Some Jethro Tull and Heather Dale
Posted by: Riot - 12-23-2003, 11:31 PM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - Replies (5)

If Doug ever needs a sword, this might provide one.
Broadsword - Jethro Tull
I see a dark sail on the horizon set under a black
cloud that hides the sun.
Bring me my broadsword and clear understanding.
Bring me my cross of gold as a talisman.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bring me my broadsword and clear understanding.
Bring me my cross of gold as a talisman.
Bless with a hard heart those who surround me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind. Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on for the motherland.
Or maybe this one
Kingsword - Heather Dale
The kingsword will stand
The kingsword will stand
The kingsword will stand in its scabbard of granite
The quicksilver forged in the pools of the sky
A rumor explained by the one who began it
A boy's hand will grasp it, a man's raise it high
Son of the dragon, of night and the slaughter
Whose wisdom his unshaven youth will belie
Will wake from her slumber the lake's only daughter
To answer the calling she cannot deny
The kingsword will stand in its scabbard of granite
The quicksilver forged in the pools of the sky
A rumor explained by the one who began it
A boy's hand will grasp it, a man's raise it high
Wrought by a queen for the hand of the chosen
From fish scales and currents and winter's reply
Brought from the deep by a prophet who knows
In the arms of the water again it will lie
The kingsword will stand in its scabbard of granite
The quicksilver forged in the pools of the sky
A rumor explained by the one who began it
A boy's hand will grasp it, a man's raise it high
The kingsword will stand
The kingsword will stand
The kingsword will stand
The kingsword will stand
The kingsword will stand in its scabbard of granite
The quicksilver forged in the pools of the sky
A rumor explained by the one who began it
A boy's hand will grasp it, a man's raise it high

Crashing Down - Heather Dale
You must be getting pretty tied
Of the man who once inspired you
Going back on what he asked you to believe
All the promises of power form his glittering ivory tower
Where's the height he once told you, you'd achieve
Those other men believe what you and I will never see
But I say why believe in place of proof
Let those other keep on praying
You know I'm only saying
What the other are afraid might be the truth
Well they say nothing grows until the oak has hit the ground
So let's clear the way my boys
And let the giant come crashing down
Where are all the things you fought for
All the dreams you shed your blood for
Are they shabby now and fraying at the seams
Was this your boyhood vision,
To endure the world's derision
While the culprit sits and laughs behind the scenes
Well they say nothing grows
Until the oak has hit the ground
So let's clear the way my boys
And let the giant come crashing down
um de le di
um de le di
um de le di
um de le di
Let us cleanse this farce with fire
Strike the fool who leads the liar
Let it all come crumbling down
Like the firebird from the ashes
We will rise to lead the masses
The strongest will emerge to wear the crown
Well they say nothing grows
Until the oak has hit the ground
So let's clear the way my boys
And let the giant come crashing down
Let's clear the way my boys
And let the giant come crashing down

what, if anything, does 'Sympathy for the Devil' do for Doug, if it doesn't summon Akio Ohtori?

just curious.... what happens the second time Doug plays a 'backfire' song? does it blow up in his face again? does it do nothing? does it turn him into a giant chicken?

Misplaced some time, some place, for some reason
Here I say goodbye to lukewarm everydays

While looking forward to a stronger fiercer heart
If the reason to keep running be not on this earth
Yes Let's fly even to the ends of the faraway galaxies

This song has two rather obvious possibilities, either as an attack song or a gate song. I leave it to Bob to decide which he'll use.- Aleh, who is currently working on a Ranma fic in which Kunou decides the only way to beat the 'Foul Sorcerer' is to learn his ways... and is currently running around wearing a black helmet and calling himself 'Darth Kunou'.

Songs of Limited And/Or Dubious Use
Posted by: Aleh - 12-22-2003, 12:18 PM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - Replies (16)

I decided to start this thread to dump a collection of songs that fit under this category: they actually might have a use, so they don't qualify as songs that Doug should never play, but are not useful enough for their own threads. Some, of course, may qualify as misfires; for most of them, I have suggested powers.
9 Coronas ('99) - John Mammoser (Doug can cast Power Word: Slosh, but also it also effects Doug for the duration)
Salt And Sugar - The Gomers (For the duration of the song, Doug can transmute salt to sugar and vice versa)
Rosie Don't Bang On The Piano - Cliff Ferr w/ The Cafe Society Quintet (Area of effect: Obliviousness to Sexual Activity)
Alien Love - George McClure (Creates an amorous, attractive
female of obviously alien origin)
What I Like About Booze - DisTurbo (Creates a 'virtual liquor store'; while the song is playing, Doug can purchace any kind of cheap booze, the alcoholic beverage(s) appearing in his hand(s) instantaneously and the money vanishing from his pocket or bank account as he wishes. Prices are standard for the region Doug is currently in)
The Real Dick Cheney - Tom Perri (Allows Doug to see through any disguises or illusions... as long as said disguises or illusions are of Dick Cheney).
- Aleh, who is currently working on a Ranma fic in which Kunou decides the only way to beat the 'Foul Sorcerer' is to learn his ways... and is currently running around wearing a black helmet and calling himself 'Darth Kunou'.

  Random thought and snickering...
Posted by: Feinan - 12-19-2003, 04:57 AM - Forum: Drunkard's Walk V: Another Divine Mess You've Gotten Me Into - Replies (9)

I was at work today and for some reason I got to thinking of the O!MB step. It was all I could do not to snicker aloud when I realized that Doug is probably going to have a very interesting reaction to Chris' whole situation....given his general attitudes to gods up to then.
Doug: You made a wish...by mistake...and got turned into a GOD?!?
Heh. Or something to that effect. Somehow, I think a world where humans can become deities by slips of the tongue would be...worrisome?...to him.

Zombie Jamborie (Streetnix version)

It was a Zombie Jamboree
Right there in the New York cemetery
It was a Zombie Jamboree
Right there in the New York cemetery
Zombies from all parts of the island
Some of them were great Calypsonians
Since the season was Carnivale (season)
They got together in Bacchanal
Huh!
And they were singing
Back to back
Belly to belly
Well, I don't give a damn
'Cause I'm stone dead already
Back to back
Belly to belly
It's a Zombie Jamboree
One female zombie
She won't behave!
See how she's dancing out of the grave
In one hand she's holding a quart of rum
In other hand she's knocking a conga drum
And now the lead singer starts to make his rhyme
While the other zombies are rockin' in time
One bystander, he had this to say
"It was a trip to see the zombies break away!"
And they were singing
Back to back
Belly to belly
Well, I don't give a damn
'Cause I'm stone dead already
Back to back
Belly to belly
It's a Zombie Jamboree
And they were singing
Back to back
Belly to belly
Well, I don't give a damn
'Cause I'm stone dead already
Back to back
Belly to belly
It's a Zombie Jamboree
Back to back
Everyone, we sing!
Back to back
And belly to belly
Then back to back
A-One Two Three Four!
Hey hey hey hey hey
What a Zombie Jamboree
From Times Square to the Statue of Liberty
Uptown, Downtown, Zombie Jamboree
Oo woh oo woh woh yeah yeah
There's a high wire zombie between the World Trades
A King Kong zombie on the Empire State
But the biggest zombies Tokyo to Rome
The zombies who call this city home!
Hah! What they do! Huh!
Back to back
Belly to belly
Well, I don't give a damn
'Cause I'm stone dead already
Back to back
Belly to belly
It's a Zombie Jamboree
And they were singing
Back to back
Belly to belly
Well, I don't give a damn
'Cause I'm stone dead already
Back to back
Belly to belly
It's a Zombie Jamboree
We do the Limbo!
Back to back
Belly to belly
Well, I don't give a damn
'Cause I'm stone dead already
Back to back
Belly to belly
It's a Zombie Jamboree
Hey hey hey hey!

While I don't exactly like the translation, you should be able to get the gist of it.- Aleh, who is currently working on a Ranma fic in which Kunou decides the only way to beat the 'Foul Sorcerer' is to learn his ways... and is currently running around wearing a black helmet and calling himself 'Darth Kunou'.

  Step suggestions
Posted by: jonathanlennox - 12-17-2003, 01:54 AM - Forum: Future Steps - Replies (9)

It occured to me that Xena, Warrior Princess might make for an interesting DW step. Plenty of gods running around, to give Doug headaches, not to mention the twisted version of ancient history. (I don't know if this has been mentioned before; I feel like it has been, but EZBoard's "Search" function didn't turn it up.)
On another note, the George R. R. Martin spam message of a few days ago got me thinking about whether GRRM's various books could make good DW steps. Song of Ice and Fire (his current series, a tie-in to which the spam was advertising) wouldn't be a good choice -- not only is it ongoing, but also the tone is pretty wrong. (It's simultaneously too epic and too gritty for Doug to fit in well.) However, some of his older works might work, though they'd be fairly off-beat as steps go. The Armageddon Rag has some cool music-related stuff, which might interact oddly with Doug's powers; Fevre Dream would give a chance to do Doug on the 19-century Mississippi River with an interesting take on vampires. Tuf Voyaging might be the oddest mix, but perhaps actually the most workable story-wise, since it's a collection of short stories.
Thoughts on either of these?
