Apparently, Voyager 1 has left the Solar System.

This time they really mean it. Honest.

My childhood Mecca, the Seaside boardwalk, http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nationa ... -1.1454116]is burning. That story says "six-alarm fire", but it's already at 8 alarms according the news broadcast I was just watching.
Edit:  Here's some http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?secti ... id=9245840]video.  The video implies that Funtown Pier had been rebuilt, but it hadn't; when we were last in Seaside three or so weeks back, it was still closed and littered with debris.  Casino Pier almost a mile to the north has been almost completely rebuilt and was running rides and everything; we were just wondering a couple mornings ago why the difference.

Sometimes I want to punt the guy who writes headlines for The Register.  For a http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/09/11 ... dof_space/]story posted today:

Quote:Sir Bob Geldof to be the first Irishman IN SPAAAAACE:  Tell me why I don't like Moon days
If you don't know why I'm groaning, well, musician Bob Geldof fronted the Boomtown Rats long long ago, and one of their signature hits was a song called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Don't_Like_Mondays]"I Don't Like Mondays", which has the repeated line "tell me why I don't like Mondays".

  Not a good day...

... and I can't talk about most of it. But I have to vent. What I can say is that we had a health and safety incident at work today. No fatalities, thank the gods. And that's about all I can say. But if I seem distracted or not my usual self for the next few days, this is why - I have this more important matter to attend to.

My apologies in advance if I come off snarky or brusque at any time for the rest of the week.

Need some advice for a $200 computer

I found myself flipping right the hell out today over not being able to do some digital work; there's no more patience in reserve to try to save up more money so absolute budget is $225 incl. shipping and tax. Now this is doable, if barely, with a DIY desktop, but I haven't actually been keeping up with trends in hardware - what's the general waterline for a low end but not obsolete machine in terms of cpu speed/cores, ram/hdd size, video cards? Can you even get a modern card with a VGA connector, or does

Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky - Second Chapter
Posted by: Berk - 09-06-2013, 06:03 PM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

It's a mouthful of a title.
It's coming West, with localization aid provided by Carpe Fulgur (Recettear).

Now the gut checking begins... Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd is within reach, but is an even WORSE cliffhanger for Every. Single. Game. that has been made in the series after.

Please read this first: http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/09/ ... ickwolves/

You're back? Okay, I'll go on.

From what I've heard, there's no reason to assume their analogues wouldn't have done the same in Fenspace. And it's their right to say whatever they want, no matter how much other people dislike what they say.

But one thing that Mal and I have said many times is that actions have consequences. And we had established that the big Fen gaming convention was called "PAX Venus," and took place in Crystal Seattle. That's Senshi territory.

There's no way the Senshi would want to continue to be associated with PAX after this stunt. I doubt the other major factions would want to invite them in, either.

So, I've renamed "PAX Venus" to "CrystalCon" in the FenWiki, pending suggestions of a better name. I'll leave it up to the Fenspace Collective whether we want to make the change retroactive or actually have the renaming take place in-universe...

I for one did not know he was still alive. I will roll my next set of dice in his honor.
