This is your brain on music

Assuming, of course, that you're Sting.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/sting-bra ... -1.3726947

The article discusses how this could help people become better in their chosen fields. I'm thinking it might also serve as a basis for technobabble for how Doug's metatalent works.

I love the fruits of research
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 08-17-2016, 07:18 PM - Forum: Drunkard's Walk S: Heart of Steel - Replies (5)

Not always the research itself, definitely the fruits.
One of the nagging questions that fan writers will occasionally bring up about Season One of Sailor Moon is, "How, with real estate prices in Tokyo being what they are, does the Dark Kingdom manage to open so many shops so quickly?"
The answer, it turns out, is easily enough found when you go looking.  Japan was in the middle of a nasty recession in 1992.  Just like the recent recession here in the US, businesses closed and property values dropped like a rock.  There would be closed, empty shops all up and down the market district in Azabu-juban.  If the Dark Kingdom is being aboveboard about it, they just have to do a short-term rental of a shop (like those ephemeral Halloween stores that show up in September and are gone by November 1).  And if they're not bothering to be aboveboard, they just break a shop open and move right in, and mind-whammy any real estate agent who comes by and complains.
The sad thing is that it took me until this week to connect the recession to the Dark Kingdom shops.

  [Open]When Fox news comes calling..

Subj: I'm sure you've seen the news from Illinois State by now.

Oh no, not Again... that was my first thought.

But it gets worse. My phone goes off in the middle of the night. The number's one from home, so I answer it without thinking.

"This is Jennifer Feeler from Fox 9 News. How does it feel to know that one of your guns was used to kill 8 people?"

And it hits me in the face like.

I mean...

What the fuck am I supposed to say to that?

I don't even sell full guns to the Danelaw, so I don't know how it got there and now it feels like a whole goddamn country is accusing me of pulling the trigger myself as if that herostrat fuck couldn't have found an armalite in his local gun-store.

Checked with the ATF, I spoke with the agent directly. The serial's in my books, it's registered with the Patrol and it's genuine. I know who bought it and when, and when I tested it. Firmware on the targeter's the original. It's one of mine alright.

I really don't know what to say or do.

No matter what, it'll be the wrong thing, but doing nothing feels so wrong.

Apparently, researchers -- the article doesn't say where -- have found evidence of a flaw in the "Standard Model."  Could this discovery uproot any other certainties?  I'm not sure whether to be excited or horrified....

'Little Maus Two' - By Simon Leo Barber (From 'Eldritch Hop' set in the Tohoe Storyline)Sung to - Little Deuce Coup

"Now, I'm not braggin', babe, so don't put me down    But I've got the hottest set of tracks in town    When some tank face off with me, I don't even try    'Cause unless he's got Chobham Plate, he's gonna DIE    She's my Little Maus Two - you don't know what I got !
Got electromag transmission and a whole lot more    Yard of armour on the glacis and a foot on the floor    Well, she sprints like a greyhound at a hundred tonnes    Got the eighty-eight as spotter for the Naval Gun    She's my Little Maus Two- you don't know what I got !
Then we're coming off the line when the lights turn green    Faster up through twenty gears than a tank's ever been    Now the Tortoise is light, his tracks are startin' to spin    But my Porsche-built suspension's really diggin' in    She's my Little Maus Two - you don't know what I got !
Hitting twenty-second gear, I've got my paw to the floor    Pushing three miles an hour, hear those Maybachs roar    The Tortoise running second, 'cause it's understood    I got a twelve-pack of diesels sittin' under my hood    She's my Little Maus Two - you don't know what I got !"

Bodyguard training montage - Do It for Her (Steven Universe)
Posted by: Jorlem - 08-11-2016, 05:53 PM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - Replies (4)

Quote:Pearl: All right. Everything begins with your stance. Remember:

You do it for him
And you would do it again
You do it for her, that is to say
You'll do it for him.

Keep your stance wide,
Keep your body lowered,
As you're moving forward
Balance is the key

Right foot; left foot,
Now go even faster
And as you're moving backwards
Keep your eyes on me.

[Connie] Keep my stance wide, (Good)
Keep my body lowered, (Right)
As I'm moving forward (Concentrate!)
[Pearl] Don't you want him to live!?

[Connie] Right foot; left foot
[Pearl] Yes, but put your whole body into it!
Everything you have, everything you are
You've got to give–

On the battlefield
When everything is chaos,
And you have nothing but the way you feel, your strategy and a sword;
You just think about the life you'll have together after the war!

And then you do it for her,
That's how you know you can win,
You do it for her, that is to say
You'll do it for him.

Deep down you know
You weren't built for fighting,
But that doesn't mean
You're not prepared to try.

What they don't know
Is your real advantage,
When you live for someone
You're prepared to die.

[Connie] Deep down I know
That I'm just a human (True)
[Connie] But I know that I can draw my sword and fight
(But you know that you can draw your sword and fight)

With my short existence, (Good)
I can make a difference, (Yes, excellent!)
I can be there for him
I can be his knight

I can do it for him,
[Both] You'd do it for her
[Pearl] Okay, now do that again (Yes, ma'am.)
You do it for her, and now you say:
[Connie] I'll do it for him.
I can't see this song having any power other than the purpose it served in the show, being the background for a training montage for a bodyguard.

  I'm Unstoppable today
Posted by: robkelk - 08-05-2016, 09:47 PM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - Replies (1)

I heard this one because the Canadian Women's Soccer team is using it as their unofficial theme for the Rio Olympics.

The meta-ability should be obvious: Juggernaut's "can't be stopped" ability, but thanks to the often-repeated "I'm unstoppable today", it lasts all day. On the flip side, the often-repeated "I'm unstoppable today" means it only affects Doug -- I'll Play for You won't transfer it to anyone else.

Unstoppable, by Sia Furler, written by Sia Furler and Christopher Braide, from the 2016 album This Is Acting:
