  XP Smoothing and Real Numbers
Posted by: Sofaspud - 03-05-2008, 10:01 PM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (10)

(At first, when I saw the post about "XP Smoothing" on the CoH website, I thought it was something to do with making the game run better on Windows.
Doh.)

So, anyway, has anyone noticed any difference in CoH due to the smoothing? I haven't had time to play in the past couple weeks... I'm hoping it'll
help me get past the hump I seem to be stuck at, but who knows.

And then the Real Numbers. Anyone used this? Is it handy? I've always liked the abstraction that CoH had -- Low, High, Very High, etc -- but I admit the
numbers geek in me finds the concept of true data compelling. At the same time, I can't help but feel that this is what I came to CoH to get away from --
the number-crunching munchkin. I know it's only been a couple weeks, but has anyone noticed Real Numbers making a difference?

Recently, I was reminded of an old canadian TV show that I used to enjoy called 'Prisoners of Gravity'. It was a half hour program that "explored
speculative fiction -science fiction, fantasy, horror, comic books - and its relation to various thematic and social issues."

here's the wikipedia page for a better description. [Image: tongue.gif]

Youtube actually has 3 or 4 eps posted (broken into thirds), here's part 1 of an episode talking about Fans (seemed appropriate [Image: happy.gif])

The intro sequence (which starts around the 1:15 mark) also fits Fenspace as it involves the host flying his car into space.

This is being reported on his Wikipedia article, but I haven't seen any verification.

GURPS Robin Hood is on sale this week
Posted by: robkelk - 03-04-2008, 04:35 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

In honour of GM's Day (which, apparently, is today), a score of GURPS PDFs are on sale at http://e23.sjgames.com/]e23.sjgames.com. One of them is Bob and Peggy's somewhat-experimental sourcebook about bands of merrie men. See the March 4 entry under "What's New" for details.

(Oh, yes... Bob and Peggy, you still don't have author's blurbs on e23...)

  R.I.P. Janet Kagan
Posted by: Feinan - 03-04-2008, 06:25 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (2)

Janet Kagan passed away on Saturday. She was the Hugo-winning author of Uhuru's Song, Hellspark and Mirabile. She was also a wonderful lady that I had the privilege of meeting
many years ago at one of the early Contexts here in Columbus, and I'll miss her a lot. I'd always hoped I'd get to read more works by her. If you
ever have the chance to pick up her stuff, do so. It's great. For the Fenspace folk...she's the one responsible for the Jason's professional name -
from the Mirabile stories.

*raises a toast* To Janet Kagan, extraordinary writer, and to Tailkinker to-Ennien, Tocohl Susumo, and Annie Jason Masmajean, three wonderful heroines about
whom I wish we could've read more. Sail with the 'Sparks, Janet.

Rock, jazz, and blues musician (dare I say "great"?) Jeff Healey http://www.cbc.ca/arts/music/story/2008 ... butes.html]passed away Sunday, from cancer.

Two months before his latest - now last - album is due out, too...
