Can Trump take credit for the Green New Deal?
Posted by: robkelk - 02-19-2019, 09:02 AM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - No Replies

I thought for a while about posting this one, because the article itself isn't up to my usual standards of objectivity. However, the base premise appears sound.

CBC Analysis: Why Trump can take credit for his opponents' Green New Deal

tl;dr: By abandoning this issue (and apparently denying that it exists), Trump "has handed the Democrats carte blanche on the issue". (The article makes its point, then goes on to talk as if the Democrats being elected in 2020 is a done deal.)

French fencing body recognizes lightsaber dueling as a sport.

Yes.  The Federation approves of Light Sabers.

Short passwords are vulnerable - and by short, we mean 8-characters

The Register: Use an 8-char Windows NTLM password? Don't. Every single one can be cracked in under 2.5hrs

Or under 15 seconds if you have applicable rainbow tables and a GPU. (And who doesn't have a GPU nowadays?)

IMHO, this xkcd strip has a good idea but doesn't implement it correctly. (For one thing, Mr. Munroe implies his password is 25 elements {letters} long when it's actually 4 elements {common dictionary words} long.)

Not Evil (Lego Movie 2 Song): A song for infiltrations?
Posted by: Jorlem - 02-15-2019, 04:21 PM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - No Replies

I figure this could be used if Doug needed to infiltrate some evil group, to help him get in without actually needing to perform evil deeds to prove himself. Basically, I think it would make him give off the vibe of an incredible evildoer who is pretending to be good.  Also, it might genderflip him.

  Emergency Declaration

Trump is planning on joining the ranks of countless other autocrats in declaring a false emergency to assume special powers: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-47247726

I don’t trust or believe any GOP politician saying that they will oppose this. Their actions these past years have clearly shown where their interests lie.

And walk away again, and see if anyone notices...

I got back into writing again. Bob has chapters eight and nine of Dead Bang. I'm taking a day or two off before diving into Chapter ten, but I've already started blocking out the key elements.

  [OOC] Villains and Destroyers

Big Grin

From the "Montreal residence" thread, where Rob appears to be trying to divide the Metacontinuity by zero.

I think it's time to address what the primary villains in our story should look like.  We have strong creators in our story, like Washuu and the Choushin.  We have strong preservers in the story, like Belldandy and the Norns.  So we need a set of strong destroyers in the story, and we should be talking about who they should be.

We can have smaller scale villains, that's fine.  The biggest canon villain in the first three stories I chose is Kimura-sensei, who spends a little too much time ogling high school girls, but also keeps the city clean fueled only by Love Wife Lunches.  Eriol is an antagonist, but his challenges are to help the protagonist grow up with all of her friends.

Our main antagonists should be destroyers, people who aren't just out for themselves, but people who actually want to destroy the world or universe.  People who could be plausible enemies to the gods.  Salem is actually a good starting choice, now that we know her aim is to prove her gods wrong and to replace them.  The Sailor Moon enemies make good choices too, like Metalia and Pharaoh 90 and especially Chaos.  It's not just evil people, since we're working with Hild and Ciel, but those who are trying to destroy the cosmic order entirely.  And from there, we can move on to who they will use to achieve their goals.

And from that perspective, Kyubey and Mr. Morden just aren't evil enough to be major antagonists.

[OOC][Info][Plot][Arc 2] Welcome to Sol System...
Posted by: Black Aeronaut - 02-14-2019, 10:54 PM - Forum: The Attic - Replies (35)

...A Guide to the Inhabited Worlds, Major Colonies, Settlements, and Space Stations.  Wink

Sol System is gonna get crowded AWFULLY fast, what with Starfleet, the UN Spacy, various corporate entities (don't tell me that Weyland-Yutani and the Resource Development Corporation won't be showing up), different versions of Earth...  Yeah.

So I figure that we could use a seperate thread just for Sol.

Fortunately, there should be plenty of space to actually park everything...  we just need to figure out what all is showing up and how to arrange it all.

Someone - Labster I believe - brought up the idea of have six Earths to not only accommodate various conflicting versions (eg: fantasy settings such as Middle Earth would be emphatically incompatible with Post-Apocalypse Earth where the Mad Maxers would be, or Future Dystopia where we'd have a lot of Cyberpunk, or Utopian Future for Starfleet and Macross).

Talking about Babylon 5 suddenly put the idea of ALL FIVE of the Babylon Stations showing up in Sol (I think I'd like to have Reach show up at Epsilon Eridani, complete with all of its military facilities and shipyards).

They would be useful to have because it's implied that the first four stations were intended to have some degree of mobility as Babylon 4 did.  We can stick B5 at Jupiter where it will be largely safe as the Gas Giant has long since cleared the area of potentially harmful debris.  The other four we can put on the Jupiter-Sol L-Points where their maneuvering systems will help the most.  With this, these can form 'waypoints' going in and out of the Inner System and serve a similar purpose that rail yards here on Earth do - a nexus point for freight so consists going in a similar direction can be formed, allowing large freighters to do what they do best with a minimum amount of dicking around.

How badly would you guys like to see Cloud City in Jupiter's atmosphere?  Makoto would probably like that - industrial might and elegant living all in one package.

  Warframe
Posted by: Dragonflight - 02-13-2019, 07:40 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (4)

Is anyone here a regular on the PC version of Warframe?

I've been running fairly regularly with Terrence and Ankhani for several years now, but other interests/work seem to be pulling them away. So I was wondering if anyone else plays it.

If others are interested, but aren't sure, we have an awesome dojo, which means we have all the rare content researched and available for the player. And if you're good with the grinding and the in-game market, you never need to spend a dime. My roommate did it on the PS4, much to my surprise. With a bit of work, he was able to source all the rare stuff he wanted by grinding and selling other hard to acquire loot. So it is possible.

Federal judge rules Paul Manafort lied to the FBI, special counsel and Grand Jury.

Sucks to be him. Hope he enjoys spending the rest of his life in prison.

How many does this make now?
