| Return Of The Book Recommendation Thread! |

It's coming up to Christmas, and I'm wondering which new books to either purchase for others or put on my own Christmas list, so please tell us some ideas of your own. Two from me
Soon I Will Be Invincible - Austin Grossman: See the thread of the same name for people's opinions, including mine,
Resident Evil, The Umbrella Conspiracy - S.D. Perry: A paperback novelization of the first resident evil game. As someone who loves the idea and storyline of the Resident Evil series, but who quite bluntly blows at that kind of gameplay, the Resident Evil series always held a particular kind of frustration for me, in that i was always intrigued by them but found them to difficult to play. So when I saw a novelization of the series in my local book shop, I brought into it pretty quickly, and I'm glad I did. Whilst these aren't incredibly good I found them competent at least, and for the most part very enjoyable, The first in particular. I love the dynamic between the S.T.A.R.S team, and way thing seem to so legitimately spiral out of control, as well as the sense of isolation and helplessness she conveys in the team. And the characterization as well, such as the brilliant and capable Captain Wesker's slowly escalating egomania and sinister agenda, and Barry's agonizing choice between his family and his friends, plus a lot of Jill's back story, particularly about the two girls who befriended her when she moved into Raccoon and how she now feels driven to avenge their murders by the supposed, 'cannibal cult'.
There are roughly Seven books in the series so far (including some original stories using the game characters, most often Rebbecca Chambers), with more apparently on the way. I'm personally looking forward to seeing if she does Resi4, the one game in the series I could actually play.
So what kind of books do you recommend?

in the latest chapter of the rather awesome fanfic Shinji And Warhammer 40k, the author brings us a question, which I quote below.
Quote: Shinji did three things in this chapter, but one pretty much fraks Gendo's plans now and forever. Which one do you think that is?
Personally, I think it's giving the books to Rei, but I'm curious as to what you fine folks think.
Also, I can only see two things that Shinji did in this chapter..
1) Give the books (or The Books) to Rei
2) Obtain weapons for EVA.Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979

A vauge attempt to drag the gender identity in MMO comments (which I am interested in) out of the teamspeak/ventrilo thread..
CoH seems a lot less biased as towards gender than many other MMOs I've played - but I think a lot of that is due to the availability of more conservative/modest fashion choices for female toons.. Quote: Caine reached into his inside jacket pocket and pulled out a
pair of dataglasses, unfolding them. He regarded them thoughtfully for
a moment before glancing sidelong at Gryphon again.
Then, slipping the glasses on, he remarked, "Sometimes rules
change, Benjamin."

Inspired by a "Crossover that shouldn't be" that I'm going to be putting in the thread of the same name in a couple minutes, I'm offering a fun little challenge.
Alter the name of any TV show, movie or book by one letter, and then write up something akin to a TV Guide entry for the resulting work.
Example:
Zeroes. This six-part miniseries examines the vital role the symbol for "nothing" plays in our economic and cultural history.

I just started up my new Vista box.... Kinda MEH atm but I haven't gotten around to customizing it yet.
Heck I haven't even Firefoxed it yet...
I know my current plans include CoH, Firefox, OpenOffice, and my freebie Graphics programs with my tablet.
I may be able to tolerate a week without my goodies until the Geek Squad Guy comes in to help us port over from the old box...
But Firefox and OpenOffice are REQUIRED so my folks don't freak out any more than usual at the sheer NEWNESS of Vista.

So, lately I've been playing GuildWars, a nice little game, I needed some fantasy in my life after all that Hero stuff.
Anyway, I've had occasion to use TeamSpeak. It's a lovely little thing and it makes teaming ever so much easier when you can actually talk to someone in Realtime, no pauses for typing. Is this something we should look into? My understanding is that it's free. I could be wrong. But I know it costs less than Ventrillo.
That doesn't mean that we need to RP in Teamspeak. That would just be bizarre . I'm sure I sound much to female to ever sound like one of the male Mac Hines. But for all that other chatter, and especially for teaming, would it be useful?

Dunno if this would be a *power* song, but I can *really* see some Loon-fan making up a Doug-centric (Doug 'shipping, perhaps) "AMV" out of it using newsreel footage and machinima scenes from the Warriors video game(s) (C'mon, there *have* to be some in Warrior's World). I mean, the *title* just fits Doug *so* well.
Plus, it rocks hard, which is always good.
Possible power: Doug takes direct control of every radio device within AOE -- "Welcome to WLUN, rockin' and reelin' and HANGIN' FROM THE CELIN'!!!!!"
