Welcome to the Build forum! before you post, here's some important guidelines for getting the most bang for your byte.

MIDS!

Mids Hero Designer is the gateway drug to numbers geekitude, and an extremely hand way to play around with slots and settings. It is the Gold
Standard for build advice.

  • Free

  • For use here, please use the 'corruption resistant' format for exporting your datablock. This option appears in the 'export' window.

  • to set Enhancement level, right-click it, then type the level.

You
  • Post a 'bit' about your toon, not just a bare Mids export. Build is influenced by concept as much as anything

  • Include any problems you are having. This can be simple as 'needs to hit harder', or as complicated as you wish

  • Include your wants for the build. 'Higher Performance' is not a useful statement. 'I want to be able to hit harder, and stop burning END like
it's water' will send me and my co-geeks into a flurry of comparing set bonusses and strategies.

  • Include budget or level restrictions. An 'unlimited' price build for a level 50 is going to be completely different from a 10 mil budget build
    for a level 35.

  • Don't be afraid to contribute! this is YOUR toon, after all!

Pain Dom + Shield powers (& shield costume screenies)
Posted by: Acyl - 10-09-2008, 03:44 PM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (13)

The Training Room server was accessible briefly today, allowing people to enter the character creator. Lighthouse has confirmed that it is
okay
to spread information about the new powersets, and post screenshots from the creator. Thusly...

Screenshots of
shield costume options from forum user Firethorn

Also, here's power lists for the two new sets. Original text typed up by forum user PlasmaStream. I've made some edits for accuracy, though I'm
not sure on Pain Domination; in particular I don't know the recharge times for most of the powers and can't confirm this since the training room is no
longer accessible as I post this.

Shield Defense (for Scrappers/Tanks/Brutes - note, cannot be used with Claws, Katana, Dual Blades, Spines)

Deflection: Your mastery of the shield allows you to easily deflect melee attacks, and attacks that do get through your iron clad defenses
tend to do less damage. While Active Defense is active the user will gain defense to Melee attacks and some minor resistance to lethal and smashing damage.
Recharge: Fast

Battle Agility: Your incredible reflexes allows you to position your shield to deflect incoming ranged damage. While deflection is active
you will benefit from increased ranged and aoe defense as well as some moderate protection from Defense debuffs. Recharge: Fast.

Phalanx Fighting: Fighting near your allies allows you to deflect attacks much easier. You will gain a small bonus to your melee, ranged
and area of effect defense this bonus grows for each ally near you. This power is always on and costs no endurance.

Active Defense: When you activate this power it grants you protection from Sleep, Disorient, Fear, Immobilize, Confusion, Repel, Knockback,
Hold and Defense Debuff effects for a short duration. Recharge: Very long

Against All Odds: The harder pressed you are in combat the greater your offensive abilities become. Each enemy that stands toe to toe with
you in combat will grant you a damage bonus. THe first foe you engage in melee grants the highest damage bonus, and up to 10 foes can contribute to this
effect. Each foe in melee also suffer from reduced damage as your sheild deflects a portion of their damage. Recharge: Slow

Grant Cover: You are able to use your shield to defend nearby allies. Any teammates who remain nearby gain a bonus to their defense. (NOTE:
The defense bonus from this power is only applied to nearby team mates, but not yourself.) Recharge: Slow

Shield Charge: You can throw all of your might behind your shield and charge through ranks of foes in the blink of an eye. Using this power
allows you to teleport to a selected area to deal significant smashing damage to all foes in a long cone in front of you, most foes that are struck by your
shield charge will be knocked down. Damage: Superior Recharge: Very Long

True Grit: Your intense training has left you tougher than even the hardiest of heroes. You gain additional hit points and resistance to
fire, cold, energy, negative energy, and toxic damage sources. This power is always on and costs no endurance.

One with the Shield: When you activate this power, you gain strong resistance against most types of damage and also to Disorient,
Immobilization, Hold, Knockback, Repel and Sleep effects. One with the Shield costs little endurance to activate and increases your recovery and maximum hit
points for its duration, but when it wears off you are left exhausted, and substantially drained of endurance. Note:That One with the Shield is unaffected by
Attack Rate changes. Recharge: Very long

Pain Domination (for Masterminds/Corruptors)

Nullify Pain: Nullify Pain will heal nearby Allies for some hit points by numbing the pain caused by their wounds. Nullify pain is not as
potent as Sooth, but can heal multiple targets at once. Recharge: Moderate

Soothe: You heal an ally by numbing their pain and calming their mind. You cannot use this power on yourself.

Share Pain: Share pain draws away some of an ally's anguish caused by their wounds, but damages the user. The pain caused by this power
causes the user to go into a frenzy, briefly increasing their damage output.

Conduit of Pain: You revive a fallen ally by becoming a conduit of pain and transferring the pain that was inflicted upon them back upon
your enemies. This will briefly empower you increasing your damage output, recovery rate, attack rate and chance to hit. After a minute the effect will wear
off leaving you weakened for 30 seconds. Your damage, attack rate and chance to hit will all be reduced during this period. Recharge: Very Long

Enforced Morale: Frees an ally from any disorient hold, sleep, fear, confuse and immobilize effects and leaves them resistant to such
effects for a good while. Also, grants the target clearer perception to see hidden foes and minor recharge and movement speed boost. Protection and Movement
boost will improve with multiple applications and as you advance in level, although the recharge and movement boost will only apply for the first few
applications. If the ally is not damaged, Enforced Morale will cause them some... (metanote: Castle confirms that "The beatings will continue until morale
improves.")

Soothing Aura: While this power is active all nearby allies will be healed by Soothing Aura every couple of seconds for a small portion of
their health.

World of Pain: When this power is activated the user and all nearby team members will gain a moderate damage, resistance and to hit bonus.
Additionally those affected by this power will have their resistance to placate effects improved.

Anguishing Cry: You let out an Anguishing Cry causing a great deal of pain in your foes reducing their resistance and defense to damage for
a short time.

Painbringer: You transform an ally to pain incarnate turning them into an inexhaustible killing machine. While the character is imbued with
this power they will benefit from incredible health regeneration, endurance recovery and improved damage potential for a short time.

My initial thoughts:-

Shield looks damn interesting, with some pretty innovative mechanics that should make it a blast to play. There's some very very VERY interesting team
defense mechanics in place, plus the fact it's a defense set with an offensive teleport attack. For the first time, I'm actually excited about playing
a tank. On sheer visuals, some of the shield costume pieces are just overflowing with pure concentrated awesome, particularly the Talsorian Shield. I'm
kinda considering making a Broadsword/Shield Scrapper JUST SO I can run around with glowing blade and force-shield. Or can you imagine an Elec Melee/Shield
brute? You'd have TWO CRAKA-BOOM teleports! TWO!

Pain Domination sounds pretty fascinating as well. It's bound to cause a lot of people to complain, because it doesn't quite have the regeneration and
recovery buffs people wanted from Empathy. On the other hand it does have its own versions of Clear Mind and Adrenaline Boost. I'm kinda amused by the
little features of this set, and might roll a new Corruptor just to play with it. Sounds pretty nifty. It's like Empathy, but most definitely ain't.
Soothing Aura also sounds like an interesting new mechanic. Possibly QUITE ANNOYING a mechanic, if it's gonna constantly generate green floating numbers,
but a regularly pulsing autoheal toggle sounds pretty different. You know all those crap Emps who put heals on autofire? Well, now it's legitimised! =D

  Cyberman 8
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 10-09-2008, 03:39 PM - Forum: Build Advice - Replies (9)

Okay, here's Cyberman 8's build, from the Mids. I think I've got everything covered here. Obviously couldn't include the Veteran powers or the prestige stuff. (He actually has a Celerity: Stealth in one of the Prestige Sprints).
Going by memory, I know that I concentrated as much as I could in the early levels on building his defense, but that there were some odd side trips. (Mainly due to needing to take the health pool.)
In looking at this, I'm tempted on a respec to consider getting Laser Eyes rather than Focus Chi. What do you think?
Other than that - don't think he needs much changing for PVE. He's still a work-in-progress even at this late date. (Note the Franken-slotting where the Hecatomb slots have started to take over) and I still want to get his defense stacked even higher.
If you've got some advice for a "pure" PVP build. Lay it on me. What with Dual-builds coming, I can afford to sacrifice some concept on pure survival.

Someone's translating it and it sounds really good, and in a feel-good way. To quote:

The heart of the game is in the flow of Connections to Wonder and Feelings. You set up Connections to the town and to each of the other PCs before you start a
story. A connection has a Strength (a number from 1 to 5) and Contents (what kind of bond it is; Admiration, Affection, Rivalry, etc.), and connections go two
ways. One character's connection towards another has a Strength and Contents separate from the partner's connection back at them.

When was the last time an RPG depended on Wonder and Feelings? Edit: stupid Yuku.

Eva Test Render - updated with Classic Magic Girl look (for Eva at any rate...)
Posted by: Rev Dark - 10-09-2008, 02:47 AM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (10)

Here is Eva in a test outfit (Cheerleader - it is appropos.)

It is likely that I will not be able to handle her current COH outfits. Which is okay, because the Halloween issue will have her dressing up another
way.

Bob, would you mind if I tried my hand at doing a non-canon outfit, inspired by her COH outfits and keeping with the Magical Girl genre?

(The cold weather contures are part of the cheerleader outfit, sorry I could not remove them short of dropping the image into PSP - and it is only a
sketch.)

  Under the radar noticing

So, I just started reading this(years behind the curve, that's me. =P), but I figured I should finally get around to it. I mean, I have it on several
reliable sources that it's good, no?

Anyway, while reading this and discussing BGC in general with Spud(2032, 2040, Crash, and all the rest in this particular), I noticed something that made me
double take:

Quote: "Dis is shit," Roy spat. "I'm in da band because we's good,

dammit, we's good. We's good enough ta get rich doin' dis

shit, and we'd be goin' sum'ere and gettin' rich if she would

let us! Why? She coulda gone solo t'ree years ago! Dat agent

dumped us and almost made her an idol singer! But she came back

to da Reps! Why?"

Now, I'm fond of a certain villain by the name of Largo, but I'd gotten the heads up that
he wasn't part of this. No big deal, Quincy and Madigan are underutilized anyway. However, the boy is a plot tumor if you just try to ignore him.

However, for those few...."privileged" people that
got to see or heard of Bubblegum Crash, thereupon Largo made his expected comeback(what, you thought Leon's
handgun could take him out? Not a chance) and was promptly reduced to vapor in the final battle with Sylia. End of story. Another plot point introduced in
Crash is that of Priss's travails with her agent, who's trying to make her an idol singer. It doesn't
work out, obviously. The rest of Crash's....quality...is up for debate, but there were some good points, and the
above portion of dialogue could(assuming it's intentional) reference the work, eliminate Largo satisfactorily without leaving gaping plot holes, and do
it all without breaking out the exposition monologue. All in all, very, very slick.

Or it could be a total accident, in which case, hey, serendipity. =D

MicroHue suggested me picking up Hero Planner a few days ago. So I did. It looks a lot like the one I had three years ago. But, then, as is now, I've not got much of a clue as to how to 'build' a hero properly. If anyone would take it upon themselves to aid me in this, I would be most appreciative.

"What part of 'No' don't you understand, Marsden?" Colonel Stephen Caldwell, USAF, commander of Space Station Benjamin Franklin, had already been working up a fine head of steam before I set foot in his office that morning. Apparently there was some sort of snit-fit going on in Washington over the latest exploits of the Stingray crew and Caldwell was catching flack over it. Which made my request, respectfully though it may have been made, just one more straw piled on that there camel's back.
"The part where you tell me I can't have what I've offered half again the market price for, I think it was," I snarked back. Bad idea.
"The market price of fucking scrap metal, sure!" he roared, waving a hand to indicate the station around us. "You've got plenty of scrap aluminum and iron, Marsden, what the hell do you want with a bunch of F-14's?"
I politely refrained from pointing out that I was actually offering about five times the price of scrap metal. It was more like half again what it would cost the Navy to preserve the birds in question. Instead, I tried what I was actually doing. "It's all about the 'wave, Steve. These birds remember being fighters. Doing turns and burns, watching the skies, having fire in their bellies. New frames, even if I could get -117's, just wouldn't have that. And with what's going on out here I don't want to be standing around holding my ass when the Black Hats come for me."
His face was getting red at that. If I'd been worried Mount Caldwell was about to erupt before, I was already backing away, now. "Why don't you make like your buddies and build a bunch of X-Wings or something, then?" he demanded.
The US military's never liked the idea that there were random lunatics like us running around with more firepower than a tank platoon. On the other hand, it did bring us to the meat of my problem. "For what I want to do? Colonel, the F-14 Tomcat is the best goddamn plane on the planet." And now we segue into the old AirForce/Navy rivalry, I thought, getting ready to make my real pitch. He'd always had a soft spot for the show I was thinking about, and once I got to the right point in his rant...
"... and for that matter, why don't you use a proper Air Force frame for it? The F-15's the best fighter ever built."
"Yes, and they're still in active service. Washington would kill me if I walked off with any. The Tomcats, on the other hand, are bleaching in the Boneyard. Who would you rather take them, me, or Iranians looking for spare parts for the few that they have left?" Iranians being rather high on the President's shit-list at the moment, that ought to weigh a little in my favor.
"So just what are you making that you need F-14's for the frame, anyway?"
He was almost calm now. Damn. "This," I said, and a wave of my hand over my PDA swept a pair of files into his workstation's secure inbox. I waited the requisite few seconds while his anti-virus scanner decided if they were safe to open, and then watched his face as he looked them over. "In my opinion, the VF-1S is the, period, single best spaceborne fighter craft ever designed. And the coolest, which when we're talking Goop counts for a hell of a lot. Rei did most of the work on the design -- she's our expert on humanoid robotic systems -- but we need the basic frame to be something that knows what it's meant to be."
"Hrm," he mused, rubbing his chin as he looked over the plans. "It's a good design, alright. What do you think we'd get if we tried it with a -15, though?"
"We're not sure right now, but I'm thinking VA-6 Alpha. Decent interceptor, good ground-support airframe... make a heck of a convoy escort. If we could get Eagle airframes. Or if you wanted to do the hack yourselves."
He shook his head at that. The official Washington attitude towards Handwavium was still rather... untrusting. That was what the TSAB was all about, after all, and a reason why I'd backed them so heavily getting started up here. "Maybe, maybe," he finally said. "In the meantime..." He paused for a moment, then I heard a 'ping' as a file settled into my PDA's inbox. "Be discreet."
Which is how I, at least one Rei, and a couple of dozen Rockhounds with flight experience wound up hovering Sleipner over Tuscon, AZ, at oh-dark-hundred one fine February morning. When all Hell broke loose.

  Blaze Sabre Blank Slate!
Posted by: Sofaspud - 10-08-2008, 07:44 PM - Forum: Build Advice - Replies (7)

Okay. I've just launched Blaze Sabre, a Fire/Fire Blaster. I'd like to make her my first actual Blapper. I've played Blasters before, and have a
decent idea of how to make them work; I've played Scrappers, which seems to me like putting the game on easy mode almost. How best to combine the two?

So here's a chance! I'm not looking for full builds, but general advice. If you -want- to do a full build, feel free, but bear in mind she just hit
level 6... so it'll be a while. *grin*
