  Christopher Walken… Dances…
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 09-08-2008, 03:29 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (3)

This is simultaneously kinda creepy, yet very cool. Which really, is the whole thing with Christopher Walken when you think about it. [Image: happy.gif]

Music Video with Walken

Who knew? The guy was about 58 when he made this. Apparently he started as a dancer and helped choreograph that video.

  Subforuming

The suggestion has been made that we spin off the Ship Registry and the Gazetteer (at the very least) as subforums. Any objections?

  Yuku's Further Pratness
Posted by: Evil Midnight Lurker - 09-08-2008, 10:45 AM - Forum: Forums - Replies (4)

It reset some of my preferences -- the number of posts per page -- and will not let me change them back unless I start
paying.

I find this unacceptable. Adding entirely new features on a pay-for-play basis, that's one thing. Suddenly
charging for stuff that was previously free, and is as minor as this? Quite, quite another. >.

Few notes and ideas into the melting pot...
Posted by: Shader - 09-08-2008, 03:51 AM - Forum: Mission Design - Replies (6)

Things to avoid -

* Coralax story... everyone will probably be wanting to have a bash at that, or at least the forum readers. Although I'm sure we could work something out.

* high level content

Points to note...

* the engine doesn't support forking beyond changing the text on misson success and mission failure.

* best to use elements of existing content/cannon as a springboard and use the KISS principle.

* there's probably going to be more blue side stuff then red side.

* Stories can't be more then 5 missions long.

* Leaked Mission planner: Linked picture

Ideas

* Where's the Kheldians from the Rikti dimension? Why don't we even see the Rikti "go oh great not you bunch again!"

* On the subject of alternative worlds... (but this is touching high level content)... Praetorian Nitcus would be the good guys and Praetorian Peacebringers
would be the bad guys. Where are they and anyone up for some void stomping?

* What's up with Kelly U'qua? ...(Contact details at Red
Tomax) ... plant evidence with everyone's favorite scapegoat reporter Amanda Vines's computer that Kelly is a rikti in disguise.

* Cleanup crew: There are many non-newspaper mission that the text read a 'villain has stolen data from X' or 'unfortunately a hero came a rescued
them while you were gone' ... I just can't find them the quick 3 minute search I did while typing up this post... You need a job done, call the clean
up crew.

  Mission Design
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 09-07-2008, 11:38 PM - Forum: Mission Design - No Replies

This forum area is intended for the use of folks designing and/or collaborating on missions and arcs to be implemented in the City of Heroes/Villains Mission Architect.

  Okay, something new...
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 09-07-2008, 11:35 PM - Forum: Forums - Replies (9)

You've probably already noticed that "Other People's Fanfiction" and "The Legendary" now have something they never did before --
comboboxes under their names. A request was made for a forum to discuss mission design for COH, and in implementing it I discovered that Yuku supports nesting
subforums under forums. So I'm making the experiment -- "Archived Fanfic Recommendations" is now a subforum of "Other People's
Fanfiction", and the new "Mission Design" subforum is under "The Legendary". If it doesn't prove annoying or confusing, I'll
keep it this way, and maybe consider other subforuming that seems to make sense.

One good thing about an unnecessary election
Posted by: robkelk - 09-07-2008, 07:24 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (8)

The writ's been dropped, and http://www.cbc.ca/news/canadavotes/]Canadians go to the polls October 14. I still don't know why, except maybe that the Prime Minister had to negotiate with other party leaders in the just-dissolved minority government instead of getting everything his own way. (Which would explain why he called an election, but doesn't address why an election was necessary...)

At least there's one good thing - http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/epic/site/crp ... sf/en/Home]Bill C-61, which would have removed some of the "fair dealing" rights from the Canadian Copyright Act, died on the order paper. But was that really worth the ~$300,000,000 it'll cost to hold this election?

  banging rocks together
Posted by: Sweno - 09-07-2008, 03:55 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (3)

ok, I figured I'd share what I do on my Tuesday nights.
The links are to rather large images. I have even higher resolutions available (photobucket limits it to 1 meg per photo) if someone wants them.

My first piece (and an object lesson as to why not to leave alabaster out in the acid rain)
[Image: thPiece_1a.jpg] [Image: thPiece_1b.jpg]

The second piece I've done (had a rather bad split towards the end and had to glue it back together)
[Image: thTorus_a.jpg] [Image: thTorus_b.jpg]

Piece #3, I'm still in the progress of mounting this into a wall lamp
[Image: thLamp_a.jpg] [Image: thLamp_b.jpg]

Piece #4, My largest so far (about 2.5 feet tall), and looks best when lit outside.
[Image: thSail_a.jpg] [Image: thSail_b.jpg] [Image: thSail_c.jpg]

And yes Ankh, If you really want a sculpture of Emet I can do it. I can make it between 1 or 2 feet high, and I'm in CA so shipping cost will depend on where it has to go. It will also have to wait until I'm done with my current piece (about 18 months out).

Another "miraculous face on the wall" story
Posted by: robkelk - 09-07-2008, 03:04 AM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

http://www.theonion.com/content/news/ev ... _to_darwin]Evolutionists Flock To Darwin-Shaped Wall Stain

Quote:"To those who would deny that genetic drift is responsible for a branching evolutionary tree of increasing biodiversity amid changing ecosystems, we say, 'Look upon the face of Darwin!'" said Jeanette Cosgrove, who, along with members of her microbiology class, has maintained a candlelight vigil at the site for the past 72 hours.

Seen on The Onion, of course...
