Eh, if the game itself is fun to play, the plot can be as cliche or incoherent as the designers want, as far as I'm concerned. The popularity of KH and Final Fantasy series games in general tells me that sentiment is common enough in the CRPG gaming community. Pity it didn't kick in for Xenosaga, but to be fair Xenosaga I's gameplay was kind of weird even if I personally found it fun, and II's was even more unusual and could be actively annoying if you didn't grok the defense-breaking mechanic or get hooked on the characters by the first game to carry you past it.

Back to the thread topic, though, how about crossing Wankire: the Pretense grade supernatural shenanigans with spy thrillers?

* The Wyld Hunt for Red October
* Rainbow 666
* No Time for Undeath
* Daywalker of the Cheetah
* The Camarillas' President

I'm sure many more horrid examples could be Cool dug up.

Especially if I had read anything from either genre more recently than the turn of the century...

Hrm....

You Only Die Twice
On Her Majesty's Occult Service
The Man With The Golden Stake
The Spy who Embraced Me
The Unliving Daylights

Enh, I could go on, but....

Most if not all of those could be adventures of Hamish Bond, the licensed-to-diablerize, no-celebrities-were-turned version of 007 from Kim Newman's Anno Dracula series.
Well, "On Her Majesty's Occult Service" was, IIRC, an actual published book, a compilation of the first couple of Charles Stross "Laundry" novels and some associated short stories....

Or continuations of Nick Pollota's Bureau 13 series, which featured many of the same tropes, only turned up to Ridiculous.
Five young British singers transform America’s extraterrestrial military from sham to glam in Spice Force.
I don't know how I managed to misread "Downton Abbey" as "Damnation Alley", but... that's a definite Should Not Be.
“Just the place for a Smurf! I have said it twice:
That alone should encourage the crew.
Just the place for a Smurf! I have said it thrice:
What I tell you three times is true.”

That frequently happens in tropical climes,
When a vessel is, so to speak, “smurfed.”
Remus Lupin III
Nah, Remus is too young to be the third, though he's also pretty old to be the fourth. Shuffling the timelines a little to let them align so the winds of fate blow his father back into his life would make for an interesting marauders-era AU though... or I suppose the third's crew could have gotten entangled with a time mcguffin like movieverse Lara Croft and only escaped in Harry's time.
The Night is Dark and full of Terrors.

8/10 would watch.  Though for some reason, I feel like Dai-Guard would be more fun for mythbusting with its interchangeable arms and its constantly breaking down.
"Today we're going to test the myth that Rocket Punch is Best Punch. Unfortunately our robot's forearm doesn't actually include a rocket engine, or designed to detach for that matter, but I'm sure we can work something out."

Yes, Dai-Guard is definitely Mythbusters material Big Grin

(For the unfamiliar, in one of the early-ish episodes, the Hot Blooded Protagonist rips Dai-Guard's own arm off to throw it at the enemy due to that tragically deficient design flaw.)
In order to play, they need a third person.

Dwayne Johnson and Yomiko Readman go in search of somebody - anybody - nicknamed "The Scissors"...

Edward Scissorhands?
Well, then they'll need Curtis Connors and Leonard Nimoy to complete the set....
Okay, I've been editing pages on All The Tropes for too much of today -- this seems like a good idea to me. A good idea for what, I'm not sure...

President Donald Trump and Vice-President Dan Quayle.
Well, it's a better idea than Mike Pence, any road. If nothing else, he'd be more appreciated by his boss the Twitter-Twit, having invented the internet.

That was Al Gore. Quayle was VIPER Leader (an old joke in my college gaming group).
