On Friday the 13th of April, 2029, 300-metre-wide near-Earth asteroid 99942 Apophis will pass within 31,000 kilometers of Earth.
Since we're approaching 2029 in-story, I'd like to remind folks that I called "dibs" on this back in February 2010.

Did you know it's Asteroid Day? I didn't... and there doesn't appear to be any organized events happening for it in my part of the world, either.

Trying to upload one gives a filename instead of a visible image in the profile control panel page where you're supposed to be able to pick one, and the image itself hasn't been showing for a long damn while.

I'm surprised we don't already have a thread for up-and-coming musical acts... so, here's a thread.
I found these "10 Emerging Acts to Watch" lists while looking for music for my Halifax trip. There's lists for Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, and North of 60, each complete with full songs:

Okay, Saturday's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic in Ottawa. It's being held on the grounds of Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General.
This is the equivalent of having a local hospital fundraiser on the front lawn of Buckingham Palace or the White House, letting everyone wander around (and giving tours of the building). "Gravitas"? "Security"? What are those?
Does this sort of thing happen in other capital cities, or is this something that only us oddball Canucks do?
