...is Disney's new thing, and not just a one- or two-off thing.

Wow.  Emma Watson as an overlooked bookworm who enters a world of magic, and subsequently blossoms?  Talk about a stretch.

  song idea (a little silly)

Normally lyrics like this would provide a luck boost (or possibly divine assistance), but in this case, Doug had watched a certain movie the previous week and his subconscious was feeling silly.
Power: Create a similcrum of a white horse pulling a cart.  The horse has very good speed and stamina and can haul the cart and  several people at top speed for long periods.

  Will Wheaton on PAXSouth...

Okay, can someone tell me what the hell happened at PAXSouth that could cause Will Wheaton to give them a Giant Dick Emoji over Twitter earlier?  I wish I knew, but I never knew about PAXSouth being in San Antonio and happening today.  As it was anyhow, we were slammed and only squeaked by because our boss heard about it in advance and changed up the schedule accordingly.

Former highest-ranking U.S. cardinal blames feminists for pedophile priests and other problems of the Catholic Church.  According to this intellectual giant, since the 1960s feminists have driven all the "manly" candidates away from the priesthood and confused the ones that were left about their sexuality, leading them to involuntarily prey upon young boys.

Riiiiiiiight.

This guy got promoted during Benedict's archconservative papacy, but as soon as he started arguing with Pope Francis he got himself demoted.  And if he keeps giving interviews like that one, maybe he'll demoted even farther...  I wonder if he'd like being an altar boy...

  God stolen in Derry.
Posted by: Dartz - 01-22-2015, 03:16 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (4)

I have to wonder if any of them have heard of the Odyssey. Sea Gods are not things to be trifled with.

Quote:Mystery surrounds the disappearance of a six-foot sculpture of a Celtic sea god from a mountainside.

Manannán Mac Lir, which is made out of fibre glass and stainless steel, was stolen from Binevenagh Mountain near Limavady in County Londonderry.

The statue had became a popular tourist attraction in the area since its installation about a year ago.

Sculptor John Sutton, who has worked on the award-winning Games of Thrones series, has spoken of his shock.

He said it would have taken a number of men with angle grinders several hours to remove the figure from its base.

"I'm very disturbed by this," he said. "It's unreal.

"Some statues are stolen for their bronze. But this was cut down at the base and the materials would not have been worth stealing.

"I made it out of clay first and then a silicone mould, before I cast it. It took me months and months to make and five or six men to carry it up there and install it. It was very heavy and would have taken a long time to remove."

Manannán Mac Lir is a sea deity in Irish mythology and is also said to have been the first ruler of the Isle of Man.

Manand is the old Irish name for the Isle of Man and as his surname suggests, he was the son of Lir, meaning sea.

People in the Limavady area tell of the presence of a sea god in Lough Foyle, County Londonderry, and the widespread practice of making offerings to deities in Celtic times.

Those who made off with the sea god left a wooden cross with the words 'You shall have no other gods before me' in its place.

Mr Sutton's £10,000 creation overlooked Benone Beach, Magilligan, Limavady and Donegal and was part of Limavady's sculpture trail.

"I was very proud of this. It was very popular with photographers," he said.

According to Limavady Borough Council's website, people in the area believe that the spirit of Manannán Mac Lir at Gortmore Viewing Point is released during fierce storms.

Some elderly folk in the area are still heard to remark "Manannán is angry today," when the River Foyle is rough and refer to the angry waves as "Manannán's seahorses."

According to mythology, Manannán had many magical possessions.

He had a horse that could travel over land and sea and owned a metal boat, which obeyed the thoughts of its sailors.

The police said they were investigating a report of a theft of a statue from Bishop Road.

Apparently their server imploded on Saturday morning between 6 and 8, best as I can tell from a couple online "Is That Site Up?" tools.  The site was completely offline at least through Saturday morning.  This morning a very limited read-only version is accessable (redirected to http://www.tthfanfic.net/ to boot), with a banner indicating they had "server hardware failure".  According to their top page this has forced them to move to their new server weeks before they were ready to do so, and they'll basically be rebuilding the site on the new server while it's running.
