Any idea what was causing them? I don't remember the times, but it was about three hours I think.

So a thought occurred to me...

We know that Doug had no conscious control over the activation of his magegift - other then avoiding music. So if he doesn't have his helmet or a tuneplug or similar and he hears music, something will happen, he can't suppress his power from activating.

Is this a widely known fact in the Warriors universe? Or even by just a few or singular enemies?

'Cause I had this vision of Doug being tied up somewhere and forced to listen to music by his captors, in the hopes they could use his powers for their benefit. If he was tied up, conscious and unable to block out or ignore any music around him, his power would activate right? What if it was a dangerous power to himself or other people? What if in hopes of torturing him, an enemy made him a victim of his own powers?

Surely some evil force would eventually find a way to take advantage of that.... (evil grin)

Songs to fit a few powers
Posted by: David Lewis - 03-30-2021, 08:21 PM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - Replies (7)

I know the sub is meant for speculation and suggestions for Songs for Doug and the resulting powers, but I want to try the reverse for once.

So I’ve been putting thought into a few kinds of powers that I can’t remember there being an official version/ruling of, and wonder if anyone else has a better memory or imagination then me. The powers I’m thinking of in particular are -

A summon/transform into Combat Gear song, something that would allow Doug to get into gear without actually having to do it by hand, be it by summoning his stuff or transforming the clothes he’s currently wearing into them.

A plant manipulation/chlorokinesis powerset, something like Poison Ivy or similar. There’s been dozens of different fire/earth/water/lightning style power songs, but I don’t think this one has come up before.

A go-into-movies/tv power, something like Control Freak from the old Teen Titans cartoon, I imagine Doug entering into actual Looney Tunes or slapstick comedies or such to schmooze with the occupants. Or maybe a Kung-Fu movie for martial arts practice or something.

Why take the Google News feed, strip out all the trackers (and other images) and JavaScript, and present it with minimal formatting at 68k.news, Alex?

Has Doug ever felt himself in actual need of an Anime Hive of Scum and Villainy? Because this seems tailor-made for it. Or at least something similar....

Question Linux distro recommendations
Posted by: Inquisitive Raven - 03-26-2021, 06:50 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (4)

I just bought a new computer with a 1TB SSD drive. Since I honestly don't think I'm likely to run out of space on a 500 GB partition anytime soon, I was considering setting this thing up to dual boot. It's been ages since I've done much with any kind of *nix system so I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for what Linux distro I should install or if anyone thinks I'd be better off with something like freebsd?

Of course, I'm going to have to figure out how to partition the blasted drive...

Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear... er, yestermonth, in the days when those people at Blossom still didn't know that their emotions were being controlled, and hear the story of how two people were discovered in the Metacontinuity and invited to live in Ottawa...

Prologue

Kemptville, Ontario, Canada
December 10, 2016
5:07 pm ET

Two rather large people caught her attention as she left the coffee shop by the back door. "Hey, you!"

She turned to face them. "Do you have some business with me?"

"Yeah. We'd appreciate it if you were to stay in Kemptville for all of next week."

"Think of it as a ... personal favour."

"Why would I want to do you any favours?" She pulled a mirror out of her purse and primped, hoping they'd take the hint.

"Because it'd be very bad for you if you don't do what we say."

The one who wasn't talking grabbed at the mirror, but she spun it around to keep it out of his reach ... and to catch a reflection of his face in the glass.

What she saw wasn't human. They hadn't taken the hint, but they had taken the bait. "I don't do favours for your sort. I kill things like you. Deep Submerge!" Michiru caught both trolls in the same blast, destroying them utterly.

A moment later, a car pulled into the parking lot. "Sorry I'm late! Why do you have the Deep Aqua Mirror out?"

"Oh, I just had to deal with a couple of Unseelie."

"Again?" Haruka asked while Michiru got into the car. "We really need to do something about them."

"Usagi said she and her friends were working on a plan for that."

"We really need to do something about them before Usagi tries to be friends with them."

"When I mentioned that to her last week, she said something about a different kind of befriending."

"I wonder what she meant by that?"

"Who knows?"

"We have a problem." Rob scowled as he sat down for lunch.

Mikoto looked up. "A problem? What is it?"

Rob almost made the Airplane! joke, but "a source of irritation or vexation" was what was important right now. "I just got an email from someone I used to work with. Her husband does design work for Haruka's race team, and he mentioned that Haruka's looking at making a raid against the Unseelie."

"I thought we were supposed to be keeping our existence secret," Mii muttered to nobody in particular.

"We're planning a raid, too, once it warms up in the spring," Makoto replied while carrying a platter of salmon fillets in from the kitchen. "Assuming we're still here then."

"Uranus wants to make the raid before Christmas."

Mii sighed. "Is there any way we can rein her in?"

Usagi shook her head. "She's not somebody who's used to taking orders. Neither is Michiru." Turning to Mii, she added, "Which is probably why Rob-oji's past coworker and her husband know about them - she might have told them."

"Do they know where the Unseelie are?"

"I don't know, Kazari. We know, or at least Jacky and Kate know, but have any of the Sidhe told Michiru?"

"If they have," Rei answered, "then we don't have a lot of time to figure out how to stop them from going in and getting themselves killed."

"They're Sailor Senshi, Niiko Misaka points out. Would they really be at risk, Niiko Misaka asks in continuation."

"They might," Mamoru replied. "It took all six of us plus Railgun to take down a single giant, and I was injured in the process."

"And from what the books say," Rob added, "we can't assume that there's only one giant in their lair."

"Too bad we don't have a military strike force that we could send against the Unseelie right now."

Rob raised one eyebrow. "Rui-chan, have you forgotten the MITHRIL strike force in San Antonio?"

Ruiko grinned sheepishly and and put one hand behind her head. "Ah-heh-heh. Yeah, I did."

Makoto cleared her throat. "Eat now, strategize later. The fish is getting cold."

Rob nodded. "Agreed. Besides, we want Haruka, Michiru, Tessa, Jacky, and Kate here for this. I'll call them after lunch."

"Invite them over for supper," Usagi suggested.

Well, I guess they don't want my vote...

Canadian Conservative party rejects adding 'climate change is real' to the policy book

Quote:Conservative delegates at the party's policy convention have voted to reject adding green-friendly statements to the policy book — including a line that would have stated the party believes "climate change is real" and is "willing to act."

The Portneuf—Jacques—Cartier riding in Quebec, which proposed the policy change, also asked delegates to recognize that "Canadian businesses classified as highly polluting need to take more responsibility" and "reduce their GHG emissions."

The policy proposal also included a call to support "innovation in green technologies" so that Canada can become "a world-class leader" in an emerging industry.

Delegates issued a rebuke to climate-minded Conservatives and rejected the policy shift by a margin of 54 per cent to 46. In fact, it was one of only four policy proposals or modifications on a list of 50 pitched by electoral riding associations (EDAs) that were rejected by the delegates.

I prefer to vote for people who live in the real world, so this decision has lost them my vote.
