  Epsilon is in the hospital
Posted by: robkelk - 10-28-2017, 03:00 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (14)

Don't know how many people here know Epsilon and aren't also in his gaming group... He was taken to hospital earlier today and has undergone lifesaving surgery.

The good news is he's already out of ICU. The better news is that I found out about this from an email from the man himself.

He'll be in the Thoarasics ward for a while... and that's all I know right now.

Anyone interested in doing a Quest story?
Posted by: jpub - 10-27-2017, 11:14 PM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (7)

Hi all, I've been musing doing a Quest story, and wanted to know if y'all wanted to play.

Some tidbits:
- it'll be in the Worm universe
- it won't be grimdark, as that's anathema to me
- it'll hopefully be very different from other ones you might have seen

As to why here?  Well, y'all are probably the only ones I'd ever consider doing something like this with.  I'll be damned if I get involved with the hives of pedantry and nitpicking that are SB or SV.

If there's enough interest, I'll start a new thread with the setup and rules.

  Page Link contrast
Posted by: Inquisitive Raven - 10-27-2017, 10:41 PM - Forum: Forums - Replies (3)

Is anyone else finding the page links for threads or forums hard to read in San Felix due to lack of contrast? The boxes for the links are white, and the page numbers seem to be at best 5% gray. I'm not convinced they're that much.

The Real Mottos of the Hogwarts Houses
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 10-27-2017, 06:06 PM - Forum: Drunkard's Walk VIII: Harry Potter and the Man from Otherearth - Replies (1)

Hufflepuff: You fuck with my mates, you fuck with me.
Slytherin: I can buy you and your entire family.
Ravenclaw: *downs Red Bull* I can figure this out.
Gryffindor: Hold my beer and watch this.

(From Tumblr.  Given the arguments made some years back that put Doug in Hufflepuff, I find their motto particularly appropriate.)

  Bogus New Posts
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 10-26-2017, 07:42 PM - Forum: Forums - Replies (3)

Sorry, folks, I just installed a plug-in that'll make it a bit easier to find new posts, threads, etc. and it seems to have (if my experience just now is any indication) resurrected a random set of old, read posts as "new".  If this happens to you, just use the "mark forum as read" link at the top of the particular board, and it'll go away.

Subj: It's that time of year again

Hi all,

You're getting this message because you've registed an attending membership at this year's Convention. We're offering you first shot at proposing a Panel at this year's main event. So, just reply back with the following:

Your Panel Title.
A short blurb that might fit into the back of a Convention program.
A quick list of requirements.

And any particularl scheduling conflicts, security requirements or environmental needs.

But most of all, try to make it something people will be interested in.

Ja Ne!

  RPGs for pre-Tweens?
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 10-26-2017, 09:00 AM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (9)

A coworker has just asked me about good games with which to introduce his under-ten daughter to roleplaying.  (He specifically asked about D&D, but we then expanded into things like Toon and the My Little Pony RPG that's out there.)  And though we did in fact cover a lot of options I told him I would inquire of the community here.  So, does anyone know of any other RPGs suitable for younger children?

Thanks!

  Interstellar visitor (?)

Assuming that this Minor Planet Electronic Circular is correct, the Solar System has some company: a comet from some other Oort cloud.

Discussion is ensuing.

(News spotted here.)

...the British Library.   So most of us can't make it, sadly.  Because, damn, it looks good and fun.

One nice takeaway from that video...  A little judicious work with the pause button and the snipping tool, and I have a copy of Rowling's original hand-drawn map of Hogwarts and environs:
