Identifying Hexe |

I can't remember who, and the search function is clearly broken and won't let me find out, but someone here suggested that Hexe might be Athena. Helen laughed at that when she saw it, but I was a little puzzled, as I wasn't sure why Athena was a logical choice. Well, I am puzzled no more. I have just read what is I think the second Saint Seiya fic I've ever seen, and the first one which explains what the hell is going on in the series. No, Hexe is not Pallas Athene and the Warriors are not her knights. Hexe is team leader not because she's a goddess, but because we voted her there -- Dwimanor was team leader for a while, as was Major Kanis, whom you've not yet seen mentioned in the story. Hexe's just been team leader longer than any one else (although in bits and pieces as she keeps getting voted out and then voted back in).

It's in the hands of the editor, who's currently working it over. I've been contacted a couple of times about minor details which sort of imply that we're at the start of the final edit process.
That's all for now.

Songs from DW1 |

I forgot to add the following to the "spell song book" I posted in the thread of the same name; these are technically "in continuity", although for reasons that most folks here already know, they'll never actually be seen in use.
Note that these are just the songs in my outline; other songs might have been included in the story as things developed, but we'll never know now. (Then again, I may well throw out a song in a future installment and cite it as something Doug first used in Valdemar...)
Note that what I'm giving here is the specific effect allocated in my plot outline; most songs will probably get far more general descriptions if I need them.
We Built This City, Starship. Permanently transforms wooden palisade walls into worked stone.
Bad for Good, Jim Steinman. Ill-specified travel song; I'd probably have replaced this with something more suitable.
Sowing the Seeds of Love, Tears For Fears. Restores fields and crops destroyed by a battle.
Radar Love, Golden Earring. Locates a girl or woman Doug is fond of, and flies him to her at supersonic speeds. (He doesn't know his destination, and is "dragged" along by the song.)
Burning Down The House, Talking Heads. Another generic "fire powers" song.
Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young, Fire, Inc. (from Streets of Fire soundtrack). Gives an extensive illusory "tour" of places on Earth that are important to Doug.
Your Wildest Dreams, Moody Blues. Was going to be used as a cross-dimensional communication in an epilogue, but to tell you the truth, subsequent plans have eliminated the likelihood that this would be needed.

Given the traffic I've inadvertantly caused with DW-EVA threads, and the fact that it seems to be rather active in my writer's imagination at the moment, I've been considering spinning it off into its own forum a bit earlier than I'd intended. Thoughts, comments, objections?

(After Doug listens to the recordings made during the big fight in chapter 12...)
Well, now I knew their names. Celia. Linna. (Or maybe "Lynne",spelled English and pronounced Japanese.) Pris. (I knew a Pris, once, an android. She was a sweet kid, before that arms smugglerkilled her.) And the last one. I wasn't sure how to spell it,in either kana or Roman letters -- Naynay? Neinei? Somethinglike that. Probably a nickname of some sort -- maybe she alwaysvoted "no" at their meetings. Or maybe she liked horses --Neigh-Neigh?Nah. That was too strange, even for me.It was the most distinctive of the four names. If I could havejust settled on a spelling, I might have tried a search for herin the online telecomm directory for MegaTokyo. Just in case itwasn't a nickname. But that seemed far too unlikely.

This is apropos of nothing except the "song spellbook" thread; I've gotten a couple of emails asking just what this song is, since I listed it in Doug's repertoire. It's an oldie from the sixties, and it seems custom-made for his use. Think driving beat, old rock organ, and a really psychotic vocalist.

(bellowed)
I am the god of hellfire and I bring you:
(sung)
Fire, I'll take you to burn.
Fire, I'll take you to learn.
I'll see you burn!
You fought hard and you saved and learned,
but all of it's going to burn.
And your mind, your tiny mind,
you know you've really been so blind.
Now's your time burn your mind.
You're falling far too far behind.
Oh no, oh no, oh no, you gonna burn!
Fire, to destroy all you've done.
Fire, to end all you've become.
I'll feel you burn!
You've been living like a little girl,
in the middle of your little world.
And your mind, your tiny mind,
you know you've really been so blind.
Now's your time burn your mind.

I'm trying to see if anyone can help me identify the song that is played on the 1-800-flowers commercial. It's one that used to be popular around '64 or '65. The best I can do (since I can't hum on the forum) is to print some of the lyrics: "My love and I will be in love eternally, and that's the way; that's the way it's meant to be." I tried calling the company, but the people who answer the phone don't know the name of the song used for their commercial.

Well since my first guess went so well why not another. I see this song as stopping momentarily a fight between two sides, for example two mobs of people. Anyways here it is.
Enough Is Enough (4:36) - Chumbawamba
(Chorus)
Open your eyes, time to wake up
Enough is enough is enough is enough
Open your eyes, time to wake up
Enough is enough is enough is enough
Enough is enough is enough
Give the fascist man a gunshot
Enough is enough is enough
Give the fascist man a gunshot
Enough is enough is enough
Give the fascist man a gunshot
Trying and trying again to get this damn thing done
It can't done
Come shoot the fascist with a gun
'Cause it's stopping us from unity
We cannot see reality
Just vanity insanity Fusion cannot stand it see
No man fascist man will ever get me outta the land
So understand Fusion plan to stop them with a bang
We sang and sang to make the people all unite
Not fight but fight because the leaders don't think right
You burnt us in the past you know it won't happen again
So black and white take a stand and all try to defend
All of the people and the children who are living in the past
Just blast and blast don't make the fascist man last
(Repeat chorus)
On and on and on you know the feeling's so strong
So long
It's wrong
I'm telling you it's wrong
Destruction confusion and blaming it on the color
I wonder in horror 'cause the people start to follow
All the leaders and the rulers who are putting up the fence
It's dense immense and you say you're talking sense
Bull, bull I want to say it full
But people on the radio you know will make a pull
So I try to tone it down to make the whole world know
That the language of my violence will proceed in my show
Flow, flow to make the fascist man know
that unity is here and unity will grow
(Repeat chorus)
I want to wake up, I want to wake up
I want to wake up, I want to wake up
Open your eyes, time to wake up
Enough is enough is enough is enough
(Repeat)

Right, first up GiTS:SAC's ED, 'Lithium Flower'
She's so cold and human
It's something humans do
She stays so golden solo
She's so number nine
She's incredible math
Just incredible math
And is she really human?
She's just so something new
A waking lithium flower
Just about to bloom
I smell lithium now
Smelling lithium now
How is she when she doesn't surf?
How is she when she doesn't surf?
How is she when she doesn't surf?
I wonder what she does when she wakes up?
When she wakes up
So matador
So calm
So oil on a fire
She's so good
She's so goddess lithium flower
So sonic wave
Yeah, she's so groove, yeah
She's so groove
Yeah
Wow, where did she learn how to surf?
Wow, where did she learn how to surf?
Wow, where did she learn how to surf?
You know I've never seen the girl wipe out
How does she so perfectly surf?
How does she so perfectly surf?
How does she so perfectly surf?
I wonder what she does when she wakes up?
I wanna go surfing with her
I wanna go surfing with her
I wanna go surfing with her
I wanna go surfing with her

For this I'm picturing a simulacra of The Major or similar if Doug hasn't come across/knows her.

Area-7 - 'Individuality'
They always said that you would never be anything.
Everything you tried to do was just a waste of time.
But you believed you could do anything you wanted to.
You made your mind up and you never looked behind.
Don't let them try to tell you how live your life.
Don't let them hold you back, don't ever change your mind.
Individuality - Be proud of what you are
Individuality - Don't let them cut you down
You can be whatever you want to be,
But don't change yourself for society.
Don't lose your Individuality.
The years go by, you find that nothing comes easily.
And the world is full of people tryin' take you down.
Don't ever turn your back on anything you've ever been.
You don't need to prove yourself to anybody else.
There's no room for second best, no second chance, don't fail the test,
Gotta rise above the rest, gotta try to make your mark.
You don't need to be so vain, no need to act so proud,
Follow the trends, don't ever stand out from the crowd.
Do you really care what other people think about you?
Does it really matter what they do or what they say?
You've fought too hard to let them throw it all back in your face.
When their opinion never mattered anyway.

Something to do with clones/'The Borg' perhaps?
-*-*-
Def Leppard - 'Rocket' :- It's either gonna call up a member of the rocket family (Vindicator anybody?) or is 'We Didn't Start The Fire'-lite.
The Androids - 'Do It With Madonna' :- self-explanatory if it triggers Doug's meta-gift (which I hope it doesn't) but if it doesn't exist on WW-world might be a fun one to pick up on the Walk and present to her when he gets back. In itself the videoclip is good, for it is a cack.

But still cool songs, IMHO.
Regular Joes - Pain in This World
Well, I'm a child of the sixties, or so I'm told
Well, I must admit somethin': I don't feel that old
It's a damn sad thing, I got to tell you, girl
I'm gettin' a little bit tired of all the pain in this world
Well, I try not to pay attention to
All the evil little things that people do
It's just a little defense mechanism, girl
I'm gettin' a little bit tired of all the pain in this world
[short bridge]
Well, I had a good childhood, hey, maybe not
Smartass bookworm, skinny little snot
Like dust to diamonds and swine to pearls
I'm gettin' a little bit tired of all the pain in this world
Now you take out the trash and you go to work
You try to feel nothing; you don't need that hurt
It's just too much baggage to carry with us, girl
We get a little bit tired of all the pain in this world
[short bridge]
Well, I'm a child of the sixties, or so I'm told
Well, I must admit somethin': I don't feel that old
It's a damn sad thing, I got to tell you, girl
I'm gettin' a little bit tired of all the pain in this world
I'm gettin' a little bit tired of all the pain in this world
I'm gettin' a little bit tired of all the pain in this world
Runrig - Tir an Airm
An teid thu leam a ribhinn og
Gu tir mo gridh sitheil sona
'S chi thu saighdearan a' ruith
Am measg nan lusan bagh 'sa mhonadh
Come along with me, my young girl
To the peaceful, happy land
And you will see soldiers running around
Amongst the beautiful wild machair flowers
Ho ro horain O
Failte gu tir an airm
Ho ro horain O
Ho ro horain O
Welcome to the Land of the Army
Ho ro horain O
A' Coimhead a mach air maduinn chiuin
Air ball mor cruinn os cionn na beinne
'S bhon is ciuin na tonnan gorm
Tha ceol ru aig ceol na mara
Looking out on a peaceful morning
On the great round ball above the mountain
And though the waves are calm
There's a new music in the music of the sea
Ho ro horain O
Failte gu tir an airm
Ho ro horain O
Ho ro horain O
Welcome to the Land of the Army
Ho ro horain O
'S an deid thu leam gu tir mo ghraidh
Seall na h-eoin Dhorchas Dhona
Treabhadh speuran as ar cionn
Deanamh air Steornabhagh le cabhaig
And will you go with me to the land I love
To see the dark evil birds
Ploughing the skies above us
Making for Stornoway at high speed
Ho ro horain O
Failte gu tir an airm
Ho ro horain O
Ho ro horain O
Welcome to the Land of the Army
Ho ro horain O
[bridge]
Nis leugh t-eachdraich, fosgail suil
Anns gach linn mu dhoigh an Airnm
Stampadh air na croitean seagail
'S beathannan og aig gillean Uibhist
Now read your history, open your eyes
To every generation and to the ways of the military
Stamping on the rye in the crofts
And the young lives of the Uist boys
Ho ro horain O
Failte gu tir an airm
Ho ro horain O
Ho ro horain O
Welcome to the Land of the Army
Ho ro horain O
Cha deid mise gu an righ
Cha deid mise an corr a shabaid
O lunnain mheallt, a Bhreatuinn fhoilleil
Cha seas mi ach 'son sith nan eilean
But I cannot go "for the King"
I cannot fight anymore
The deceit of London, the treachery of Britain
I'll only support peace in the islands
Ho ro horain O
Failte gu tir an airm
Ho ro horain O
Ho ro horain O
Welcome to the Land of the Army
Ho ro horain O
Regular Joes - For the Love of the Song
one two three four
I lay my sprit on the stage
Release my tension in a nervous rage
St. John be good and turn the page
'Scuse me while I act my age
Well hey now jet don't get me wrong
just do it for the love of the song
i sing my heart out every day
just to keep the midnight tears away
some say work and some say play
hear we rock and here we'll stay
i keep on singin' when the band is gone
just do it for the love of the song
[short bridge]
now you're listenin' to me here
rock and roll band a shift in gear
don't care about nothin' that much is clear
had the same dang blues for fifty years
hey there willy ain't really along
just do it for the love of the song
[short bridge]
I lay my sprit on the stage
Release my tension in a nervous rage
St. John be good and turn the page
'Scuse me while I act my age
Well hey now jet don't get me wrong
just do it for the love of the song
Blessed be.
