  "From the Great Publishing Houses of Ursa Minor..."

As I suggested in a different thread, here's a topic where we can put titles (and maybe synopses) of books published in or about Fenspace.
To start off, though, how about a list of Fen publishing houses?  A quick troll through the wiki reveals only Hogwarts' Press and Library Alpha's little press.  Surely there must be others in a civilization so inspired by the written word...

This is another aspect of the world we'll have to flesh-out.  I, for one, enjoy games with teen characters as they're still discovering who they are, which leads to scads of entertaining role-playing.
So, Bob, did you have a location where you wanted the Academy was located?

  Galileo lives again

For those who don't remember, the old prop from Star Trek has bounced around various owners over the last couple of decades, most intending (or attempting anyway) to restore her to her television brilliance. And then the fans lost track of her, and at one point it was assumed she was lost forever, either destroyed or scrapped. Until someone found a familiar silhouette hiding under a tarp in a lot on an industrial property.
There were a couple of attempts to get in touch with the current owner... until the business owner decided it needed to go, and told the owner basically, "it goes, or it's scrapped". And she wound up being put up to auction again to save her.
Well, this time, she got herself an owner that properly followed through with restoring her to glory and finding her a home that will properly care for her. A heartwarming conclusion that balances out the heartbreak of the fact that so much of her had to be replaced because of all the years of neglect and outdoor storage, only her frame and "pontoon" nacelles are still original.

  Gn Drive + Handwavium = ???

This is a question I have on my mind since I asked about beamsabers in my earlier thread.  It came up that the GN drive & particle theory were in the Catalog and that they would not be released till 2020.  Now what would GN particles do to/with Handwavium?  What do you guys think?

I'm curious as to what people think of this fic. It's competently written, but the casual mind control and murder are rather disturbing if you step back from the immediacy of the narrative.

I don't know whether Doug's going to be going face-to-face with Voldie and let him live at the end of it, but if he is, here's a quote for the occasion. It should be obvious who gets which line.

William Turner: You didn't beat me. You ignored the rules of engagement! In a fair fight, I'd kill you!
Jack Sparrow: Well, that's not much incentive for me to fight fair then, is it?

  [Update 2022] Forge notes.
Posted by: Cobalt Greywalker - 06-24-2013, 11:24 PM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (5)

As my muse directs me in fiddling with wiki markup, I more or less managed to get something for the 2022 update done. Below is my shot at describing the Company organisation for what goes on at the Forge (suitably wikified).

Comments?

The inhabitants of [[Prometheus Forge] have to earn their livings somehow, and given the amount of ‘’stuff’’ they move they have businesses by which they organise things.

== ACP Engineering Company ==

ACP Engineering Company (a.k.a. A.E.C.) is the corporate entity [[A.C. Peters] originally created to market his/her products when first starting out. Now it exists as the holding and management company for everything the Forge crew put out.

It is wholly owned by [[A.C. Peters].

=== Prometheus Forge Industries ===

P.F.I. is the main business on the asteroid. This is the Research and Development business that most people think about when [[A.C. Peters|A.C.’s] name is mentioned.
[[A.C. Peters] holds 60% of the stock of the company under his/her control of A.E.C., the rest is equally split with the rest of the [[Prometheus Forge] crew.

=== Orion Computer Products ===

As business differentiated, [[A.C. Peters|A.C.] created this company to manage and sell her cyberneticsSirius Cybernetics Corporation having been taken by that point. It has expanded to include all the advanced electro-mechanical items now sold by the Forge, including drones, KoFen systems, Interwave systems and the like.
The company is 70% owned by A.E.C. and 30% owned and run by [[Lebia Maverick].

=== Peters Biomedical Company ===

This company manages the development, testing, and sale of the various medical technologies the crew of the Forge have developed. It is also the company that manages the treatment centre on the asteroid.
Peters Biomedical is a wholly owned subsidiary of P.F.I.

=== Gaia Pharmaceuticals, Ltd ===

Originally a name to put on the paperwork, Gaia Pharmaceuticals now manufactures and sells the various cosmetics and perfumes [[Greenpeace Crolis|Greenpeace] has developed.
[[Greenpeace Crolis|Greenpeace] owns 60% of the company, with A.E.C. owning 40%.

=== Crolis Flora Services ===

CFS manages and sells the plants and plant based products (for example vegetables) produced by Prometheus Forge. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of P.F.I.

=== Golden Bail Armaments, Ltd ===

This is [[Eddie|Eddie’s] company, which he uses to sell the various weapon systems he has developed. All customers are subject to stringent security checks, as demanded by [[A.C. Peters|A.C.]
G.B.A. is a wholly owned subsidiary of P.F.I.

=== Prometheus Forge Productions ===

Originally developed by [[Leonard da Quirm] to produce his Tower of Wonder TV show, it has now expanded to deal with the software used by the KoFen system and does further business as an effects house.
Prometheus Forge Productions is a wholly owned subsidiary of P.F.I.

=== Damogran Ship Yards ===

The next venture of [[Eddie], it is known for building the Simurgh corvette, the Singularity series of highly modular space ships for Hades Station, and the SV Deimos test bed for ‘’’’’’, as well as being the official producer of the F/A-37 Black Talon fighters and the MQ-44 Woodsman U.C.A.V.E.D.I.

=== MB Corporation ===

Established December 20, 2013, it is 30% owned by A.E.C. as part of a deal to manage several asteroids it claims. MB Corp was set up to construct ‘’’’’’. Currently it is in negotiations with several ‘Danelaw organisations and Countries.

  The Truth about Anglo Irish Bank
Posted by: Dartz - 06-24-2013, 03:40 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (5)

And so, at lunchtime, the country comes to a halt as people everywhere listen to just how Anglo Irish Bank bankrupted the state, and the deliberacy with which it was done.

http://www.independent.ie/business/iris ... 66837.html

Quote:Paul Williams Special Correspondent – 24 June 2013

The astonishing tapes show senior manager John Bowe, who had been involved in negotiations with the Central Bank, laughing and joking as he tells another senior manager, Peter Fitzgerald, how Anglo was luring the State into giving it billions of euro.

Mr Fitzgerald had not been involved in the negotiations with the Central Bank and has confirmed he was unaware of any strategy or intention to mislead the authorities. Mr Bowe, in a statement last night, categorically denied that he had misled the Central Bank.

The audio recordings are from the bank's own internal telephone system and date from the heart of the financial crisis that brought the State to its knees in September 2008.

Anglo itself was within days of complete meltdown – and in the years ahead would eat up €30bn of taxpayer money. Mr Bowe speaks about how the State had been asked for €7bn to bail out Anglo – but Anglo's negotiators knew all along this was not enough to save the bank.

The plan was that once the State began the flow of money, it would be unable to stop.

Mr Bowe is asked by Mr Fitzgerald how they had come up with the figure of €7bn. He laughs as he is taped saying: "Just, as Drummer (then-CEO David Drumm) would say, 'picked it out of my arse'."

He also says: "If they (Central Bank) saw the enormity of it up front, they might decide they have a choice. You know what I mean?

"They might say the cost to the taxpayer is too high . . . if it doesn't look too big at the outset . . . if it looks big, big enough to be important, but not too big that it kind of spoils everything, then, then I think you have a chance. So I think it can creep up."

Mr Fitzgerald, the Director of Retail Banking, is heard saying: "Yeah. They've got skin in the game and that is the key."

Mr Bowe's comments in the audio recording reveal that Anglo's strategy was to lure the State in, leaving taxpayers with no choice but to continue to provide loans to "support their money".

The recording also shows Mr Bowe and Mr Fitzgerald laughing as they say how there is no realistic chance of ever repaying the loans.

For the first time, taxpayers get an exclusive insight into the banking shenanigans that cost Ireland our sovereignty.

I'm not sure what makes me more angry. Listening to it, or the fact that I'll listen to it again in a year's time and none of these cunts will be in prison.
