Random Funny Bit from World of Warcraft
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 12-01-2010, 12:55 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (3)

As some of you know, I acquired a free month of game time due to a RMT farmer who thought they had hacked an idle, unwatched account. (Which later I boosted by a week. I'm on till Dec 15th for free) If you haven't seen me around in City of Heroes the last week or so, it's likely because I've been getting re-familiarized with the WoW world. As an aside, it's been a fascinating experience. All the new elements make for a gameplay experience that is MUCH more solo-friendly than before. And joining dungeon parties is now amazingly easy now that all the dungeons are cross realm instances! No waiting around or building a party!
Anyway, not the point I was posting about. Now...
One of the things I do love about the WoW design team is that, like the City of Heroes devs, they put jokes into the game. Sly references to popular culture. Obscure in-jokes. Things that the discerning geek would grok and get a laugh at.
This is one that's not quite so obscure as -say- having an Oscillation Overthruster as a component or power boost. Or maybe having an NPC in Theramore port be a reference to Mike Rowe of the Discovery show Dirty Jobs.
No - this one is EASY...
Some spoiler space...

There's a dirt and cobblestone road that runs from the human starting zone of Elwynn Forest to the plains of Westfall. Before the new world changes went into effect, there was a farmer and his wife (and their horse) standing by the side of the road with a pair of quests for low level characters to do. Real simple, mundane stuff. They had cleared out of their farm in a hurry and had left some things behind and while they're fixing their wagon would you please go and retrieve the stuff before the bandits get it? That sort of thing.
Now, after the most recent patch which changed the world. The farmer and his wife (and the horse) are still there. Sort of. They're corpses. They've been murdered (the horse too).
Standing there is a team of investigators looking over the crime scene. One of the junior investigators comments that it's a real shame what's happened to the farmer and his wife. The other comments that it's also sad what happened to the horse, but why didn't they just -steal- the horse?
The senior investigator, wearing a black suit with red hair, looks things over...
Investigator Horatio Laine: "Yes, in this case, it looks like they definitely put the cart...

...before the horse."

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Did some browsing and found these guys: The Original Onions
They do "surf rock" covers of 80s music, especially good are their covers of "Call Me" and "I Ran."

Help finding old show from quote - please
Posted by: Fenian - 11-30-2010, 07:14 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (10)

Hi all. I have a friend who is going crazy trying to find the source of a quote that is featured in the OST for the video game Deathsmiles.
The quote is as follows:
"The mind of man rests on a delicate
balance between reality, the world of light, and the other darker world
below the threshold of consciousness... and it is from this world of
darkness which comes the evil destructive forces in man's nature."

It can be heard sampled in the following YouTube clip from a band called Conception from Norway.
Conception
If you happen to know where this quote is from it would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Fenian

Seen (and participated in) on the SJGames Forums: 2000 Things I Am No Longer Allowed To Do At Hogwarts

Because, after all, Doug is going to at least think of doing some of these...

3. No creating Illusionary Golden Snitches during Quidditch matches.
...
7: Not allowed to affix a JATO unit to a broom.
...
16. I am no long allowed to turn the castle's staircases into water slides, no mater what the weather is like.
...
26. Bring a muggle to school day is not an authorized holiday.
...
31. Attempting to pass myself off as the new Muggle Interactions Instructor is now forbidden.
...
35. Transmuting sand into Stronium 90 is NOT a proper use of Magic.
...
42. No matter how much Hermione liked the idea, I will not again staff the Hogwarts uniform repair shop with house elves.

  Specialized Fanfic Search Engine

This is pretty cool, although the UI could use a bit of polish. You take a story ID from fanfiction.net and it looks at which other stories are favorited by people that favorited that story, and returns them as search results.
Not sure if it is useful yet but it sounds like it should work in theory.

URL again in case Yuku eats the link: http://fanfictionrecs.net/favs_test.php

  Querying the Hive Mind

My brother-in-law Dave, who was raised in New Jersey on New Jersey/New York-style pizza, now lives in Baltimore and despairs of ever eating good pizza except when visiting his mother in North Brunswick.
I told him I would inquire of the board and see if anyone knows if there is decent NJ/NY-style pizza anywhere to be found in the Baltimore area.
So... anyone have any idea?  Thanks.
