This is an excuse/explanation for a technical design that's been wandering around my head for a while now. It has no real context or point, I just found myself typing rather than jobhunting.
"So what am I looking at?"
"These are the images captured by the Gorget of that new Galaxy variant that hit the Gideri III picket. Our own people have gone over them extensively, but we wanted an unbiased expert to check our findings."
"Hmmm... All right, give me a few hours."
*hours later*
"Overall, this new model of yours is an impressive piece of work. I'd estimate a three or four-fold improvement in combat power over the older design, while still using less than ten percent 'new design' components."
"That's a higher degree of commonality than our own initial analyses had gotten."
"Hmm, it doesn't look it, does it? But here, see, the spacing of the new primary hull phaser arrays from the basic model? The underlying structural members are laid out concentrically and further components built onto them, of course, and both sets of new arrays are at precisely the same relation to the nearest beams as the original was to its own nearest.
"The secondary hull, what we've seen of it - notice how the new forward half is vertically symmetrical as well as laterally? I'd bet you dinner it's no more than a lightly altered mirroring. The lengthwise stretching is almost exactly fifty percent - I think that they inserted 'straight' sections into the skeleton after every two of the original curved ones. And, again, the new phaser arrays line up with the inner structure in the same way as the old ones.
"The powerplant, though we can only guess at the actual configuration, is running close to exactly four times what we have for their 'new model's' output - I think that they've found a way to synchronize the powerplants and then duplicated them for this class. It'd require internal reworking, but they'd have to tear down that hull almost completely anyway in order to do what we can see they've done.
"The nacelles - they look like a completely new design, don't they? But look at the efficiency figures, here. That wobble in the power curve? I think it's a temperature difference between coils. Rather than having each coil perfectly tuned for its place in sequence, they're running matched pairs, one a little cold and one a little hot, and adapted their new model cruiser housings to fit around them. They lose a little reserve and some operating time doing it that way, but for practical purposes they pick up more by having four of the things rather than two. The mounting pylons aren't new components either - from ahead, that curve matches up with - here. They just ran more of the structure beams and assembled them differently.
"The sensors, the torpedo launchers - essentially just remountings of their known top-line systems, though from putting the turrets there, port and starboard dorsal and ventral superstructure, we know that they've moved the computer cores.
"The deflector system is a new model, though, to leave room for the new torpedo launchers outboard of it, and I doubt they'll use it anywhere else. Their 'new design' battleships are too small for it. The roll bar pod is new, though I expect them to get more use out of it. The defensive screens aren't - new, I mean - but there are certainly a lot of them.
"Overall, I'd say that the speed increase would 'only' let it keep up with a Sovereign, and maneuver speed might actually be down, depending on the exact specs of the new RCS system - but I make it at least three times the beam firepower and eleven torpedo turrets rather than two linear launchers, along with what I'd eyeball at a fourfold improvment in defense. Not a brilliant or elegant design, but a well-thought out and very formidable one."

"Yes, and it was glorious."

Quote:When we created Mission Architect, the goal was to have an outlet for players to craft cool stories, using our assets, that other players could play and participate in. Other players could rate those stories and the best-of-the best would rise to the top.
While we have accomplished some of those goals with the initial launch of Mission Architect, some have found ways to abuse the system we put in place. We are not blind to this happening, nor did we not expect it. However, it is time to take action regarding it, so please be aware that we are about to implement a zero-tolerance stance on the extreme abuse we are seeing in the system.
One thing was made clear to me when I interacted with the players on our Anniversary. It was that you guys really don’t like the powerlevelling that is going on with MA. The constant spam of MA PL teams forming, requests for “Meow” missions, 5 star badge cartels, and the inability to find quality content in the Mission Architect listing are all things I heard complaints about over and over while I was logged in on Tuesday.
So here is a list of things that are going to happen:
• Players that have abused the reward system egregiously may lose benefits they have gained - leading up to and perhaps including losing access to the characters power-leveled in this fashion.
• Currently, some badges are being modified, and some may be removed from the game entirely. The list of changes being made to the MA badge system is not final yet, but you will be made aware when we have a concrete plan.
• Players who knowingly use an exploit when creating an arc, run the risk of having access to MA suspended, or worse- depending on the severity of the action, their account banned.
• Players who have a story arc banned for any reason, will have it continue to use up one of their publishing slots. Players will NOT be able to unpublish this slot without Customer Service’s help. This sets up a “three strikes and you’re out” policy. If an individual gets three story arcs banned, they will no longer be able to publish since their slots will all be used up with banned arcs.
•• This lock will not take place on the first level of “complaint banning”, where an arc has received a larger number of complaints. Players will still have a chance to fix the arc.
•• If Customer Service looks at an arc and determines it was banned in error, they will mark it as “unbannable”. At that point the arc can not be banned for any reason. The unbannable flag will reset if the player makes any changes to the arc at that point, and the arc can be banned again.
•• Remember, publishing slots are account wide, so players will not be able to log in another character on their account and use their slots instead.
•• Players are urged to avoid using common farming terms in their story title and/or descriptions. Even if it’s a joke, DO NOT run the risk of having an arc banned and requiring Customer Support to grant you your publishing slot back.
Some of you have taken the stance of “how does powerlevelling hurt the game?” and “shouldn’t I be able to play the game the way that I want?” What we want to make clear is in order to keep the game fair, balanced, and challenging, we have to maintain a risk:reward ratio. This is a ratio we’ve spent years attempting to achieve. Mission Architect is not immune to this, and we are taking swift action to see that the problems players are seeing and are being exposed to are remedied.
EDIT: I was simply going to draw attention to this without commentary, but it bears mentioning - there are, naturally, a lot of folks upset regarding the threat of possible character removal (or at least character lock) - it's not clear whether this will apply going forward to folks who PL via MA exploits, or whether it'll also apply retroactively.
Personally, I doubt they'd smack everyone who just got a handful of levels from this. Indeed, I doubt they'd make it retroactive either; too much risk of pissing people off.
But, y'know, right now...you can see the supernova flames on the forums (and in Atlas Park) from orbit.

Can anyone help me with a bit of Latin? I want to change the subject of the famous old line Nos morituri te salutamus from "we who are about to
die" to "We who are dead". Can anyone do that for me, or point me to a website that can?
Thanks!

I ducked in a couple nights ago to play my Negima ripoff character Negi-kun (and get him an outfit with the new magic cloak that looks like his early Mundus
Magica arc costume), and I noticed that aside from one other character, I was the first LL player on in weeks or months. And the base is locked for failure to
pay rent. Is the Little Legendary dead? Should I move Negi-kun and Luna Toons over to Virtue?
