*awaits to hear the crys of doom and gloom*
but one note

Quote:Energy Aura Revamp
The most exciting part of any powers work for me personally is making improvements to existing power sets. So, porting over Energy Aura to Scrappers gave us a really good opportunity to make some changes to the set. The changes we chose to make were intended to make thematic sense and build upon strengths instead of filling intended weak spots. I won't list the lengthy patch notes here, but I will sum them up for you:
  1. Resistance on the set's auto powers were slightly increased and now include endurance drain protection and slow resistance.
  2. Entropy Shield is now Entropic Aura for Scrappers and Brutes. This power is a taunt aura that grants the user a scaling recharge buff based on the number of foes surrounding the user. The Stalker version of the set doesn't have a taunt aura, but it offers a small Recharge bonus.
  3. Repulse for Stalkers has been replaced by Disrupt, a stun aura.
  4. Energy Drain no longer has a healing component, instead it offers a small defense boost per target hit.
  5. Conserve Energy was replaced by Energize, a self Heal that offers a moderate regeneration and endurance cost reduction boost for a short while. This power works identically to the Electric Armor version.
Neph: Wow... I sudenly feel more awesome, Like I can Tank now.
DS: Ahem.
Neph: Oh... right... Seraph's don't tank, we face plant.
DS: Better.

Bike MS: Cape Cod Getaway 2011
Posted by: zojojojo - 07-06-2011, 06:11 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (4)

While this is very much off-topic, I'm going to post it anyway and apologize to Bob if it's not kosher.

On June 26-27th, I rode 150 miles on my bike to http://chaingang.zikzak.us]support research for Multiple Sclerosis. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central New England Chapter will use funds collected from the Great Mass Getaway to not only support research for a cure tomorrow, but also to provide programs which address the needs of people living with MS today. Because we can fight this disease by simply riding a bike, because we have chosen to help thousands of people through a contribution to the MS Bike Tour, we are now getting closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."

What do you get for your dollar? well...
$1500 - $3,000 – Pays for one-year MS College Scholarship
$500 – Cost for a wheelchair co-pay
$350 – Cost of a ramp to get a scooter into van
$200 - Cost for an air conditioner
$150 – Cost of a shower bench and hand-held shower head
$100 – Cost for arm crutches
$50 – Cost for transportation to a medical appointment
$25 – Cost of home health care for 1-2 hours for one person living with MS

You can find more info about the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at %[link=http://www.nationalmssociety.org]http://www.nationalmssociety.org] and the New England chapter specifically at %[link=http://www.msnewengland.org]http://www.msnewengland.org].

I set myself a (mostly arbitrary) goal of raising $1,500 for this ride (which I have already met, but if I reach $3,000 I get a set of steak knives!), and every little bit gets me that much closer. Please sponsor my ride and help us find a cure for MS.

PS. Bob - if you don't want this on your forums, I'll understand and take it down.

Thanks,

  BIG Yamato/Star Blazers News!
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 07-06-2011, 04:56 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (9)

Well now this is interesting!

Quote:(From Tim Eldred: 7-4-11)

"Makoto Kobayashi, mecha designer of Yamato Resurrection and occasional
employee of Enagio Studio announced at the closing ceremonies of Anime Expo
that he is currently contributing to a remake of Star Blazers! (He actually
meant Space Battleship Yamato but used the English title for the benefit of
the American audience.)
"This confirms what we learned last December in
Tokyo for Yamatour 2010. At our farewell dinner with the staff of Yamato
Party, we were told that they had seen pre-production art for a new TV series
that would remake the original. Story development had been underway for quite
a while, scripts were written, and designs were being worked on. These are
the pickiest Yamato fans on Earth, and they were very impressed by what they
saw.
"In fact, I saw some of the mecha designs myself by accident; I
purchased several collections of model sheets from Yamato Resurrection last
year, and a few dozen images from the new series somehow slipped in. They're
mostly Yamato interiors,
reimagined with new technology. The exterior of the
ship is largely unchanged and has already been seen by many; we were told
that the 1/500 Bandai model kit released in December is essentially the new
TV version. The designs that fell into my hands also included fighter craft
and a few pages of Gamilas ships. There were also some text documents with
very early concept notes about important points to be developed.
"The
most critical data has not yet been announced: when and how it will
debut. Kobayashi's announcement merely confirms that he is working on the
project for next year. No other details are available, but I'll keep
watching."

I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. Not least of which because it's Kobayashi in such a central role of the production. In case that name doesn't ring a bell - he was one of the prime movers behind the Giant Robo OVAs in the 90s. He's done several designs for mobile suits from Gundam. The Dragon's Heaven OVA in the late 80s was his. He did concept art for Steamboy. Worked on Armored Core: For Answer, was a concept and design artist for Venus Wars. List goes on and on. Mostly I think this is good news because I've seen several interviews with the guy and when he talks about Yamato, the dude just lights up. He's a hardcore fan. If this is done with anything like the respect to the source material that the Yamato Playstation games were (another Yamato project he also had a hand in) then this will go well.

This is being reported elsewhere I'm sure. But Tim Eldred is about as solid a source on the other little details as you could ask for. He's the web designer and effectively the front man for Voyager Productions - the company that holds the rights to and distributes Star Blazers in North America. He's got "the inside line" as it were.

GURPS IST LA, One Note and the Denver GURPS group.
Posted by: Mark Skarr - 07-05-2011, 11:06 PM - Forum: IST/Supers - Replies (33)

Bob, would you be okay with me making my GURPS IST One Note folder publically available?  I have links in it to both your extended IST timeline as well as the front page of Access Denied.  Also, I have a link to the e23 page for GURPS IST.
If you'd like, I can shoot you a link while it's still restricted so you can take a look at it.  If you've got Windows 7, you don't need Office 2010 to view it, you can view it in your browser.

  How rich are the Fen?
Posted by: Cobalt Greywalker - 07-03-2011, 07:07 PM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (11)

This is one of those questions that's been bugging me for a while. It has little story value (Fenspace economics being vastly different from the 'Danelaw), but it could seem interesting from a Fen-Dane interaction perspective.

I initially was thinking more about real estate (or equivalent of) prices, so I went and worked out how much 'land' Ki had. Using what I believe were conservative estimates, I got a figure of 3389 acres for Ki alone (I can share my workings if anyone wants), which is about 2561 American or 1920 Association (Soccer) football fields[1].

Obviously this wasn't quite what I expected.

Next I tried finding some estimates for Asteroid values. Again this wasn't quite what I expected, given the values bandied about. We're talking trillions of dollars for a stereotypical 1km asteroid in materials alone (I'm assuming a metallic asteroid). Eeep.

In terms of personal wealth, I've already given A.C. a value of about AS$6.5 million as of April 2013 in Journeys through tarnished dreams, but that was before things like Cybertech medical trials finishing and civilian wrist-com licensing and other things.

This leaves me stumped as to actual values. Sure I can say A.C.'s very rich and most everyone will agree, but I'd like to know roughly how much.

Any ideas?

[1] Actually a little over in both cases.

  A Interesting Fic Idea
Posted by: dark seraph - 07-03-2011, 05:01 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (17)

After looking at a lot of the Stuff for Fate/Stay Night, I liked the idea of some of the Classes and such, so my Muse started coming up with a potential idea for the Epic Heroes.
then I though, why have all the fun to my self? Who would you have in your Grail Tourney, what class would they be and their noble phantasm? and remember, cuz it's Type Moon, we can swap a gender or two (In one game Saber and Rider are Emperor Nero and Francis Drake, both women. Tongue )
Here's what I came up with, will try and get around to writing for them, it's an interesting cast.
Saber: Jone de Arc
Archer: Ned Kelly
Rider: Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel
Caster: Rasputin
Berserker: William Wallace
Assassin: Jackelyn the Ripper (needed at least one gender bent toon and some theory's said it was a woman Tongue )
Lancer: Vlad the Impaler
Noble Phantasims will be posted when I do a bit more reserch on them, but till then, throw your ideas in, be interesting to see what you can come up with.

  So, I'm watching Eva again
Posted by: Dartz - 07-02-2011, 02:37 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (4)

It's been a while, and since I was scratching away at my fic, I thought I'd re-watch the series a little.

First, I'm sort of astounded by how old the animation actually looks. It really does look like it dates back to 1995. I can see the individual colours in the background, the different shades of paint they used, that sort of matte flatness that comes from paint on paper. It's exciting to see in a modern world of digital ink, evidence of actual human beings working on something. It's a very physical and visceral sensation, kind of like the light crackle of a needle touching a record for the first time. It's a human work, about characters who are human beings and not animé archetypes.

From a colourful OP that grabs your attention with a catchy pop-song, without falling into the trap of squeaky over-cute bubble-pop . The first episode sort of feels like a mix between a classic kaiju film with all the military getting swatted away by the big unstoppable monster , and then into Thunderbirds with the readying of Unit 01 for launch. Everything's very tight and controlled, while Rebuild goes the 'Ooh Shiny' route far more, the original series feels much tighter focusing on what's important.

I'm not really sure whether it's worth a full topic or not, but I forgot how fascinating this series is to actually watch. It still looks and feels so different. It's still so exciting to watch. And the dub ain't half bad. I'm just glad I saw down and watched it.

And Service! Service! Service!

Okay, I thought Sarah Palin was a fluke with her version of Paul Revere.  Now you have Michelle Bachman and her take on American history

What is it with these people?  I realize the last president who was a scholar and educator was probably Woodrow Wilson. I do expect a putative POTUS to have at least have a grasp of history that a high schooler would have. What is even more disturbing is that they stand by their statements..even in face of the evidence. At least correct their mistakes. Is it a case of anti-intellectualism bias. I do realize there is a strain of American bias against "weisenheimers" and "eggheads".  Then again, this is the land that came out with "Beavis and Butthead"  and "Dumb and Dumber", so maybe I should not be surpised by this.
