Glass walls in the base |

Right, so... for the last 15 minutes or so, there's been two quotes going through my head from Babylon 5. Both from Ivanova:
"I know, I know. It's a Russian thing. When we're about to do something
stupid, we like to catalog the full extent of our stupidity for future
reference."
and -
"I can only conclude that I'm paying off karma at a vastly accelerated rate."
You'll recall that in a moment of irrationality, I removed almost all the "glass" surfaces in the base? Well Sofa called me on it over in this thread. And he was right, because that wasn't rational. So I figured, despite all the weirdness with having the Radiation Hazard symbols all over everything, that I'd put the stuff all back. (oh and open up the base editing privileges while I was at it.)
I figured that the devs pay no attention whatsoever to bases, so the bug would never get fixed. I had worked myself up to a pretty righteous (or self-righteous - take your pick) anger over it. I may have even said words to the effect that I'd put real money on that this bug would last until the end of the game.
Well I was wrong.
The glass got fixed... sort of...
Now none of the base options that include symbols have ANY symbols on them. At least that I can see. It's still broken in the sense that you can't create anything with a symbol on it.
![[Image: screenshot_111022-18-13-18.jpg]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v28/Logan_Darklighter/City%20of%20Heroes/The%20Legendary/The%20Legendary%20Base%202010/screenshot_111022-18-13-18.jpg)
But in a way, that's almost a better option that originally having the symbols at all! Now you can create glass walls with no symbols! I don't know if this is going to last forever or not. But it does prove I was wrong about the devs in the sense that they weren't even trying to fix bases.
I'm actually... pretty pleased about this.
(By the way, do any of you recommend a particular cooking method for Crow? Baked? Fried? Sauteed?)

Yes, I Know, The Ads Are Back |

In the last two days, 10/20-10/21, something hit the boards for over 700,000 page views and drained away all the Gold Ad-Free page view credits we had bought and banked at the end of August.
I have submitted a complaint and demand to get the credits back to Yuku support. I will keep folks up to date on what they say.
(Edit: fixed spelling errors caused by being tired and sick last night)

http://www.quantumvibe.com/strip?page=178 Quantum Vibe is the kind of science fiction story I associate with the giants, like Clarke and Asimov, or the dude who's name I forget that did the Trigger and Telzey Amberdon stories. (more on the latter end than the best of Clarke and Asimov, but the day my writing gets compared to the low end of theirs, I'ma do a little dance.) Also, the art is super. The linked page is a pretty good capsule summary without being spoilery.
http://krakowstudios.com/...tte/2010/02/09/20100209/ Spinnerette is a genre-savvy superheroes piece, simultaneously explicitly poking fun at and making use of the Spiderman & Spiderman 2099 origin stories to give a self described "shy nerd-girl" six arms and spider powers (which do not include a spider-sense no matter what she thinks) and then handles the resulting hijinx in a semi-realistic way. (Though I do question the realism of certain of the Naga the White Serpent expy's attributes...) Art is pro-comics level, Marvel Manga style.

I Dreamed of Rain |

My church choir is performing this song for an upcoming service. I honestly prefer the SATB + Piano arrangement by Larry Nickel, but I've linked to the best I could find on YouTube.I Dreamed of Rain by Jan Garrett
Quote:I dreamed of rain, and the rains came,
Soft and easy, sweet and clear;
I dreamed of rain, and the rains came,
And peace spread over the land.
I dreamed of summer and the winds changed,
And the green was easy and the rivers ran clear;
I dreamed of summer and the winds changed,
And peace spread over the land.
And the flowers bloomed in the desert,
And the air is fresh and clear;
I dreamed of rain, and the rains came,
And peace spread over the land.
I dreamed of freedom and the moon rose,
And the way was easy and the path was clear;
I dreamed of freedom and the moon rose,
And peace spread over the land.
And the guardian stars are shining,
And the night is bright and clear;
I dreamed of freedom and the moon rose,
And peace spread over the land.
I dreamed of heaven and the earth sang,
And the sound was easy, the song was clear;
I dreamed of heaven and the earth sang,
And peace spread over the land.
And the ancient pain is forgotten,
And the fathers' debts are clear;
I dreamed of heaven and the earth sang;
Peace spread over the land.
I dreamed of rain, and the rains came;
I dreamed of rain, and the rains came.
Power? Over Doug's entire Area of Effect, it rains. The rainwater has a variety of miraculous properties: it heals injured and sick animal life (which includes most sapient beings), it removes pollution from the air it falls through and the soil and water it flows into, and it promotes ludicrously fast plant growth. The cleansing and healing effects are permanent (in that the pollution or injury doesn't blink back into existence when the song ends), but note that the song doesn't do anything about sources of pollution, sickness, and injury. The song also imposes a cessation of violence for as long as it plays: explosives simply fail to work, firearms fail to fire, and other weapons (including fisticuffs) invariably inexplicably miss.

LF file synchronization solution |

I'm sure there's a simple, easy-to-implement solution to this, but I've been managing more than coding lately so I can't remember what it is...
I want to be able to plug a USB drive into computer #1 running WinXP and have copied to the USB drive only the files that have been added or altered since the last time the drive was plugged in. Files that have been deleted should not be removed from the USB drive. Computer #1 does not run any scripting language.
I want to be able to plug the same drive into computer #2 running WinXP and have copied from the USB drive only the files that have been added or altered since the last time the drive was plugged in. Files that have been deleted should not be removed from computer #2.
What am I looking for?

Details on the new Trial, another that's going into testing for 22, new incarnate powers, some general tweaks and quality of life improvements... oh, and a little thing that's driven the entire player base into a white hot rage of screaming and crying (Except the people I play with regularly for some reason.)
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthre ... ost3945734
Okay, so you don't have to dig through to find the DOOM element, here it is.
Incarnate Rewards
• Behavioral Adjustment Facility will no longer award Empyrean merits to players who have earned their Lore slot.
? That character will thereafter receive 2 Astral Merits for the first daily completion, and 1 Astral in subsequent runs.
• Lambda Sector will no longer award Empyrean merits to players who have earned their Destiny slot.
? That character will thereafter receive 2 Astral Merits for the first daily completion, and 1 Astral in subsequent runs
More then anything else in a long time, this has people screaming they'll QUIT FOREVER, because the devs are EVIL and HATE FUN. This is despite the fact that the difficulty of Keyes is being dialed down, the Underground has been tweaked several times, and there's two more Trials on the way that both offer two emp merits on completion the first time each day, and then another emp merit every time after that. The main reason for the screaming is slightly reasonable, in that it's going to cost emp merits to unlock the new Incarnate power trees, and the cost on Beta is currently 15 merits. But at the same time, using all the trials in the game, that's two days work, a week if you take it easy.
But yeah. DOOM for all. Me, I just want my 'Boot to the Head' Judgement.

hokay, so I got myself a real headscratcher going on here. See all the gory details here on Launchpad: http://answers.launchpad...e/grub2/+question/174986
Seriously, I don't think the memory has got anything to do with it seeing as how Windows doesn't give me that problem and pulling the drive and booting from USB 'resets' things. I think it's really odd in that it doesn't let me boot from any CD at all. Not even my 100% legitimate, store-bought copy of Windows 7.
Thoughts? Right now considering upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10. And if that don't work I'll go back down to 10.04LTS.
