  Hess Task Force Screenshots
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 09-12-2008, 05:33 PM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (2)

We almost always stop in this room to get a group screenshot before the main battle. Here's one from the most recent TF and one from a few weeks ago.
(I'm slightly amused that in both shots, I managed to have the exact same schematic of the giant robot flashing up on the console behind us. [Image: smile.gif] )

Friday Night TF: LGTF the Sequel (Alternatively, Son of LGTF, LGTF's Revenge...etc. etc.)
Posted by: OpMegs - 09-12-2008, 10:56 AM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (10)

So, like anyone on the Legendary channel at the time knows, I've yet to actually *complete* an LGTF. I got in one! Once. And then I dropped TF. Yeah.
Someone should put up a sign on the base portal.

Anyway! Putting out a call for a grand, Rikti stomping, Merit earning, Revelations of the Apocalypse referencing good time.

Anyone at or over level 35 qualifies, blue or redside. We love our redsiders, really, we do. They encourage multilingual understanding. Which is to say about
half the time, half the team has no idea what the other half is saying. But it's exotic!

Kinetics boosts, snark, and end drain will be provided by the staff.

Start time is flexible, but we'll try to start around 8PM EST. Past this point, when we have enough warm bodies( 8 ) to start off.

  [RFC] Jessica 'Jess' Ayanami
Posted by: Black Aeronaut - 09-12-2008, 05:42 AM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (24)

For a while now I've been thinking about how I'm going to be staffing such a large installation as The Roughrider base on 36 Atalante. Intitially, I
had been inspired by Dee, one of the AIs of the VVS. While the idea had merit, I didn't want to look like I was carbon-copying the idea. Then, I thought,
"What if it was a biomod?" After all, with handwavium, nearly anything is possible...

Jess was a girl that despised being part of a wealthy family living along the Golden Coast. Sure, the vacations were fantastic and she did love her parents
very much, but the lifestyle just was not her speed.

Like many fen, Jess loved anime and especially loved to cosplay as Rei Ayanami of Neon Genesis Evangelion. When she got the first chance, she handwaved her
car, a surprisingly mundane Dodge Neon, and high-tailed it to Kandor. One she was in the company of the fen, she began to experiment with Handwavium as an
occupation and cosplay as a hobby, with Rei still being her perinial favorite.

Eventually, she began an experiment to create a new strain of handwavium - one that would enable the mass-production of bio-androids to provide staff for large
operations. At one point in the process, she forgot she was supposed to be at a cosplay competition and was going as... You guessed it, Rei Ayanami, and she
pulled out all the stops this time. Of course, Murphy's Law states that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Some sloppy house-keeping had been the
cause of the mis-step that landed her in the vat full of her experimental handwavium. With no one around to provide assistance, the Handwavium was left to its
own devices and the next day, Jess woke up nearly smothered in... Herself?

The Handwavium had done more or less as she thought it would and when provided with a single model that it saw as unfinished, perfected it and made as many
copies as it could (the handwavium strain came with all the basic chemical building blocks that was needed). In short, Jessica had one-hundered copies of
herself as Rei Ayanami.

Confusion came quick as the copies of herself did everything that she did. Since the handwavium had Rei as a template, all the copies were tied together in
some hither-to-unknown form of telepathy. As she tried to sort -that- out, she soon discovered that the temporary hair die and contact lenses were no longer
temporary.

It took a few weeks and the help of many, both from professionals and from her friends, before she got herself sorted out. Seeing the dangerous nature of such
a handwavium strain, she discontinued her research into the matter and focused instead on providing her services as temporary staffing. However, once
Operation: Great Justice got underway, she soon decided that her abilities would be best put to use among one of the Factions better suited against the
Boskonian Threat, but lacking in manpower for their facilities. It didn't take long for her to leanr about the Roughriders as Benjamin had come to Kandor
to recruit in person.

Biomod: 101 "Rei Clones''

Quirks:
  • Teamwork among a group of clones is best achieved when they're wearing a uniform of any sort, but for absolute top performance a
'plug suit' or a Japanese school uniform is best suited.

  • Intense physical and emotional reactions can disrupt her multitasking capabilities. Needless to say that certain nocturnal activities have
caused some remarkable disruptions on the job.

Trivia:
  • Capable of AI-like processing capabilities by using all the available processing power of her 'clones.'
  • In order to keep medical records of the clones, they're all numbered from zero to one-hundred.
  • Serves as The Roughriders' Honor Guard with coordination that rivals the US Marine Corp's Silent Drill Platoon.

  [RFC] The ReAnimator
Posted by: Shay Guy - 09-11-2008, 07:22 PM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (11)

Figured I'd throw this one out here after I had the idea of implementing it in Fenspace.

The ReAnimator

The ReAnimator - self-named because "it sounds about ten times cooler than just 'Animator'" - is a Wavetech computer/animation studio created
by a True Neutral who prefers to go by "Mekboy" from his computer, DVD player, and various peripherals. Upon the addition of handwavium to the
combination, it metamorphosed into a rather ugly cybernetic/organic hybrid with a computer screen and a mouth as its most noticeable attributes.
Experimentally, Mekboy offered it his Negima! DVD set, which it promptly ate, then plugged itself into an Internet jack. Shortly afterward, it also ate
Mekboy's first few volumes of the Negima! manga, and became silent.

Some days later, it spat out a DVD which Mekboy discovered to contain a high-resolution video file: the first episode of a new Negima! series. As it turned
out, the ReAnimator had decided that it could do better than XEBEC had in adapting the manga. And indeed, the next few episodes it produced over the next month
were highly faithful to Akamatsu's manga, superbly animated, and well voiced, with the curious quirk that there was no music - apparently it lacked the
skill to compose any. Undaunted, Mekboy assembled a team of musicians and sound editors to make up for this deficiency, and eventually - with Akamatsu's
agreement - released what, indeed, most fen have taken to calling NDR, for "Negima Done RIGHT."

After the full run of Akamatsu's manga had been adapted, the ReAnimator took to adapting Ranma ½, calling the animation and characterization in Studio
Deen's anime "craptacular" and posting a 3,000-word essay online on "Why Stopping in the Middle is Bad." For personal amusement, it has
also created several music videos and distributed them freely online. These include "Bell B. Dandy," in which the goddess Belldandy gives an
enthusiastic performance of Johnny B. Goode, "Kanon Rock," in which the cast of Kanon performs JerryC's hit rendition of a classical piece, and
"Kumikyoku," a spectacularly animated and choreographed rendition of the eleven-minute medley circulated on the video sharing site Nico Nico Douga.
Reportedly, discussions are also underway to produce adaptations of Animorphs and Megatokyo.

The ReAnimator can purportedly be a very temperamental and demanding creator; one assistant described headquarters as the only place in Fenspace that serves
DVDs with chocolate sauce. Particularly infamous are its arguments with Benjamin Hutchins over the production and creative control of an Undocumented Features
series. All attempts at producing a new ReAnimator without the original's problems have dramatically failed. Nevertheless, it remains one of the most
profitable media producers in Fenspace.

Well, then...any thoughts? Comments? Flames? Pie?

  I HAVE A DREAM
Posted by: Star Ranger4 - 09-11-2008, 03:51 AM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (3)

(apologies to Mr. King)

A dream where Politicians truely are accontable to the people they serve; where the people hold the ultimate power.

That of the purse.

I dont know how many of you are aware of the present situation in California, but our state has been operating without a budget for almost 90 days now while
the Democrats and the Republicans fight.

That's right. They were supposed to have had a budget passed back on the FIRST OF JULY. And almost every year they fail to do so. YET THEY STILL GET
PAID.

This year, both parties are more concerned with looking good for the elections and having it their way. AND THEY ARE STILL GETTING PAID. IN FULL.

Schwartzeneger wanted to cut the pay of State Employees... People who work for US but dont have the input into the budget to the Federal Minimum Wage until
the budget was passed... BUT NO ONE IS CUTTING THE POLITICIANS SALARIES.

I SAY
ENOUGH!

Californians need to stand up and say to their Elected officials "WAIT a SECOND, This isnt what we sent you to Sacramento to do!!!"

To be honest, I dont know how many of you know people in California, or really care, but I Say its time WE DID SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.

I hearby call upon my fellow californians to gather together and support a direct ballot proposition, amending the State Constitution to include the following
two clauses:

1) No Elected official, nor any member of his staff shall be paid for any period in which their budget is overdue. In addition, said pay shall be returned to
the General fund to be used as needed for any purpose OTHER than recompence of elected officials.

2) ANY increase of an elected officials salary must be approved by a two thirds majority of the appropriate electorate before it becomes effective. Said pay
increases may NOT be made retroactive under any circumstances, nor may a special election be scheduled for the purposes of approving any pay raise. Such
measures MUST wait until the next regularly scheduled election.

If you are a Californian, or know one who's fed up with the way things are run, pass this along. We need eight percent of the support Schwartzeneger had
in November of 2006. That's eight percent of 4,850,157, or 388,013 signatures. With that many signatures we can have this measure placed on the ballot
DESPITE ANY ATTEMPT by the politicians to cover their wealth.

If you agree with me, help us gather these needed signatures. If your not a Californian yourself, pass this along to someone who is... or might be.

Or check your states laws... if you live in an initative state like California, start your own movement to gather signatures and demand the same of YOUR
politicians.

These are OUR elected officials. Isnt it time they were accountable to the people they represent?

The Large Hadron Collider is being spun up today for its first test, and according to some people it very well might casue a black hole or big bang or
something and destroy the world and everythign in it (presumably). This has caused quite a bit of upraor among some people, and even death threats.

In the best interests of everyone, individuals have taken it upon themselves to monitor the activities of the Large Hadron Collider and how much of a threat it
is to the world. I present you the website dedicated to keeping track of this data.

Am I the only one currently unable to access both the CoH servers *and* the site itself? I didn't see any announcements before I went to bed last night.

I have come to one conclusion. It is one of three causes:

- Server maitenance that I missed the memo on, though that doesn't explain the SITE going down...

- Issue 13 is gonna be GINORMOUS

- The Large Hadron Collider has accidentally annihilated NCSoft's offices and servers.(WHAT HAS SCIENCE WROUGHT?!)
