[RFC] Being You is... Redux? (Warning: Spoilers for Tenchi Muyo OVA 4!!!)
Posted by: Black Aeronaut - 03-10-2017, 11:18 AM - Forum: Hangar 13 - Replies (9)

Alright, so for those of you not in the know, the first two episodes of the new OVA for Tenchi Muyo have been released in Japan and have already been fansubbed.
And we're seeing some VERY interesting things.

Really, so far there's been a lot of exposition, but it's perfect - it's all tying up everything we've been seeing in Kajishima-sensei's doujins and light-novels, as well as everything from GXP, and culminating in the wedding of Noboyuki and Reia.

One thing is for sure... Garrick's little throw down with Minaho is gonna become a lot more epic!  And as always, while he may not be as well trained... his bag of dirty tricks will keep her off-balance.

Anyhow, what this ultimately means...  Just as I predicted before (here) I'm going to have to rewrite Bring You Is Suffering.  The biggest changes are going to be Minaho, as well as some of the rest of the Family Politics stuff.  Information in other places is also going to be updated with correct info.

However, all the core stuff is gonna stay the same.  It'll just all be a lot less awkward seeming now.  :p

So, advice?  Things you guys think I could do better this go around?

  Vathara story discussion
Posted by: Matrix Dragon - 03-10-2017, 06:31 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (10)

I think that part of the reason that this story bugs me is the choice to make Jack the Needs-Exposition Character at the beginning. He's the second in command of Stargate Command, leader of its number one off-world team. Before his sons death, he was a black ops soldier for at least most of the eighties, a field that requires serious smarts to survive. He's been a major player in operations against the rogue NID elements since the beginning. For him to know nothing about the hospital and the SAO players? It doesn't make sense, and it makes him look incompetent. Which isn't an uncommon thing for Vathara and Jack, sadly.

On another much more flattering and amusing note, I do have to laugh at the demonstration of how crossovers can often fix up plot hole problems. The moment you hear the NID and Ancient tech was involved in SAO, every single bit of bullshit about the Nervegears makes perfect sense. Of course it works in ways that should be implausible, it's Ancient tech. Of course something seemingly innocent is actually stupidly dangerous, it's Ancient Tech! (Seriously, those guys probably blew up a solar system trying to make a better lightbulb.) And of course Kayaba was able to sneak his murder tech into the general public, it's the NID, who probably hire Cerberus for contract work Smile

Doug sits down with Luna between episodes 2 and 3 and asks her questions I don't think anyone in a Sailor Moon fanfic has ever asked before.

Not and gotten answers, at least.

Asylum seeker might be missing in a snowstorm
Posted by: robkelk - 03-08-2017, 08:33 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (3)

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/ ... -1.4014953]Yet another story about asylum seekers crossing the border illegally to get out of the USA.

This time, border officials found 18 people - including a pregnant woman, some children, and a man with a broken arm - who were crossing during a snowstorm. "Visibility is poor in the town, with blustery winds of up to 88 km/h and blowing snow. Highway 75 remains closed, leaving people stranded in the small border town [Emerson, Manitoba], unable to drive north to Winnipeg." They're worried that there's still somebody out there who was separated from the group.

Here's hoping that either nobody's missing or whoever is missing will be found alive.

The Biggest problem with the Amercian Healthcare Act
Posted by: ordnance11 - 03-08-2017, 04:20 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (14)

Backlash grows against proposed bill
The biggest problem IMO is this:
"Furthermore, at least one of the country’s biggest health-care groups weighed in with caution on the proposal. The American Hospital Association, representing 5,000 hospitals and other health-care groups, argued that the process should not advance until the CBO provides a cost estimate."

The GOP leadership is determined to pass this thing by Easter. They are taking a huge risk in rushing it through with knowing what the downside is. Also the Federal budget needs to be passed by mid-April. the Democrats are not going to help GOP on this and the far right is balking on the bill as it is.  So I have my doubts if it will be passed this year. And if it does gets passed, the GOP owns this. We won't know the results until next election, but based on what I've been reading it won't be pretty for low income folks.

Why these Canadian musicians won't just 'shut up and sing'

We don't get to vote for the POTUS, despite the power he or she has over our lives - this is the only way we can be heard.

And some people get upset about that.

Go figure.

A news tidbit sent to me by the Association of the United States Army today:

Quote:Since late December, U.S. and coalition troops in Iraq have been moving deeper into Mosul, working side-by-side with Iraqi forces in efforts to reclaim the city. U.S. Army rockets and missiles have played a major role in advances, with two U.S. platoons armed with light multiple rocket launchers earning a new nickname for their fire power: Task Force Thor.

The Trump's Administration War on Ethics
Posted by: ordnance11 - 03-06-2017, 02:21 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (4)

What this means is that one set of rules..really none for the White House and another set for the rest of the government.
This White House is laying the groundwork for all sorts of payola. I suspect the reason is that they want to make hay before they're booted out.
Say what you will about Obama, there had never been a personal scandal during this administration. This administration flouting of the ethic rules is going to prove a disaster for this administration. Once it gets out that his staff has been accepting "gifts" for certain actions.

Edit: This is the link which disappeared White house counsel response to Kellyanne shout out to buy Ivanka Trump
Relevant passage:

Quote:The administration's assertion was made in a letter that White House Deputy Counsel Stefan Passantino wrote regarding the controversy over White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway's recent ethical issues.
Passantino's letter said that "many regulations promulgated by the Office of Government Ethics ("OGE") do not apply to employees of the Executive Office of the President
The President sets the moral tone of the administration, whether he likes it or not. As a OSHA inspector, one of the reasons I do not allow the employers I inspect to even give me "gifts" of nominal value is that the agency will come down on me like a ton of bricks if even the "appearance" of bribery or collusion is ever hinted. Trump is sending the wrong message to law enforcement agencies. One good reason why I did not vote for him.

Remember the on-again, off-again news about a live-action Battle Angel Alita movie?

Alita: Battle Angel is on again in the best way: http://www.kvue.com/features/entertainm ... /395099868]a casting call for extras.

As I understand it, Hollywood only casts extras while the movie is actually being made.

Cue a "squeee" of delight from Evil Midnight Lurker (and, no doubt, others) in three... two... one...
