  Secure Forums almost work

Hey, I can browse the forums securely, and now securely log in...  But why does it look so bad?  Oh right, because they're delivering static resources like CSS over HTTP, and the browser doesn't allow that.  But still, it's encouraging to see any level of support for HTTPS in 2017. ??

  [META] [GUNPLA] R2-G0 "Action Figure"
Posted by: LynnInDenver - 03-19-2017, 11:55 PM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (2)

So for those of you who don't know, one of my many hobbies is building
scale models. My particular focus is science fiction, although I also do
the occasional aircraft.
So before we moved, I bought a Bandai
kit that consisted of R2-D2, and R5-D4, both in 1/12 scale. Last year, I
bought the BB-8 and R2-D2 set, and assembled both of those. Since I
didn't want to build a second of R2-D2 specifically, I quickly decided
that I'd be doing Geo for the older R2 release.
I just finished
the kit today. In addition, doing the Adam Savage Method of doing
multiple pieces in case things go wrong, I went ahead and did up the R5
in the same color scheme. Anyone wants to write him/her up as a Warsie support character, is absolutely free to.
So here you go, the "action figure" of Geo, and his unnamed R5 Warsie "cousin". Smile

Would Trump go for a short glorious war?
Trump is looking for a curb stomp. Terrorists aren't going to cut it. More likely scenario are the North Koreans. There is enough military justification to do is, but has he considered the fallout?

Are you in Canada? How fast is your internet connection?
Posted by: robkelk - 03-16-2017, 06:51 PM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority wants to know how fast internet connections are across the country, so that they can make some informed recommendations to the government. If you're in Canada, please take part in the study at http://performance.cira.ca/

  Looking for some snipe hunts
Posted by: robkelk - 03-11-2017, 07:17 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (13)

When somebody joins a close-knit group, a reasonably-harmless form of hazing he can get is the "snipe hunt" - the old-timers send the new guy to get something that isn't a thing that can be picked up. For example:

  • At an airfield, point out that an aircraft is dirty and send him for a bucket-full of propeller wash.
  • Aboard ship, tell him to go to the hold and bring back a coil of waterline.

What are the equivalents in other settings?

The man who Trump said "gave away our country to China" is Trump's pick for ambassador to Russia

Those conspiracy theories about Russia running Trump's campaign are looking more and more plausible. Not necessarily true - http://allthetropes.org/wiki/Hanlon's_Razor]Hanlon's Razor applies here - but plausible.
