Specifically, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya in In Nomine

Okay, so Haruhi's a god, if not God. That's practically a given. So crossing her over with IN seems like a reasonable idea, right? Not so fast, young Reliever.

In the support webforum for In Nomine, there's currently http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=64634]a thread about renaming the band of demons called Djinn (so as to avoid conflict with the middle-eastern spirits of the same name). The current front-runner is the Greek word for "hounds", which is related linguistically to "cynic" - both meanings suit the band well. This term is "Kynoi", or in the singular... "Kyon".

This would explain much...

  Seen at Anime North
Posted by: robkelk - 06-09-2010, 02:01 PM - Forum: Anime Music Videos - No Replies

Not by me, alas - I had to work that weekend - but by a friend. I haven't seen these yet. However, I trust said friend's judgment regarding music. (I don't always agree with it, but I trust it...) All links are to animemusicvideos.org.

Quoting from his con report:

Quote:I've missed a good lot of the main masquerade thanks to these things running behind time, so I decide to chuck the rest of it in and go to the AMV creators and judges party instead. When I get there, all the pizza has been inhaled (s'allright, not really hungry) and only chips and diet cola are left. I grab these things, settle in, reintroduce myself to Todd Serge of Corndog Vidvids and tell him the story about the Asian loligoth girl at my music panel last year reacting to his Chobits/Masonna AMV (for those who haven't read it, the volume was louder than I expected, and she leaned forward with her hands clamped over her ears, and smiled at the same time; very memorable). He was greatly amused to hear about it. Here it is again; turn your volume down, because this is louder than hell and about as easy to listen to:

(requires free membership to download)
The crew have a laptop and projector to show off several odd AMVs for each others' edification, so I get out pen and paper and take down some rough titles when I'm not pitching in the occasional heckle. I ask Todd for these files, and he just takes my list, writes down the correct titles of most of the vids, adds a few more and recommends that I get them off of animemusicvideos.org. Here's a list of some of those, with links. I warn you that some of these may cause brain damage if your brain is susceptible to that sort of thing. If it's a bit late for that already, then you might as well finish the job.

Floating Through the Veins (a nice NSFW cross between Azumanga Daioh and the 18+-rated Mezzo Forte OVAs):

Snap of Doom (a nicely sick spin on Utawarerumono):

Woolongs for Nothing (Cowboy Bebop meets a classic 80's music video):
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=142999

Daydream (a self-made 3D Yotsuba from Yotsuba&! meets Azumanga Daioh, and thoroughly weirds it out):
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=142565

AMV is over: This is Shaking Computer Music Part 3 (One of the Ghiblies covers the infamous self-described "Japanese ultra shit band" the Gerogerigegege covering the Rolling Stones...in molten lead):
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=130908

MSTRB80s - (Or Iron Chef Idol2 80s Flashback) (Several AMV creators karaoke 80's hits and then Iron Chef-edit anime over the results. Contains alcohol--which is good advice before watching this):
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=102574

Cheers, enjoy, I am not legally liable for any damages you may incur, etc. This wraps up before I have to get to the second panel I'm hosting, so I'm off out again.

  Todays patch...
Posted by: Star Ranger4 - 06-08-2010, 10:57 PM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (9)

apparently restored the Braided Buns hairstyle from the MA pack that has been missing for a bit according to the patch notes I've been reading while waiting for the update to install.  And they've turned down the resistance on the green eggs of Hami in LGTF from some obsenely high number (over 50-ish iirc) to 10.
I know someone mentioned being at least slightly miffed about that, so I thought I'd mention it.

Enemies of All Mankind - Addendum
Posted by: DHBirr - 06-08-2010, 09:04 PM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (9)

I'm sure most of us recall the "Enemies of All Mankind" listing of anime figures.  I just thought I should let everyone know I created a new entry for Yuuki Rito of To LOVE-ru (and isn't it about time someone created one for Ezekiel Darkwood?):
To-LOVE-ru
Yuuki Rito
Slept with the Princess of the Galaxy, one of her younger sisters, and his own little sister.  Has repeatedly groped no less than seven schoolmates, including a shape-shifting transsexual, as well as the school doctor, the princess's other sister, and one of the universe's deadliest assassins.  Sometimes turns into a girl.  Approach with great caution, the assassin is now his bodyguard, the princess is even more powerful, and her father approves of this pervert and can personally destroy worlds.

  Serendipity Strikes
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 06-08-2010, 02:29 PM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

While viewing the "serenading unicorn" video linked today in the "Today's Music Moment" thread, I stumbled across this... and I do say, it looks like it has potential.
(I've tried through several edits to get these to appear on separate lines, with some text after, but Yuku seems intent on forcing this layout. Just know that the left hand player is the short teaser trailer, and the right hand one is the full-length second trailer.)

Slacktivist (of Left Behind reading fame)
Posted by: Jinx999 - 06-08-2010, 02:29 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - No Replies

I've been following Slacktivist's Left Behind analysis blog. It's a good tearing apart of bad writing and worse theology. One thing I have noticed, though is that he's an absolutest and regards any political opposition as illegitimate. He doesn't seem to grasp that someone can disagree with your political positions for good reasons. He's also mentioned that he was brought up an evangelical Christian. I suspect that although he has changed his personal views, he still has the same intellectual framework. Does anyone else here follow his blog? Can anyone comment on my theory?

  Revolutionary Girl Utena, the Movie
Posted by: Jorlem - 06-08-2010, 08:31 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (10)

The Revolutionary Girl Utena movie is up on rightstuf's daily deals page today, and I was wondering if it was worth it. I've heard good things about Utena, but I think that was the tv series, not the movie. Any suggestions?
