The Fall of Boskone Prime
Posted by: robkelk - 11-21-2010, 06:36 PM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (14)

This is one of the projects we're working on before we lift the freeze on moving Fenspace's "now". Anyone who wants access to the Google Document, please ask for it here. (Anyone with access to the Google Documents for The South Is Rising, Somebody Get a Hammer or The Fall of Crystal Osaka already has access to BoskonePrime.doc)

So far, all we've got is a short prologue to set the scene:

Prologue: Girls' Night Out

28 December 2013
Meetpoint, Earth-Luna L5

"Yes, our employers can't work with each other. But that's not even a good excuse to throw away victory in the Boskone War, let alone a good reason."

"Um... Technically, Haruhi isn't my boss."

"You know what Yayoi means, Mikuru." Catty sighed. "The important part is that we're letting petty rivalries stand in the way of our objective."

Shuko nodded. "We've lost too many people already. Marcel, Ms. Nikaido, all those innocent people on Crystal Osaka... It has to end."

"Which is why we called everybody together in the first place," Nezumi added. "We can't let the current situation go on any longer."

"Unfortunately, there isn't anything I can do to help you here. The Transrationality Science Assessment Bureau has orders from the Department of Defense to remain neutral in this whole affair. The Pentagon's getting enough flack from Washington because the Navy's involved in this."

Emily glared at Amy. "They attacked us first!"

Nezumi put a hand on each uniformed woman's shoulder. "Ladies, we're here to try to stop the bickering, not get lessons from the experts on how to continue it."

Emily backed down. Amy glared at Nezumi. "Time for me to leave. I can't contribute anything to this, and I'm just causing friction here." Nezumi let her go.

Gina broke the silence. "Now that that little bit of drama is finished, what are we going to do about this?"

"Pool our resources, coordinate our actions, and take the battle to the enemy, of course," answered "Doc" Raven.

"Here's the first resource," volunteered Winry. "Task Force Tango Shoes raided an enemy base code-named 'Jusenkyou' three weeks ago. The data sifters back at Great Justice discovered references to a location code-named 'Black Tower' in the data we liberated - it appears to be the Boskonians' overall command and control point. We don't have coordinates for it, though."

"That matches the intel we got from that hell-hole in space that FESWAT cleaned out the day before yesterday," added Nanoha.

"The Sammies took a Boskonian troop carrier yesterday," interrupted Utena. "Its navigational computers held the location of an asteroid called 'Black Tower', but didn't indicate it was of any importance."

The Jess in attendance nodded slowly. "Even if that's disinformation, it's worth a look..."

  Online fiction rec
Posted by: VladimirTherin - 11-21-2010, 04:45 PM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - No Replies

Its not really fanfiction, but its an awesome series that has both a free online prequel, and the author decided to put the most recent installment in the series on his site as well.
If you kind of squint and look at it sideways, you could call it Dreden Files fanfic maybe?
If you like that series, I definitely think you will dig this one.

  [RFC] Curses!

Well, I've lost my laptop.  And along with it chapter 6 and chapter 7 of DSKS.
The good news is that I was backing up the folder to an SD Card.  That bad news is that at some point in time it started giving me some weird error - probably because the card was starting to go bad.  So I only have chapters 1 through 5.
I may get my laptop back, but it could take up to a year to happen.  Until then, I've taken the precaution of purchasing a new laptop.  It's a nice little thing, too.  Toshiba Satellite A665D series, with AMD Phenom triple core processor at 2.2 GHz and 1.5 MB of L2 Cache, 4 GB of DDR3 Memory, and an ATI Mobility Radeon with a dedicated 1 GB of DDR3 Memory.  I may not have my missing material back, but it's nice to have a computer again.

Web Censorship Bill Sails Through Senate Committee
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 11-20-2010, 12:00 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (24)

This is NOT good.

Quote:On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a bill that would give the Attorney General the right to shut down websites with a court order if copyright infringement is deemed “central to the activity” of the site — regardless if the website has actually committed a crime. The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) is among the most draconian laws ever considered to combat digital piracy, and contains what some have called the “nuclear option,” which would essentially allow the Attorney General to turn suspected websites “off.”

Most pertinent and to the point comment at the site above:

Quote:” if copyright infringement is deemed “central to the activity” of the site ”
Deemed by WHO?

  200 students caught cheating
Posted by: Dartz - 11-18-2010, 11:34 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (8)

200 students on a University of Florida business course admit to cheating on an exam, after being called out on it by their professor.

The professors response to this.... offering a makeup exam and no academic punishment to those who come forward before being outright discovered, is pretty cool on his part, considering how obviously annoyed he is.

  Angel Beats
Posted by: CattyNebulart - 11-18-2010, 08:56 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (2)

I just finished watching Angel Beats, and damit, a show about immortal highshoolers rebbeling against god, and fighting against the student council president/angel with guns, rock & roll and giant fans is not supposed to be this depressing.

The ending actually made me cry Sad

Still it is a good anime and I recommend it.
E: "Did they... did they just endorse the combination of the JSDF and US Army by showing them as two lesbian lolicons moving in together and holding hands and talking about how 'intimate' they were?"
B: "Have you forgotten so soon? They're phasing out Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
