I'm looking for something that block ads, not http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/03/14 ... rnational/]replaces them with other ads.

First week in October, I'll be landing in Tokyo.

Have 6 days to do things... and would like to get Hiroshima, or Hakone into the mix.

I'll gladly take suggestions. On a tight budget....

Can you find your way out of the Kaizo Trap?
Posted by: Black Aeronaut - 03-13-2016, 10:15 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (8)

I dunno if I posted this here or not.  And I didn't want to put it in the Video thread because I was afraid it either take over the thread or get lost in everything else.

This is Kaizo Trap.

Kaizo is a Japanese word that basically translates to 'Modified' or 'Hacked'.  It started seeing usage in gamer culture with the advent of 'Kaizo Mario World' which was a hacked version of Super Mario World for the SNES that was insanely hard - the very first predecessor of of the absurdly hard Mario Maker games people make today.

And in fine Kaizo fashion, this video has five secret endings that you can find.  You will only find one link to the next ending in each video.  The clues are hidden, usually in hexadecimal code... and sometimes even in binary... but it always translates out into ASCII.

I will give you guys one hint to get started...  Your first clue is cleverly hidden in the instruction manual we see near the beginning of the video.

Good luck, gentlemen.

Poke Yuku about HTML5 Youtube Embeds?
Posted by: Jorlem - 03-07-2016, 11:19 PM - Forum: Forums - Replies (7)

Would it be possible to see if it is possible to enable HTML5 embeds on the forum?  Flash is something of a security risk, and pretty much everyone is migrating away from it.  I typically have it deactivated in my browser.  However, the forum appears to only support flash youtube embeds, or at least it seems to be turning all the embeds into Flash, which makes navigating a certain subforum rather annoying.

I'm hyped.

  Dice Shaming
Posted by: DHBirr - 03-04-2016, 07:36 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

It's like pet shaming, only for dice that failed their owners in role-playing games. A friend sent me a series of pictures, mostly twenty-siders. I won't show the pictures themselves -- dice with the number "1" uppermost get kind of monotonous, not to mention bringing back painful memories. What was written on the slips of paper, though....

I made sure my owner never rolled more than a 1 for damage.

I brought my owner 200 ft up a sheer cliffside then decided to let her fall right before reaching the top.

I left my owner on fire for five turns and proceeded to fail a save against petrification.

I refused to help my owner when he was captured by drow.

I like to roll high on useless rolls and low on important ones. (DHBirr comment:  Don't they ALL?!)

I made my owner be the only one in the party to fail her stealth roll --- and she's the NINJA.

I made my owner & his friend miss eight arrows each on someone with four HP, while he killed their friend.

I made my owner do nothing but chop herself in the leg.

(A "3") My owner didn't make her character scared of ghosts... I did. I never rolled higher than 10 when it came to fighting ethereal beings...

(Percentile dice with a score of "92") We can't Spot Hidden. Like, ever.

(A partly melted six-sided die, or perhaps two of them) I've rolled snake eyes for the LAST time!

(A "20") I killed our only Healer. My owner has not played since.

Edit:  Added one clarifying note.

  Looking for a fic
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 03-03-2016, 11:04 PM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (226)

I came across this description of an unnamed, unlinked Evangelion fic on the "I Have No Son" page at All The Tropes.  Does this ring a bell for anyone, because not only does the page have a request for a link which I'd like to provide, I actually want to read this if it's any good.

Quote:...an Evangelion fanfic where someone takes advantage of Asuka in a party and she gets pregnant. Upon hearing this, her father immediately comes over from Germany with intentions of taking her back with him and performing an abortion to restore family honor, entirely without her consent. Her resistance results in the man flipping out and hitting her, causing Shinji (who proposed to her shortly before) to go berserk on his ass and almost kill him. Sohryu disowns Asuka and proceeds to take the family property for himself... only for Gendo to inform him that not only Asuka and Shinji are under NERV jurisdiction and therefore untouchable but she's also the sole inheritor of the entire family fortune, as per her mother's will. By disowning her, Sohryu forfeited his beneficiary rights. Oops! And that's even before Gendo threatens Sohryu that with Asuka and Shinji engaged, he considers her family so Sohryu will better back off or face the consequences.

"Today, girls, we're going to start on basic tactics."
"Tactics?" Minako asked.  "Oooh, I love those little breath
mints!  There's a combat version?"
I resisted the urge to facepalm.  She *had* to be doing thatintentionally.  "Not Tic-Tacs, Minako.  *Tactics*."  Is this howHexe felt around me when I goofed on the enemy?
