... and the "banality of evil."  Note particularly the lines near the end of the article,

Quote:"It is apparent Milgram assuaged participants' concerns by making them believe in a noxious ideology -- namely, that it is acceptable to do otherwise unconscionable things in the cause of science."
specifically tying in the belief that if it's "For Science!", then torturing a man to death is justified.  Makes even Agatha Heterodyne seem pretty damned creepy.

how employers who had received federal stimulus money gouged workers and taxpayers
Here is one part of the series...

Quote:At one low-income housing project in North
Carolina, two-thirds of the workers hired to pour concrete, paint,
shingle roofs and hang drywall were treated as independent contractors.
Here’s what would have needed to happen with these 100 workers to pass
the federal tests:
  • Each worker could come and go as he pleased, setting his own hours and schedule.
  • Each
worker owned and used his own tools and supplies and had enough of a
line of credit with vendors to buy the necessary materials, such as HVAC
    equipment and siding.
  • Each worker tackled the work as he saw fit, not heeding direction and correction from superiors.
  • Each
worker secured enough compensation to allow him to earn a living and
cover the overhead that a self-employed person must handle.
All 100 of these workers earned from $7.25 to $20 an hour

And no that is not an aberration..it's fairly common in the construction industry. And not just the construction industry. Especially in the south.

  Update
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 09-08-2014, 10:53 PM - Forum: IST 25 Development - Replies (9)

Just got an email from Kromm.  They're interested, but the scale of GURPS products these days is much smaller than back in the 90s, particularly PDFs.  For technical reasons (limits in their PDF software) as well as economic ones, they want smaller works.  48-51 pages was the number mentioned.  Kromm's already gone through the outline and offered advice on streamlining it to act as an "update" to the original IST rather than a stand-alone supplement.
More on this as I review and think on the rather large email I got.

In Ireland, we have a sport called Hurling.
Not to put a fine point on it, but it's basically two teams of fifteen men, each man armed with a heavy ash stick, whalloping a ball made of hard, solid leather around a pitch for 70 minutes. And they started wearing helmets in the last few years. It's been reasonably popular in Ireland for a while.

And recently, it's been exported to the UK by Sky.

The response of the English, is quite amusing. Especially the image of Wayne Rooney.....

See - THIS is a perfect example of why I can never take the Huffington Post seriously as a "News" Site.
When even Keith Olbermann thinks you're insane...
Wait - let me put the proper emphasis on that...
When even KEITH OLBERMANN thinks that Huffpo's choice of a random NFL Linebacker (who killed a man during a DUI 5 years ago and is a 9-11 Truther WACK JOB...) for the position of "Fellow", covering National Security, is absolutely "The Onion" level life-imitating art BATSHIT INSANE.
And he happens to be RIGHT.
You're DOING IT WRONG.
