  Hardware Question
Posted by: Ebony - 09-05-2014, 10:21 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

So, I just bought a new graphics card... and it's too long to fit in my current tower. Can anyone recommend a tower that fits a Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD5830 1GB DDR5?

Mood Music - What Helps You Write?
Posted by: Black Aeronaut - 09-04-2014, 11:55 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (6)

Pretty much what it says on the tin.
I recently came across this magnificent bit done for an animated short.  It is absolutely gorgeous, evoking desolate Celtic landscapes, and a sense of curiosity and wonder.http://jamesmarkmusic.bandcamp.com/trac ... inal-score
Another one I love - just wish it were a few minutes longer.  This is perfect for that one pivotol moment where everything suddenly changes and the world is seen in a whole other light.
Here's a favorite of mine.  This is excellent stuff for when you're writing that climax made of epic awesome.  It's like the visuals of a Saturn 5 lift-off transcribed into a piano and string quartet.
Generally, I don't like my mood music to have a lot of vocals.  The only exceptions that get a pass are when i am going for something very specific, and in that case I would need a very specific song.

I just got an email from SJ asking what's up with the project, because Kromm didn't know anything when Steve asked him about it.
Huh.
I just sent back an email saying that the writer's guidelines say "inquire, and don't bug us to respond", so I inquired and have been waiting patiently and politely. And have heard nothing until Steve's email.
Hopefully this means I just fell between the cracks and they haven't been ignoring me deliberately...  we might even see some action fast, given that the last time Steve and I talked about this he was hot to have a new IST edition.

Further proof that Neanderthals' brains were as deveveloped as ours
Posted by: robkelk - 09-02-2014, 02:30 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

According to a report in The Register (which cites the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences), http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/09/02 ... n_artists/]Neanderthals created abstract art at least once.

Considering how many world-hopping characters the writers here have, this might conceivably come up in a story...

Teacher Fired for Writing a Book
Posted by: Dartz - 09-01-2014, 12:40 AM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (9)

Okay, so the topic title is a little bit of an eyecatcher worthy of a redtop, but there's something vaguely disturbing about this. A teacher, writing under a pen-name, was discovered to have written a pair of novels dealing with the events surrounding a fictional school-shooting - probably some time before starting work with the school.

And as a result has effectively been fired, banned from government property and otherwise subject to a medical evaluation.

http://www.wboc.com/story/26367051/camb ... tive-leave

This is pretty fucked up, especially considering some of the stories I wrote for Creative Writing class back when I was in school. One of which involved a full blown armed rebellion of the Student body.
