How politically correct can we get?
Posted by: robkelk - 08-24-2017, 03:55 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (3)

Teachers' union votes to urge school boards to remove John A. Macdonald's name from public schools

Yes, John A. Macdonald was one of the politicians who started the "residential schools" program that nearly destroyed the culture of the native peoples. He's also one of the politicians who spearheaded the building of the transcontinental railroad... and he was Canada's first Prime Minister.

This, IMHO, is the Canadian equivalent of tearing down statues to George Washington because he kept slaves. (Yes, I did just quote Trump. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.)--

In the beginning
We could hang with the dude
But it's been too much of nothing
Of that stank attitude
Now they curse your name
And there's a bounty on your face
It's your own fault daddy
Godwhacker's on the case

We track your almighty ass
Thru seven heaven-worlds
Me, Slinky Redfoot,
And our trusty angel-girls
And when the stars bleed out
That be the fever of the chase
You better get gone, poppy,
Godwhacker's on the case

Be very very quiet
Clock everything you see
Little things might matter later
At the start of the end of history

Climb up the glacier
Across bridges of light
We sniff you, Big Tiger,
In the forest of the night
'Cause there's no escape
From the Rajahs of Erase
You better run run run
Godwhacker's on the case

Be very very quiet
Clock everything you see
Little things might matter later
At the start of the end of history

Yes we are the Godwhackers
Who rip and chop and slice
For crimes beyond imagining
It's time to pay the price
You better step back son
Give the man some whackin' space
You know this might get messy
Godwhacker's on the case

Anybody want to help edit a wiki?
Posted by: robkelk - 08-18-2017, 06:22 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (2)

I know that some of the posters here user Poser or Daz Studio. I know that some of the posters here edit wikis. How big is the overlap between the two groups?

I think I've mentioned that I'm an admin on the Poser and Daz Studio Free Resources Wiki. That wiki is intended to be a resource site that describes free resources for Poser and Daz Studio. At the moment, it's more of an index of free resources for Poser and Daz Studio.

Right now, most of the wiki's index pages have listings of the form

Quote:;Free Item
:http://example.com

What we want is listings of the form
Quote:* [[Free Item]
with the page for Free Item listing the URL, the name of the item's creator, the license terms, the prerequisites (if any), and a description of the item. Oh, and a render or two. Not only do the index pages look more professional this way, but the pages for the individual free items can be searched either by Google or by looking through the page categories.

Here's an example of what I think the index pages should look like - entries are sorted into groups, and each entry has its own wiki page.

Here's an example of what most index pages actually look like (except that this one is longer than most) - entries are sorted alphabetically, and more of them are simply bare URLs than are links to wiki pages.

That means we need people who are willing to create pages for the individual free items. The wiki is set up so that you have to have an account in order to edit. (Not specifically because of you-know-who that's been a minor annoyance at Miraheze lately, but blocking that sort of behaviour is one of the reasons why.) There's also a legacy setting somewhere that blocks adding links unless the account is confirmed - which is annoying because the wiki's all about the links, but I haven't had time to troubleshoot that glitch. Thus, I'll have to confirm your account before you can create useful pages... but you all know how to get in touch with me to tell me your account name.

(Also, I could use some help creating page templates, like ATT's "trope" and "work" new-page templates - we don't have any of those yet, and I have no idea how to set them up. The easiest page template other than "blank page" would be "load the existing sidebar template at the top of the page".)

Would anyone care to help out?--

Mike Godwin says Godwin's Law doesn't apply to Charlottesville
Posted by: robkelk - 08-15-2017, 03:04 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (21)

Well, the unofficial addendum of "whoever compares someone to Nazis loses the argument" doesn't apply.

Chap behind Godwin's law suspends his own rule for Charlottesville fascists: 'By all means, compare them to Nazis'

So, no, don't let anyone shut down the discussion by citing Godwin's observation.

White House isn't just wrong about climate change, it's proven wrong about climate change
Posted by: robkelk - 08-10-2017, 01:24 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (2)

Canadian co-author of U.S. climate report says findings 'flatly contradict' Trump administration

Quote:The report, written by scientists from 13 federal agencies, concludes that the United States is already feeling the effects of climate change, with a stark increase in the frequency of heat waves, heavy rains and other extreme weather over the last four decades.

The report is now awaiting approval from U.S. President Donald Trump's administration.
No bets on whether it's going to get that approval.--
