Jack, sadly.

On another much more flattering and amusing note, I do have to laugh at the demonstration of how crossovers can often fix up plot hole problems. The moment you hear the NID and Ancient tech was involved in SAO, every single bit of bullshit about the Nervegears makes perfect sense. Of course it works in ways that should be implausible, it's Ancient tech. Of course something seemingly innocent is actually stupidly dangerous, it's Ancient Tech! (Seriously, those guys probably blew up a solar system trying to make a better lightbulb.) And of course Kayaba was able to sneak his murder tech into the general public, it's the NID, who probably hire Cerberus for contract work Smile
